Review for Philips PET716/05 - 7inch Portable DVD Player:
Good points: whilst the screen is of low-resolution it's not as harsh or blocky as many similar screens on budget machines. The player handles the vast majority of DivX files without complaint, though it refuses to play HD files.
Bad points: I initially found it unbelievable that this player can't correctly play 4:3 (non-widescreen) DVDs - it will only play them at 16:9. Philips support then actually confirmed the fact: so if you have any 4:3 DVDs they will only play stretched out across widescreen, with everyone and everything looking fat. Note that this problem does not affect DivX playback: the LCD aspect ratio of DivX is selected according to the TV ratio chosen in the player setup.
A secondary problem with this player is that whilst it is capable of showing DivX subtitles, several functions on the remote tend to lead to the subtitles vanishing. Only re-loading the disc recovers them, but fast-forwarding to the point you were at in the footage risks them vanishing again. Final irritation: when you start play, the time elapsed is always superimposed on the screen. You have to press a button on the remote twice to clear the timing from the screen - which may seem trivial but rapidly becomes tiresome.
Conclusion: this hardware could have made a potentially good budget machine, but here is coupled with with firmware which Philips should be ashamed of. The 4:3 DVD fault is so limiting that I suspect a case could be argued that the model is not fit for the purpose for which it is sold.

Review for Shinco SDP-1735 - 7inch Portable DVD Player with FM transmitter - ipod white:
Opening the carry case you are presented with a host of accessories a car charger, a/v cable the mains adaptor remote control a Li-ION` Battery and headphones.
The player itself is very sleek looking with a shiny white iPod finish on the exterior matched with bits of silver at the same time it is a very solid built player defiantley not on the cheap side you can tell time has gone into the design and build.
I defiantley wasn't expecting this I can tell you, opening the player now there's an exterior black matt finish with large silver buttons the buttons are all neatly layed out and easy to operate.
The first DVD I played was Man hunter the visuals were absolutly stunning, I was surprised as it was sharper then my previous Shinco 1720c which is a more expensive model the other feature I noticed was that it was much quieter when running DVDs
All in all the Shinco 1735 is a another great player from Shinco but this one is my favourite

Review for Hyundai HPD719 - Multi-region 7inch LCD Portable DVD/MPEG-4 Player - Pink with Free Carry Case:
Nice Pink Machine
When I opened the box, I really liked the color and design of the cabinet, which pink looks much more classic than other pink products I saw in Woolworths and Toys R US. Some of the pink colors such as TVs and Audios I saw in Woolwoths do not look very nice to me so I wondered how it would compare against the others and I was so impressed with color and design of the cabinet case. The player also does the job to my full satisfaction, clear picture image, good stereo sound from the case and long enough battery life time etc. The carry case is very handy and a bonus at the value. Region-free is set from the beginning so I do not have to hassle to get region free code and input etc. Lovely player !5

Review for Mustek VIEWFUN PD77 Dual Screen Portable DVD Player with Car Harness:
Only minor problems are no battery options so it must always be plugged in. The mains adapter only has one socket so you can only power one screen. (the in car adapter has 2 power outputs so is fine)
Very easy to fit and take out when not in use.
For the price I would says is better than expected quality and so very good value.

Picture quality needs work
I bought this about two weeks ago, it seems you're gambling whichever protable DVD player you choose these days. The player itself works fine, I got the region to multi and everything. Popped a dvd in and immediately every few seconds the screen goes dark, and it stays that way throughout most of whatever you're watching. And this was for all the dvd's I watched, so it's not the DVD. I'm highly disappointed and I'm not sure what to do next. I'll see if I can return it for another one, hopefully they aren't all like that.9
Review for Philips PET1030/05 - 10.2inch Portable DVD Player:
The build quality is OK - the lid snaps shut a little too sharply and you have to dig your fingernails under the lid to prize it open. The swivel screen is a nice idea, but I'm concerned that with use it'll be the first part of the product to fail. Since it only swivels 180 degrees, you might make the mistake of forcing it the wrong way or too far. At £180, it still represents great value, as long as you accept the minor imperfections. It would also benefit from being a slot-loading player, so you don't have to faff with the lid.

Reasonable quality product with a few foibles
This product looks great - Philips are still obsessed with Apple's design principles. The sound quality and screen quality are significantly better than my previous 7" toshiba portable. It plays like a proper DVD/TV combo - you'll find that the 10" screen is big enough to use as a kitchen or sideboard DVD player. The build quality is OK - the lid snaps shut a little too sharply and you have to dig your fingernails under the lid to prize it open. Shinco SDP-6820 DVD Player - QUALITY
After researching portable DVD players, I opted for the Shinco sdp 6820. The sound and picture quality are above anything I could have expected. I have already told a couple of my friends they have to get one. If you are thinking of buying one, then don't look any further. These things are brilliant. However, the first machine I received had a fault on it which Shinco said it was just bad luck, I sent it back and a replacement arrived very quickly, and I could not fault this.11

Review for Sony RDR-VX450 - DVD Recorder & VCR Recorder Combi:
Ideally, i'd like a refund and go for a more recent model with a hardrive as to be honest i haven't used the VCR function as the quality is so inferior to DVD's.
When the DVD recorder actually works, the picture is fantastic and the machine has some great features. However i cannot recommend this machine due to its faults.

Review for Sony RDR-VX450 - DVD Recorder & VCR Recorder Combi:
Problematic
I've had this for a few months and the main problem is that it is very temperamental about which discs you can use. I've tried about three different makes of Double Layer discs and i'm never that confident with the recordings. I've been through several +R's and RW's and finally after having some problems with Sonys own make discs, i'm now making arrangements to have Sony look at and hopefully repair the machine. I've seen plenty of negative feedback about this machine so i'm wondering if there is a general flaw with the machine and if repairs will actually make a difference?Ideally, i'd like a refund and go for a more recent model with a hardrive as to be honest i haven't used the VCR function as the quality is so inferior to DVD's.
When the DVD recorder actually works, the picture is fantastic and the machine has some great features. However i cannot recommend this machine due to its faults.

Review for PHILIPS PET830/05 - 8.5inch Portable DVD Player:
The device is really nice to look at with it's sleek black front and glossy white back. The stand feature is really good to place the device on a flat surface for hands free viewing.
The PET830 comes bundled with loads of extras (in car adapter, car headrest fitting etc) but I have not used any of these as I only used the player at home. I mainly plug the unit in when I use it, with the supplied power adapter, but the built in battery is useful sometimes. I have managed to watch 4 episodes with a full charge, approx 3 hours in total.
I have had many players before and have returned them for poor screen and sound quality so I believe I am quite fussy in that regard. However, I have seen no real problems with this player.
The sound from the on board speakers is as you would expect from a device of this size (imagine laptop speakers) which is OK, but I think the device is best used with headphones. The volume (with headphones) is fantastic - I only have it turned up to 8 (about half way) - this is far better than any other portable DVD player I have owned.
I do agree with the other reviews about the screen quality. While it would be more than acceptable for most viewers, those who like perfection and a very crisp picture will be let down if they buy this player. I would however, compare the screen quality with my Samsung 40" LCD TV when viewing Sky (not HD). This for me is perfectly fine. You can also adjust the screen for contrast, brightness and colour which can improve the picture quality alot and enables you to adapt the screen for different light levels.
Overall, I am very pleased with this player and I would recommend it to potential buyers.

Disappointed ! Xoro Multiregion Portable DVD Player & Digital Freeview TV
I got this product from Germany via Amazon Marketplace, I really liked the design of this Xoro 9.2" Multiregion Portable DVD Player & Digital Freeview TV and even without the battery it looks great as a tablet PC type of design but getting Freeview was one big headache I can't belive how hard it is to watch television. I tried lots of different aerials to get a good reception but all I got was a few TV channels and a few radio stations. The only good thing left is the DVD player it play all my DVD's even the DVD disks that I brought from the USA. I am left feeling disappointed with Xoro 9.2" Multiregion Portable DVD Player & Digital Freeview TV product. My advice to anyone who wants a Multiregion Portable DVD Player & Digital Freeview TV is to go for products from Shinco - Shinco Multiregion Portable DVD Player with TV Tuner support from Amazon I also got one of these products and trust me it works the moment you get it out of the box !!!19

nextbase twin dvd players
We bought these to take on holiday for the kids to use in the car. We did consider the twin players where you have to watch the same thing but these dvd players are much better as you can use them together or separate. There is a lead which you can plug in the cigarette lighter and into each dvd player and a connect wire if you want them to be joined up. There is also a mains plug and rechargable battery pack if you want to watch them out of the car. There are car mounts and carry bags for both dvds. The picture and sound quality is good too and they seem easy to use. They even play multi region dvd's! Vey impressed with what you get for your money.20

Can be made multiregion, quality not as good as PMPs
This DVD player is very stylish and sleek however the image quality can not really match up to any media players such as the Archos, Ipod, Zen, Iriver etc. as the resolution is simply not enough for the 7" screen. The player comes with a USB port to allow attachment of pen drives or card readers but it is only USB 1.1 not USB 2 so it is sloooow. I also had problems with the OK button not functioning on a number of DVDs so you should check that before buying. The player can be made multiregion- using the remote control press setup, down arrow, down arrow, right arrow, 212225 (the code will not be shown), left arrow, down arrow. The region code box should then be shown- enter 0 and press setup to save.Portable DVD Players, PHILIPS PET707/05 - 7inch Portable DVD Player, Philips PET716/05 - 7inch Portable DVD Player, Shinco SDP-1735 - 7inch Portable DVD Player with FM transmitter - ipod white, Hyundai HPD719 - Multi-region 7inch LCD Portable DVD/MPEG-4 Player - Pink with Free Carry Case, Philips PET706 7" Portable Widescreen DVD player, Philips PET704/05 Portable DVD Player, Mustek VIEWFUN PD77 Dual Screen Portable DVD Player with Car Harness, Philips DCP850/05 8.5inch Portable DVD Player, Philips PET1030/05 - 10.2inch Portable DVD Player, Shinco SDP-6820 - 8.5inch Multi-Region Portable DVD Player with DivX, Built-In Card Reader, TV Tuner Support and Travel Case, Philips PET821/05 Portable DVD Player, Sony RDR-VX450 - DVD Recorder & VCR Recorder Combi, PHILIPS PET830/05 - 8.5inch Portable DVD Player, Orbit 9.2" Portable DVD Player with TV, Freeview, Game, USB, Toshiba SDP71S- 7" Portable DVD Player with Carry Case, Panasonic DVD-LS86EB-K - 8.5" Portable DVD Player - Black, "(XORO) Portable 9.2"" DVD Player & DVB-T TV (HSD7510)", Sony - DVP-FX720 portable DVD player in red, NextBase Twin screen SDV77B 7 inch player bundle&, PHILIPS PET730/05 - 7inch Portable DVD Player

Great for kids
Very happy with this set... excellent value. My six year old is quite able to use the controls and his little brother gets to watch too. Only problem we've had is with the remote... we can't get it to work but it's not a big deal. I can't think of a time when I'd want to use it.
