A good, solid versatile printer

A grateful thanks to all previous reviewers. On their recommendation, I have bought this machine and not been disappointed. It was all and even more than what was written. Very versatile machine; especially where ink economy is concerned: have done a lot of printing work,and ink levels have hardly moved. This has to be compared to Epson inks, print one page and their cartridge(s) is/are practically empty. It prints quickly, too. A good solid machine.
I would also recommend it to any would be purchaser.

Excellent value all in one printer

For the money I dont think you can find better.

The printer has all the functions you need for basic at home use. If you are going to scan and print lots of photos then you will probably be best looking elsewhere, but if all you are going to do is print the odd letter, scan in or copy douments then this is the ideal device.

Have used mine to scan and print and all looks good so far.

Hopefully I have a cheque in the post from Canon that makes this an even better purchase!

Why do Hp Only Half Fill A 339 Cartridge, 21mls When You Can Get 34mls Of Ink In It!!!!!!!

Well I think people are starting to realise that original branded 339 ink cartridges are way too expensive, and offer the same quality as British premium compatible cartridges.

I myself have spent so much money on original 339 ink cartridges and now have found it to be much cheaper to go for the compatible ink cartridges.

I now buy from advantage-online.co.uk and i find their customer service to be fantastic and their price to be very competitive.

Im one of these guys who always complains about the level of customer service in the Uk, people don't seem to care about their company and can't wait to have a fag break or goto the pub. So i am happy that i have found advantage-online.co.uk as their customer service is the best in my experience. mmm i feel good actually saying something nice about customer service.

Superb all rounder !!

This has to be the best all in one photo printer on the market !
The scan quality is of a very high quality enabling you to even scan in photos and reproduce exact duplicates.

Using the printer with my OsX alu imac has caused absolutely no problems at all to those concerned.

The print speed, even upon high quality photo is still impressive ! Ive always doubted the quality of injet photos in comparison to lab quality but with this printer it is near impossible to tell the difference.

I am yet to fault this robust, jack of all trades master of everything printer, few lay concerns upon the various ink cartridges and there availability or size and capacity, well, in total i have printed near 200 4*6 high quality photographs in addition to 250 pages of full colour research and documents and have just replaced the ink cartridges for £35 and that included next day delivery! for the price this printer cannot be beaten !

Nice Piece of kit.

I agree with most of the good points by the other contributors, although I havn't found a fax on my 520!

I did have a small problem when a strip of foam rubber/plastic was ejected with a printed sheet. I rang Canon who said it was a"waste ink absorber" and it was very important and I should contact one of their service companies (the nearest was about 200 miles away and you have to post it to them). I contacted Amazon who said that they would replace the printer. The replacement came the next day and the Parcel Force Driver took the defective one away.

That's what I call service.

Great value for money

I only needed this printer for small word documents to be printed so i wasn't too bothered about the quality or speed of this printer. however just to test it out when i received it first i tried out its Internet Explorer plug-in, which allows you to drag around any part of a web page and print ONLY that selection. i tried this with a colour page and it produced quickly a high quality print off. This was a pleasant surprise to me, as a printer for this money should be rubbish.

it comes with introductory cartridges, not sure how long they will last, but the replacement hp 21(black) and 22(colour) cartridges cost together just over £16. or even less when really bargain hunting.

its best feature to me is its size. its almost smaller thatn your average bread bin, even with the paper flap open.

the only downside to me is its paper alignment flap. it has a small bit of plastic to push the paper to the right, yet when you do this the paper gets scrunched up on that side. ive found that it infact needs to be pushed up against the moveable part to the left instead to get the paper in straight when printing. a small flaw i know, but there aren't any others of which to mention.

i'd definitely recommend this to anyone on a budget, but still wants quality.

Standard envelopes 110mm x 220mm

This printer is no good at all... A4 paper is OK but how about envelope to put this paper in ? No sir, tray will not take standard evnelope 110mm x 220mm. Who design this printer? I got it from Amazon for printing hundreds and thousands of these envelopes.... its no good to me so D92 is going back to Amazon next week. I am not blaming printing quality but its very very slow.

Superb, get it while you can !!

Right, before you read this, go and order one, as I write there are two left and this printer has a RRP of £200.

I never thought I would get excited about a printer, but this one is absolutely superb. I bought it mainly for printing DVD's and as a replacement for my R220. The setup is a doddle, and although I hate bloatware the applications installed with this unit are actually useful.

The very first thing I tried was printing a photo onto the supplied sample 6"x4" photo paper. The result was unbelievable, Epson actually boast that this printer produces better results than a photo labs machines.

It has a full colour, adjustable display for previewing etc and for using the printer direct ie. without a computer. It has USB/PICT input for direct connection of a suitable camera. It also has a choice of paper feeds from either the back (traditional) or from the front/underneath. You can keep paper in both (of different sizes if you wish) and just select the one to use as you print.

Ths scanner is fantastic also but the one thing I probably wont use too much, but handy to have all the same.

I have bought 'compatible' ink for £16 for a full set which isn't bad for the new V4 inks.

Ok it is a little mechanical sounding, and quite big (but not unattractive).

For this price (£89.99) you are stealing it.

Nice little printer

Cheap, fast, tiny footprint and small (lives on a little coffee table under my Ikea desk): what more do you want? My only regret is that I didn't buy one ages ago but instead carried on printing text from my inkjet.

Excellent Product

If you need a network printer that is easy to set up then this is it.

Just plug in the supplied ethernet cable into the printer and into your network router or hub/switch, install the software from CD and 10 minutes later you are up and running.

If you have more than one PC on your network all you need to do is install the software onto each PC and job done, I set up 4 PCs in about half an hour with no problems.

Very Good Value

I can only agree with what has already been said. I spent a lot of time looking at various web sites to buy a basic printer. I was a little concerned at the very low price on this one, but it has turned out to be the bargain that I hoped for. I use it with both XP and Vista. In both cases it installed very easily and I've been using it now for a month with no problems. It prints as well as other similar printers I've owned in the past (one of which was an Epson, which I wouldn't recommend due to the high ink costs). I would highly recommend this Canon for those who want a simple, low volume home printer.

Brilliant labeller

I have had absolutely no problems with this labeller on Mac OS Panther or Tiger.

The label software is pretty horrible, though. Looks like a Windows port. Ugly, slow and poor functionality. Still, it does the job. At least well enough for me not to bother to try to get Mail to print to it.

As for not working with Vista? Well........... ;-))

have it hooked up to our router & works fine wirelesly for everything but scanning and uploading the scanned image ... can't figure out what the problem is, have downloaded & reloaded drivers & software several times ...

worst part of it is the non-existant customer"support" ... gave up after weeks of trying ...

would love to give it a great review as hate to think I purchased rubbish, but it is what it is - ....

Linux-friendly printer

The main reason I bought a this printer is that HP is one of the few companies to provide drivers for Linux. Rather than using the HP device manager, I found it easier to configure using CUPS direct. The printer functions perfectly. Having read expert reviews about the poor quality of its text printing, I was surprised to find it superior to my previous Epson and Lexmark models. Its photocopies are more than satisfactory and its colour prints even better. The build quality is good - far better than that of the Lexmark X4550 (bought by a friend). I paid £72.88 for the C5280 at Amazon, when everywhere else it retailed for over £99. A happy Linux customer.

Fast - I am VERY happy with this

I have tried a few usb sticks. I bought one of these first from a local shop. When I needed a 4G I thought I would get a different brand so I could tell which was which. I went to Curry's and bought their own but it is much, much slower. I bought a (since forgotten) new 2G from Amazon but gave it away. I bought some cheap 1G usb sticks and will now give them away. I have since bought a second EasyDisk from Amazon. Nothing I have tried is as fast as this. If you copy largish amounts of data regularly (I use mine for regulare backups) then you will be happy with this.

I am going to stich with EasyDisk and use felt pens to distinguish between them all!

I'm going to marry my R2400!

For the past 30 years I've been stuck in the fume room developing prints in trays, both colour and Black & White. I've always been sceptical of inkjet printers mainly because I've owned 4 consumer models and none has lasted more than a couple of years. The last inkjet I owned went sailing out of a window landing on the bonnet of my Ford Orion.

The R2400 is a different kettle of fish to all those cheap plastic examples you see in PC World. This printer , once profiled correctly, will give you stunning colour prints up to A3+. As a previous reviewer has pointed out, it does drink ink, But I've invested in a Fotospeed Continuous Ink System for my printer and it's superb! You can can now make reasonably sized prints in your own home to a professional standard without going to a pro lab. I have been using Ilford Smooth Pearl paper and downloaded the profile from their site and the results on the first print were perfection in my eyes. For the past 3 years I've tried to stay with film but all the technology has moved on so much I can no longer dismiss digital photography. I've also bought a Nikon D200 also a fine camera but that will be covered elsewhere. Get the R2400 with a CIS system and you won't go far wrong. There are plenty of forums online to help you if you get stuck. The best one is at Photo i, where I got all the answers I needed.

Double check the specs!

This is a good quality simple to use, no nonsense photo printer and at a good price. However there are a few things to bear in mind! If you have a camera with an XD memory card you may will need to buy an adapter for it to work and make full use of the options!.......this can be expensive for a XD to Compact Flash adapter, the XD to Smart Media adapter on Amazon is a lot cheaper and hopefully will fit and work in the SD card slot.
Other wise you fill have to use your cameras USB cable to connect it up and print using the lcd screen on the camera, but losing the printer options. Although a bit more expensive the CP750 allows you to crop and adjust the colour settings which this model doesn't.
Overall a good easy to use printer with great results, but think twice of you have an XD or Micro memory card that will need an adapter, and if this model had the trim and crop option it would have made it a 5 star rating and just might be worth the extra for the CP750 for some.

mediocre and disappointing for HP

This printer has terrible print quality as soon as you go over 6 x 4 pictures - sometimes even then. Lines are clearly visible even when it is supposedly on the very best photo quality. It is also annoying to use, reverting to previous settings in the middle of a print job, and printing something different to the preview. I've wasted time, ink, paper and money with this printer.

Awful Printer

This has got to be the worst printer I have ever worked with and being in the IT field I work with a lot. But to make matters worse the company doesn't have a return policy for it. They will blame it on the software and drivers for it, so you are stuck with a bad printer. Save yourself some money and buy another brand.

Brilliant!

They both feel and look amazing! I was a bit worried that it wouldn't look as good opposed to a proper CD/DVD label printer, but they are just too expensive and this does the job exactly the same (if not better!) with just a bit more manual labour involved. It also collaborates brilliantly with"Disc Cover" the CD/DVD label design software for mac, also available on Amazon.

To get the whole package of CD/DVD labeling equipment, I would recommend:

"Disc Cover", the label design software.

"DYMO CD/DVD Label Applicator", applys the labels to the disc with much ease.

and of course...

"CD/DVD Matte Labels 100pk", very good quality and feels smooth on the disc!
