Review for High School Musical - Solus (PS2):
If you like high school musical, youll love this game.
this game is ace, my boyfriend bought it me because i love both films and im always singing the songs like 'i dont dance'. I gave it a go and i was on it all day! my boyfriend had to refill my glass of water for me a few times though because i was singing my heart out. The duets are soo cool. you can have 8 people in your singing party to sing along with you. also if you and someone else are singing duets and your friends are waiting for their turn on the mics, they can fiddle with stuff thats on your stage. they can change instruments and all sorts. (you have to see it to understand)
however i agree with some of the reviews because the cartoons arn't great, they only have videos in the extras and those videos are of dance rehearsals and interviews. and the basketball pitch metor can get annoying but it can help too. If the blue lines are dark blue it means you didn't hit the right note as the singers. but if its light blue then you did it. there is loads of songs! there is about 21 songs that are in high school musical 1 and high school muscial 2. there is also about 9 more songs that arnt in the movie but they are in other disney movies like jump in.
all in all, i love this game, well worth it weather your after a good sing along or a funny karaoke party.
im defiantly buying this game for my friends birthday presents.

Major Disappointment!!!
Love the Ratchet and Clank series to bits, and bought this on PS2, as heard it had been on PSP. By the looks of the Intro credits, seems to have been made by a different people to the insomniac team who created the other brilliant ratchet games, and boy does it show!!! The gameplay is simplistic to say the least, the camera when you are playing is just plain awful. May have been a good title on the PSP (I'm assuming, I haven't played it), but looks as though they just couldn't be bothered with adjusting anything when they put it onto the PS2, was so bad I took it back the next day....

Great fun
Although I wasn't sure at first glance, this game has turned out to be great fun. It's almost impossible to die(if you do you just come back), so there's no annoying 'I almost made it' parts. Very humourous. You can do silly things, like put moustaches on the characters. The only frustrating part I've found so far is the podrace, as it's easy to crash and you get shot at. After a few tries however, it becomes easy. Not much of a challenge, but especially fun as a multiplayer game.

Review for SingStar: Rock Ballads with 2 Microphones (PS2):
Rocking good fun
I have bought every singstar there has been so far and I can honestly say that this is the best by far. There is a huge choice of songs on this one, with some real greats that most people love to sing along to, however although they have more songs, I still feel that singstar are falling short of many of the classic songs, that would get more people buying their products... I can always think of better songs they could have chosen than some of them on the list.

On the whole this is pretty good and I'm still looking forward to the next release. How about some great movie themes next? You could call it Singstar Movie Hits!

Well, i bought this for ps2. It says clearly that there is up to 4 players, it is also advertised on TV as such but the ps2 version clearly does not offer this. (even though it says so on the box).It was a very importaint part of buying the game to have 2 player or more. So not too happy really.

Review for TNA Impact (PS2):
Having played the game at a Midway press conference
Having played the game at a Midway press conference, all I can say is I was very impressed.

The gameplay is fluid, and light years ahead of the Smack down vs. Raw series. This game is going to be the best wrestling game since No Mercy on the N64.

The new options are fantastic especially the Ultimate X match, this is by far the best type of match I have ever played on a wrestling game. Lots of the TNA roster put a lot of effort into building this game, both through motion capture (which is obvious from how good the game looks) to the drawing board stage. These young guys like the champion Joe, and AJ Styles are hardcore gamer so know what gamers want, and their influence is clear and certainly paid off.

I would highly recommend this title, even based on the early version I played. I would recommend it no only to TNA fans, and not just WWE fans either (even though there is a lot for you as well with familiar faces such as Kurt Angle, Christian, Booker T, Rhino, Scott Steiner, The Dudley boys (Team 3D), Jeff Jarret, Sting, Christy Hemme and Tomko in the game) But to any fans of fighting games in general. You could even go as far to recommend it to all gamers, even if the fighting genre is not your think you may wish to check out this title because it really is a breath of fresh air, and an all round good game.

You can be confident it will be money ell spent, happy grappling.

Review for SingStar Party - Solus (PS2):
Great entertainment
You might have guessed that SingStar is a karaoke game. For this, you need the two exclusive SingStar microphones. If you already have another SingStar game, you should obviously get this on its own, but newcomers should buy the pack that includes this game and the two mics.

Not having played any other Singstar games, I don't know how this compares.

There are some great party tracks including Build Me Up Buttercup and I Should Be So Lucky. There are some modern songs which I don't think suit karaoke, but everyone has their own musical tastes. You can sing by yourself, as a duo or compete in two groups. The not-so-confident singer also has the option of practicing without any pressure!

Each track comes with lyrics plus the original music video. The lyrics are highlighted when they are to be sung and pitch bars show you when you should lower or raise the pitch of your voice. I find this a big help as I would otherwise have been singing as flat as a pancake! Messages such as"cool" and"awful" appear on the screen depending on how well you do on each line. The flaw is that if you don't sing the words correctly, but still get the pitch right, you will get a good score. No one likes a cheater!

When you have finished the song, you can play it back and, if you wish, add a hilarious high or low sound effect to your voice!

If you have an Eyetoy camera, you can use it with this game. You can have yourself on screen instead of the music video and you will sometimes get to take shots of you and your fellow competitors.

My view on karaoke is that it doesn't matter whether you are good are bad at singing, it's all for fun. SingStar is definitely fun!

Review for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater:
Not bad,but could have been much better.
I loved the PS1 Metal Gear Solid. It was exciting, and really enjoyed the story. Here,I thought the story was dreadful in certain areas.Of course, the game play is brilliant, and the action fantastic. However, the writer spoilt it by putting in a devious female character, who attempted to outshine the main hero.Sorry, but that wasn't to my liking. Not even the Boss, who Snake has to fight at the end.Still, its an enjoyable game, but it remains to be seen,if the next story is any better.Of course, that's just my humble opinion!

Tekken 5 (PS2)

Our Price: £14.98
Used Price: £9.00
New Price: £7.95

Review for Tekken 5 (PS2):
Annoying
This game does have redeeming qualities, but you have to be very forgiving to spot them. I need not mention the stupidity of the Story Mode and the idiotic idea for an end boss as that has been covered in other reviews. The controls are sluggish and my fingers ache from the necessecity of bashing the buttons. As I have more than one controller and this is a requirement on all, I can only assuming its the game designers intention to make our fingers bleed. Some of the moves are too simular and because of the afformentioned problem, it ends up being a bit of a pot chance which move you perform. I am aware that this game has a focus on combos, but more so air combos or juggles. Why? Seems so pointless to have a game where the goal is to either give your opponent no chance of fighting back or having no chance yourself. Might as well just flip a coin (ok, I exaggerate my point a little, but not by much). After Tekken 4, this game has not restored my faith in the series and replaying the classic arcade games, I've started to question whether that faith was well placed in the first instance.

Tekken was good for the time but it's dated. I don't understand why people think Tekken 2 was the best, it isn't much of leap forward from the first and Tekken 3 exceeds it in quality and extra features by leaps and bounds. I don't know why Tekken 4 was so bad but it just didn't give the same excitement as 3 for me and this version is merely an improvement on 4. I think what has gone wrong here is Tekken 3 managed to get the game play of the series up to that point to its peak. The subsequent instalments have merely tried to do the same instead of move on. The series is in need of a complete overhaul or they should retire it and leave us with our happy memories.

Nevertheless, I don't wish to be too critical on the game. I like to have more than one beat 'em up in my collection and Dead or Alive is so rubbish it's not worth concidering (same goes for any of the other pretenders out there). Tekken has been exceeded by Soul Calibur, which gets criticism from the Tekken crowd for being a button masher game with no skill required (pot calling the kettle black, some might say). Tekken 5 does have amazing graphics and the arcade game is enjoyable. It also doesn't let down too much in the all important versus mode (because, let's face it, these games are their best when you play with your mates). The Devil Within game is fun enough, just like the previous Tekken Force were, enjoyable side game to play when you're fed up shouting at the story mode.

In summary, really annoying, disappointing but better than Tekken 4 and very pretty.

New Price: £13.47

Review for Athens 2004 (PS2):
A must have !
Athens offers an array of sports to try - athletics, swimming, equine sports, weight lifting, shooting and archery. As one reviewer writes, the downside of the game is that so many of the events require hard core button tapping and for me the swimming is a no go as I feel like my hand will fall off after a single lap. It's the only game I've played on the PS2 where you can pick up an injury in reality. Thankfully the game offers so much more and the decathlon soon becomes addictive. By the second week I had world records in the high jump, pole vault and long jump ! Two player mode is great fun and I can recommend the archery after a night at the pub as co-ordination is vital if you are to succeed. The graphics are great and it's one of the non football games I don't regret buying.

The Sims 2 (PS2)

Used Price: £8.25
New Price: £12.49

Review for The Sims 2 (PS2):
A 100% dissapointment
This game was probably the biggest dissapointment ever. I got the game for christmas and having played the PC version at my friend's house I was very happy. I played the game for about an hour then I felt like doing something more interesting like ripping out my eyes.

The game has many faults, like the Sims (PS2) when you change a big curtain surrounds your sim then after an hour of sim time you've changed. When you eat it's not as easy as the PC version where you pick what you want, you have to pick the individual ingredients then you have to decide what to do with the ingredients, when you've finally made the food you have the option to look at it, drop it or eat it, that's about one step away from having the options chew and swallow. Another fault, did you ever have someone who you didn't like, but they kept coming round your house (in real life)? Every day on the Sims 2 is like that. Simple things like having a shower now take about 2 hours, how stinking can they get?

This game had great potential but turned out to be a huge dissapointment, that's why I reviewed it after selling my version.

God of War Platinum (PS2)

Used Price: £9.10
New Price: £6.95

Review for God of War Platinum (PS2):
Oh My God
I've never bothered to write a review before. What's the point, when other people have already done it for you. However, I am so gobsmacked by God Of War that I simply have to tell as many people as possible. It is quite simply the best game I've ever played. The graphics are unsurpassed on the PS2. Some rooms/scenes only require you to be there for a few seconds, yet the attention to detail is amazing. I find myself returning to places even though I've no real reason to be there - I'm just admiring the graphics.

And it's not just the visuals. The sound also really adds to the experience. Sometimes minimalist, sometimes creepy, sometimes full-on thumping soundtrack. In all scenarios the designers have got it spot on.

Finally, the gameplay. There's plenty of adrenalin-pumping fighting, but this game has so much more. It's not just about button-bashing. You actually have to use your brain too - both when fighting your enemies and when trying to figure out how to overcome one of the many problems/obstacles you encounter.

Not many games grab my attention like this one has. As I've grown older, got married, etc I've found less and less time to fire-up my PS2. However, as I approach the end of God Of War, I find myself wanting to stay up all night. Even once I've completed it, this is a game I will return to again and again. But wait, what's this....God Of War 2 is now available. Damn, looks like I'm in for plenty more late nights.

God of War 2 (PS2)

Our Price: £13.48
Used Price: £8.90
New Price: £11.46

Review for God of War 2 (PS2):
A good enough reason to buy a PS2.
The flaws of the first game have gone and now SCEA have created a game that pushes the power of the PS2 to the limit. The graphics are probably the best on the console, the gameplay is close to perfection and the soundtrack is so good it was released on CD. More than anything GOW II is a fantasy action game. That means lots of bloody combat and violence set within a perfectly realised world of greek mythology. There are puzzles but they are simplistic and are mostly a means to get from one stage to another.

The locations and environments in the game are beautifully realised. From the Temple of Eurayle to the Temple of the Fates the game never ceases to be visually stunning. Of particular note is the Island of Creation and the Steads of Time which are chain-linked to the island. The multi-coloured skylines are also beautifully drawn. The monsters are brilliantly drawn and animated. Minotaurs, Gorgons and Cyclops all return from the first game. All of them can be dispatched with a context-sensitive attack (the player must follow on-screen prompts). Kratos forces his chained blades into the mouth of the Minotaur, tears the head off the Gorgon or rips the eye of the Cyclops from its socket. But where the game really shines is in its boss battles. The battles against the Colossus of Rhodes and the Kraken are unforgettable and the confrontation with the Sisters of Fate and the final battle with Zeus are epic struggles. Kratos gets to ride the winged horse Pegasus in a couple of on-the-rails sections where he must fight marauding Griffons. The context-sensitive attack involves Kratos jumping onto the back of the Griffon, cutting its wings off, throwing the body away and then jumping back onto Pegasus. Kratos has some new toys to play with such as the Barbarian Hammer which has a soul-summon special attack and the Golden Fleece which can reflect or repel attacks. This is particularly useful against the very dangerous Gorgon Stare.

The game includes several short hi-res movies. Of particular note is where the Titan Cronos approaches his wife Rhea to devour another one of their children. The sense of scale and attention to detail is truly stunning and reflects the amount of effort that went into making this title. The only really tricky part of the game is the final context-sensitive attack of the game where Kratos"kills" the mortal form of Zeus. Titan Mode will give even the most hard-core gamer a challenge but playing it again with infinite magic and the Blade of Olympus is great fun. If this is what SCEA can do with the PS2 what can that do with the PS3? I can't wait.

SoulCalibur III (PS2)

Used Price: £8.49
New Price: £10.13

Review for SoulCalibur III (PS2):
Fantastic
I can't believe I haven't written a review for this game sooner. I've had it since it first came out and I love it. All the modes are engaging and enjoyable and it seems there is a character for any type of person (altho' in my opinion there are about three or four characters that are just plain rubbish... but that's always the way). It moves on well from Soul Calibur 2 and it looks great. The character creation is fun in itself but it does take a while to get your own characters to look as good as the main ones. It really amazed me and also gave me hope for future instalments (especially if the customised elements get improved upon).

Now, I'm writting this review after having written one for Tekken 5 and I feel inclined to throw my two pence into the"which is better" debate. I love the Tekken series when I first played it, but the last few in the series have been let downs. The major point in this debate is that Tekken fans will claim Soul Calibur is nothing but a button mashers paradise. This is rubbish, Tekken has always had the button mashing element as well. Tekken fans will also say that Soul Calibur requires no skill. Again, rubbish. In my opinion it takes more skill, but it's more accessable and the learning curve is better. Meaning, that yes you can button mash and do well when you start playing but as you learn the mechanics of the game you can perform the wide variety of moves available and do even better in the game. The game has a faster pace (I read one review that said Tekken has a fast pace... if you increase the difficulty... Soul Calibur is face paced on any difficulty, so you decide which is better). There is a lot the Tekken franchise could take from Soul Calibur like a more intuitive defensive play and being able to easily side step an opponent or roll out of the way. Soul Calibur is a real 3D fighting game. The actual fights in Soul Calibur are much more pleasing to the eyes as well.

Really, tho', I don't think there is much place for a debate, it ends up being a personal choice. All the arguements presented are somewhat empty and I've only mentioned why my affections have switched from Tekken to Soul Calibur.
