Does everything it says on the box!

I was looking for a portable dvd player that could play all the current formats (-r, +r, divx, multi region etc)and after a ton of time researching I came up with this model. It has a nice sleek look to it and feels very light in the hand. I have tried most of the formats on it and they all worked perfectly. The bonus of this model is the extra sized screen which does make a lot of difference, I could have bought a 7" model for the same money. The picture quality is excellent with no visible light spots and it plays even copies beautifully.
All the relevant leads are included so you can attach it to a tv if you want and maintain a good picture. The remote control is an appropriate credit card size. I would have given 5 stars except for two minor points. The first is the sound which could have been given a bit more oomph, although with earphones this is not an issue. The second is that the loudness of the disc motor can be a little on the loud side, but as before when wearing earphones you do not notice this.
So all in all I believe this to be a quality peice of kit from a major brand name at a reasonable price. (I purchased mine from the marketplace) I would definitely recommend this model if you are not looking for anything too fancy but something you can rely on to do exactly what it promises.

Ok, but expected higher resolution

Very sleek model, although the stand system is a little impractical when viewing from different vantage points. Also for the 8.5" size, could have had a slightly higher resolution.

Elegant and nice!

I was in the market for a good quality portable DVD player for my daughter and stumbled on this Xoro gem which also comes with Freeview TV and whole host of other useful features. The player looks really smart and feels robust. The screen gives very good pictures. The unit's seven-day electronic programme guide is easy to operate and the tuner only takes a couple of minutes to locate the TV and radio channels. The player comes with its mini-aerial, and like all digital sets, this TV does have to be in strong signal area to receive TV preogrammes. Other features include an SD card reader so one can view their photos as a slideshow. There are two headphone jacks which is handy if you have two kids who want to watch a DVD at the same time when you are driving!

The only area that is not allowing me to give it 5 stars is the TV reception in poor signal areas (not the players fault mind you!). Overall very pleased and recommended.

Can be made multiregion, quality not as good as PMPs

This DVD player is very stylish and sleek however the image quality can not really match up to any media players such as the Archos, Ipod, Zen, Iriver etc. as the resolution is simply not enough for the 7" screen. The player comes with a USB port to allow attachment of pen drives or card readers but it is only USB 1.1 not USB 2 so it is sloooow. I also had problems with the OK button not functioning on a number of DVDs so you should check that before buying. The player can be made multiregion- using the remote control press setup, down arrow, down arrow, right arrow, 212225 (the code will not be shown), left arrow, down arrow. The region code box should then be shown- enter 0 and press setup to save.

very good dvd player .. good size screen batt lasts the 6 hours sound ok with the speakers .. looked at alot of dvd players this is the best one out there at the moment for the price

Probably the best around, despite minor failings

Having researched extensively online, there were very few in-car DVD players that met our requirements of:

1. Two big, clear screens
2. The ability to watch different DVDs at the same time, or the same DVD on both screens.
3. A USB and/or MemoryCard port to allow multiple movies to be carried around.

Only Nextbase products seemed to met all requirements, and the SDV685-AC appeared the best choice given the 8.5" screen size.

Upon opening the box, you are struck with how well thought-through the system is, with a good carrying case containing 2 of almost everything:
2 x 8.5" Players
2 x Headrest Mounts
2 x 100-230V AC power supplies (no additional supplies required for USA)
2 x 12v Car adapters (but no 1-plug-into-2-scocket splitter unfortunately)
2 x Remote controls (which operate either screen, more on this later!)
2 X Lithium battery packs

Plus every conceivable set of cables that you may need to connect the screens together or to a TV etc.

Good Points:

- Large, very clear screens with excellent contrast and colour saturation.
- Good build quality; the rubber-like case looks as if it will withstand the occasional 'splatter' that seems to occur in the back of cars!
- The quick-release mechanism allows screens to be removed easily from the headrest mounts which provided a good solid mount on our large headrests. Smaller headrests, or those with a curved back may benefit from using Nextbase mounts (not included) which firmly fix onto the headrest metal posts; however, at ~£25 each they need to be good!
- With the decent battery life, these DVD players operate as stand-alone systems for use during flights, buses or any other time you need to keep your kids amused.

Bad Points:
- Both remotes can operate either player. This has the advantage of being able to change the settings (volume for instance) of both players at the same time - but is a pain when attempting to change one of the players in close proximity to the other.
- Playback from the USB has, so far, been changeable (good sometimes, poor AV sync sometimes, jittery othertimes) - but I suspect that this is more to do with the way in which some movies have been compressed than the players, so I'll avoid 'throwing stones'.
- Built in speakers lack bass and are not overly loud. HOWEVER, only a madman would drive with a blarring screen stuck behind his head - so a pair of headphones for each kid wins every day.


Overall, an impressive bit of kit that has lived up to expectation. Is it worth the extra money (~£70) to buy the 2-player 685AC as opposed to the player+slave screen 685AM...I think so, but at least you have the opportunity to choose either way (or choose 7" screens, as they are also available)

Better than expected!

We bought this dvd player to keep our Ben entertained on long journeys in the car, and we are very pleased with it. The picture quality is brilliant, so does the sound, but better sound quality when using the earphone jack. The multiregion feature plays discs we brought back from States and it plays Dvix format and recorded discs.

The built-in TV function is a good extra to have which means Ben can watch his program and we can watch ours on the big tv. The remote control is very handy, very easy to select playing discs or watching tv.

Using the given aerial it picked up about 30 Freeview and four analogue channels, however this only worked in upstairs rooms within the house. Fixing to an ordinary roof aerial solved this problem, and easily picked up all the Freeview channels and radio.

The built-in rechargeable battery only supports 2 hours playback which is not so brilliant but is ok for us, as it can be run using the supplied car adaptor from the cigarette lighter so no worries about the battery going flat.

It is a shame this device doesn't come with a carry case. But over all very pleased with what it offers and very good value for money.

Feastronics 7" Multiregion DVD Player

This is a remarkably versatile machine. It does all that a DVD player can do very well and links to a normal TV. But it is also a TV receiver tuning easily to all the free digital channels and the analog TV channels. It will record from digital TV on to a pen-style hard-drive. It has games and a control console also which I have not tried as yet. My only surprise and disappointment was that the TV reception cannot be output to a full-size TV. Why not? The seller Feastronics should be congratulated on their excellent level of service to the customer.

fantastic piece if kit

Only got this last week after reading good feedback on Amazon. We took it on holiday for the kids and were not disappointed. Very easy to use, didn't even need to use instruction manual. Great rubber covering making it feel, and hopefully be, more robust. Good picture and good sound. Distributors gave great service and quick delivery.
