Bought One....and Then Another

I have a collection of shavers but on impulse bought an HQ40 on discount for £9.99. It was impressive and the first Philishave I had used in decades, but I simply wanted a change from foil and the cost of replacing it whenever it perforated.

I liked the HQ40 and so bought this HQ6695 which i use quite frequently alternating with foil shavers. It cuts well and leaves a smooth finish and runs slower than the foil cutters. I am well-pleased. I had been tempted to experiment with the Remington Rotary but read the reviews here first and steered well away.

All in all, much lighter than I remember shavers - but that is smaller motors and transformers, but it does cut well and leave a smooth finish so I am well-pleased

Great razor, a little bulky

I had previously owned a Remington razor which felt, as someone else described, like scraping sandpaper across my skin. I was expecting this to be pretty much the same. I couldn't be more wrong.

This gives about the smoothest shave - including wet shaves - I have ever had. The coverage is excellent, unlike some of the other reviews and it is easy to clean.

I thought at first that the design was a little bulky, but you quickly get used to it. The comfort control is a nice touch, but probably little more than a gimmick. I suspect the vast majority of people will find one setting and stick with it. The digital read out of charge remaining is very useful, but only time will tell how accurate it is.

I was expecting the power adapter to be a two-pin so wasn't surprised at that at all. I was surprised at how bulky it was, though, as other razors I have had haven't had anything near as big on the end of the wire.

I was also slightly surprised it didn't come with some kind of carry case. The design is sleek and polished and I don't want it to be knocked around in my various travel bags. I'll have to fashion something out of an old sock, I guess.

Overall, this is the best electric razor I've owned. It is smooth and comfortable to use, seems to hold a good charge and re-charges quickly. Drawbacks are cosmetic at best and relate to the size of the power adapter.

I'd recommend you go by this, especially at this price.

Excellent Cheap Shaver

I brought this to replace a failed Philishave shaver as the price was cheaper than a repair. I must say I wasn't disappointed! I have been wet shaving for a few weeks and on my first use it was so much better than my old one! After preparing my skin using a pre shave powder stick from another e-tailer I had a close shave with absolutely no irritation including around the neck which always used to be an issue. A top buy highly recommended!!

A bit unauthodox but.....

What a suprise to see this odd item while browsing for an mp3 player, but a welcome one at that.
As any guy will tell you Razor blades are expensive and decent ones like Gillette Mach 3 blades are especially expensive but when you consider you can pay £5-6 for 4 blades and Amazon offer you 8 for £8.47 your making a saving.
So next time your browsing for that CD or DVD remeber that you can pick up those razor blades to and not pay postage and packing. It just gives that little advantage to ordering a DVD or CD knowing you can pick up your razors to at a lower price, cheers amazon a real nifty idea.

VERYGOOD

bought this for hubbys birthday put it on charge and when he first started using it it was so quiet he thought it was going to be rubbish but couldnt believe how good a shave it gave other shavers he has used to sound like there going to take off but this is so quiet and gave an excellent shave,real value for money if you want a fab shaver at low price

Reasonable shave

Thought I better post my comments as I used amazon reviews to decide if I would keep this Christmas present.

My rating is a 4. Had not used an electric shaver since my dads 20 year old face ripper many years ago but was getting bored wet shaving so decided a change was due.

Posatives. Quick charge still going after a month with a shave most days. Good design easy cleaning.

Negatives. Face ripping is still not totally gone but much improved. I think shaving with heavy growth would not be for this shaver but as a daily quickie very acceptable.

Conclusions. Long battery life, quick daily shave not far off a wet shave.
I did get some rash at first but I put this down to a new way of shaving. Bought some aftershave balm and 1 month on, no real problems.
I have nothing else to compare this to but have no problems recommending with limitations mentioned.

not quite perfect

If you purchase one of these shavers dont bother reading the instructions as they are not correct, I found this out by phoning the support number and was told that the instructions regarding initial charge were in fact in error, the charge light FLASHES when charging is complete, and does not glow steadily as stated in the booklet. The headguard is a bit rubbishy and the head release buttons are not too easy to operate as is the on off switch. Apart from that the shaver works very well when it comes to removing whiskers and that's what I bought if for. I would buy another in the future

Excellent Shaver

Having seen my previous Philishave die after 10 odd years - battery finally gave up the ghost I bought the model shown.
I read all the reviews I could find and took the view that the extra you pay for all the bells and whistles probably is not worth it. My model does have five lights that tell the overall battery charge level. As my old model had this useful feature I stuck with it.
The charging is quick and easy - I suspect however that the little holder will not be that useful as I travel alot it is easier to plug the thing in the mains directly.
The shave is good - as you hear with virtually all the reviews, not a good as a wet shave. However I can only get a good wet shave after a couple of days of not shaving. The daily shave is great with this shaver. It is better than the old model, but generally takes about the same time to shave - but this is a lot quicker that a wet shave. It gives the best electic shave I have found and with more time shaving will give nearly as good as a wet shave.
The flexible head also works well, especailly on the chin....
I highly recommend this shaver

Bare-faced cheek

What a complete and utter rip-off. The shaver works adequately at first if kept dry (if washed after use the blades take an eternity to dry and the effectiveness is reduced). Then the blades start to diminish quickly so that within a year - at most - they are pretty much blunt. To add the final insult, the battery wears out so fast it can only operate with the cord.

Oh, sorry, that wasn't the final insult - that is that to replace the blades costs half as much as the new unit.

Just stick to Bic.

Very pleased

Without a doubt the best electric shaver I've ever owned.

This is the first Braun shaver that I've owned and, from my experience of other brands Philishave and Panasonic to name just two, it is well ahead of the competition. Add to that the fact that it is well made, solid, sits comfortably and safely in the hand thanks to it's shape and grippy handhold section, can be rinsed under the tap and also comes in a sturdy plastic case and you'll struggle to do better.

Although not quite as good as a wet shave the 4875 comes very, very, very close.

Braun Pulsonic 9565

Having being used to wet shaving I thought I'd use this item for a few weeks before writing a review so I could be as balanced as possible.

First off, the look of the razor is very good. It has a blue rubberised back that feels good to the touch and helps with grip whilst shaving in those awkward spots. It comes with a plastic fitted hard case with real hinges that shouldn't break too soon. As the case is fitted there is no spaces for the cable, which is frustrating if you are going away for any length of time and you know the charge won't hold up. A minor niggle, but important never the less.

The angled head seems to follow the contours of my face reasonably well, except for my jaw line, which I had to shave over and over again which became sore and frustrating. I finally decided to finish this area with my usual wet razor, kind negating the benefits of this razor as I can usually wet shave quicker and with a closer result. But if electric shaving is your thing then the tilting head and additional locking feature, so it stays at a good angle to your top lip, is better than most I've seen.

It is very easy to clean, just a quick run under a running tap and a few taps and that's about it. I have found that a more thorough clean is recommended about once a week with the tiny brush, just to clean out any bristles missed by the daily clean.

The unit is quick to charge, but be warned it doesn't come with a shaving plug and if you don't have a shaving socket in your bathroom I'd recommend you order a plug at the same time. It also comes with a small bottle of oil to keep the foil and cutting head well lubricated after cleaning.

Overall I found this to be a good unit, with many positive features and if you already electric shave then this will be a great razor to look at. But for me, I still find wet shaving is the way to go, although saying that, when I have the time (at weekends for example) or when space is tight on holiday then I will definitely use this.

Excellent value for money

As a regular phillips mains shaver user I wanted a lightweight travel shaver and the HQ40 is exactly that. Despite its price and the fact it is battery operated it gives really good shave and seems smoother on the skin than my old philips mains shaver. If you skin suffers from wet shaving and you are thinking of taking the plunge with an electric shaver I would recommend you buy this shaver for a trial run - I doubt you will be disappointed.

Speed XL Review

I would definately urge anyone to buy this shaver. You really can tell the third set of shaver rings has been added, as the shaving time is much less and smooth. Cleaning is easy, FIVE STARS for Philishave HQ8170cc.

Mighty fine shaver

Well, after my 15 month old daughter threw my Braun Cruzer on the ground, rendering it unusable by the fact it was stuck in the on position and could not be turned off. I had to look for a new shaver. I have always trusted Amazon on choice and price (got the Cruzer from them) and after a bit of comparing went for the MS5800. After a week of using it i can completely recommend it, much better shave than the Cruzer, a bit bulkier but just feels quality. It shaves close very quickly, and with the digi display you know how long the charge is going to last, my old Cruzer lasted about 20 mins tops but the Remington will last for an hour + the reserve 5min tank. Waffled enough, get this shaver if you want a decent shave.

excellant shaver

recieved the shaver the next day special delivery wen i got hold of it it felt like the money i paid for it, its excellant and looks great this is a cool shaver to get i like the foil shaver like this is was going to get a shaver with 3 rings but foil is alot better and glad i got this shaver. recommened to everybody who wants a decent shaver am going to stick with braun shavers from now on.

Braun quality

My second electric shaver and a huge improvement on my old Braun 4745 Tri-control. The pivoting head and Smartfoil make a huge difference. No rash or burn. Very close shave and recharges really quickly. As with most electric shavers you won't get every single awkward whisker - but this Braun Contour rarely misses!

Excellent price excellent performance

Well I used to be a wet shaver but was fed up of the effort involved so looked around for an elecric razor. This one ticked all the boxes - value for money functional and with good reviews. I have to say the shaver did not disappoint. It gives a remarkably close shave even when your used to wet shaving! The slide out long hair trimmer also feels very sturdy not like those flimsy flip out ones. The shaver handles long and short hairs with eae and is unbeatable quality and performance at the price amazon are selling it for. Bag a bargain
