yes, but...
they were ace for about two weeks then started one little thing at a time, to fall apart. its a couple of months since i bought them, and am now back on amazon to spend more money on a different variety. i haven't treated them badly or anything, just used them everyday. it is so obviously worth spending more, when spending £2 or so only gets you these ones for about a fortnight.5

Someone said there's no shock protection - it's situated underneath the lid and also states on the player itself that it has 'ESP' - although, maybe I have a slightly different model or something.
As for the volume, it goes ridiculously loud. I have it at about 4 usually and that's fine for me. I usually put it up to 7 or 8 if I'm on a train. But those people who complained about it not being loud enough, how loud do you want it?? Any louder than 10 and your ear drums will burst.

hours of entertainment, i reccomend this product..
i bought this player a while ago, and i'm am nothing but pleased so far, origionally i was looking for an MP3 player, but this is a GREAT alternate, altho i have not tested the software that comes with it, i used Nero6 express.. the quality good, i heard someone say about the earphones supplied were not loud enough, but i use some from my old player anyway. overall i think this is a great player at a really decent price, in my opinion totally worth buying! (its great to have a few hundred songs on one CD and battery power last very long!)7

i was pleasantly surprised at how long the power lasts with the batteries i used (1000mAh uniross rechargeables) and the sound quality and volume produced.
Definitely a must buy for your ipod if you have a strict budget, definitely value for money.
A pity about the design of the docking base... absolutely useless as it's impossible for the ipod to sit in the way the image displays with the jack connecting at the bottom, sticking out.
It really deserves a 5 star rating if it wasn't for the poor design of the docking base!

Another of the Freeplay Eyemax's strengths is its battery stamina. I listen to my unit each morning for around half an hour yet it only seems to need charging every couple of months. Charging is a breeze with a choice of three methods; by the crank handle (which folds away flat when not in use), by a solar panel built into the top or by regular mains adaptor (mine came with a 6v DC unit). Eighteen months of daily use later and the battery still appears to be in tip-top condition taking a full charge and lasting for weeks and weeks.
The Freeplay Eyemax has a pull-up, multi-directional rod antennae which extends to 12" and picks up well in most locations - including hotel bathrooms at home and abroad. Add this to the fact that it weighs less than a pound (including battery) and the Freeplay Eyemax is the perfect travelling radio, easily tucking into your hand luggage.
The unit is also equipped with a standard 3.5mm headphone socket though replay through this is mono even with stereo 'phones.
Overall, I give this radio 4 stars out of 5, which is excellent considering its price. Highly recommended.

Good things sometimes come in small packages!
Very little to be negative about. Good sound, very versatile settings, the radio seems quite sensitive, even with the silly wire aerial and the CD sound is perfectly adequate to all but perfectionists. You can use headphones (proper ones, not those painful plastic things). It does what it says on the box - that's all you can ask. I also like the light-sensing display. I just hope it's reliable - I may change my mind if it breaks!10

Absolutely brilliant, don't hesitate!
We all know PURE pretty much invented the portable DAB radio and reviewers are never slow to point out that PURE sets tend to sound much better than the competition. This is equally true of the new PURE Elan RV40 which is truly one of the best I've heard - and it looks more like a conventional radio too (sleek dark grey case) rather than those strange wood and plastic boxes that PURE tend to churn out - and which I don't like at all. The controls are not exactly intuitive, but with a bit of thought and practise (read the manual first!) they soon become second nature. The sound is really clean and crisp and surprisingly full - and you can crank it up pretty loud too, unlike many other"tinny"-sounding portables. I have had absolutely NO problems whatsoever with DAB sound even though the reception is supposed to be patchy in my neck of the woods. FM reception is first class too and the pause/rewind of live radio is a neat and useful feature. Add to that the inclusion of a snooze button, and you have a brilliant sounding and well-equipped portable radio. I am super-fussy about gadgets like these, but this is absolutely wonderful and I recommend it without hesitation. I also managed to find a dealer on Amazon selling it at approximately £30 less than John Lewis!!!12

quality and ease of use
This is a superb personal radio with easy to use controls, easy to set up and an ideal size. Earphones are comfortable and don't fall out at the least shake of the head! What really surprised me was the quality of sound from such a small unit. All in all, a good buy that I would recommend to anyone. Shame about the delivery of the third party supplier.13

Don't hesitate.
After reading various reviews on personal DAB radios I nearly gave up the idea. In the end I took the plunge and opted for the Roberts as we already have two Roberts DABs in the house which we love. I wanted the radio for walking the dog and the odd bit of jogging through the fields and lanes in Devon. Although the man in the shop said it's not designed for jogging, it seems to love it! It's amazing. Reception is brilliant, just the very occasional bit of burbling when you go into a dip to cross a river, but it doesn't mean you can't hear what's being said. Fits well into a pocket. Casing and controls feel really good. Buttons and control wheel don't get moved by accident, although there is a lock for the control wheel. Supplied earphones are fine, bit then I don't have an ipod so may not be very discerning in this respect. Although there are no presets, let's be honest, it's not that difficult to select a station using DAB is it. I'm using rechargeable batts. Receives about 28 stations in Devon, including all the bbcs and classic. Compared to FM and MW around here, there's no contest. Unless you live in an area where DAB is dodgy, just go and get one. It's my new best friend.18

A great little unit
A great little unit comes with a remote controller which is not always mentioned but very useful. Controls are well placed and easy to use. I could have wished for a slightly better tone but mega bass is available which makes a lot of difference. I really congratulate Sony for using re-cyled cardboard packing instead of that ghastly plastic foam which gets everywhere these days. for the price these speakers deliver a superb sound. compatible with i pods,all mp3s and portable cd players.i couldn't find them cheaper elsewhere.
