Review for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3):
A final farewell for the mind blowing series
First off as a ps3 exclusive you really cant go wrong anyway. Having finished the game Id just like to say that if you are having any doubts about buying this game you should get rid of them right now!
Graphics 5 star
game play 5 star
You really cant fault it. The landscape is breathtaking and the game play is and the gameplay is amazing what with the octocamo for stealth purposes as well as the close quarters combat. I did finish fairly quickly in a week but you can keep replaying as their different routes and hidden objects to find, the items you recover first time around also roll over to the next time. The cut scenes can at times drag on but if you are following the story they tie up all the loose ends.
I havent played much of the online but from what i have and the exandability with new maps, weapons etc. I can say it will provide entertainment for a long time.
All in all an amazing game that is definetly a must buy to play as snake for the last time!

Review for Sony Playstation 3 Console (40GB Version):
great console!
Ive had my PS3 a while now and I've decided to do a review for it. Now I've owned the 360 for a few months before deciding to let my brother buy it off me so I could get a PS3 and I also own a Wii. I must say that all three consoles are superbly built and designed and have great games on offer. I love both my WII and PS3 and I have great fun on both machines. The PS3 is obviously for more serious gaming, where as the Wii is for fun (although there are several serious games for it which I do own), but I enjoy both. The PS3 I thought was and is still a bit pricey but nevertheless I am happy with what I have got. It's a big console but a nice smooth looking console that offers some great options. Graphics that it produces are absolutely beautiful (depending on the game publishers), the controls, although still practically the same looking from the PS1/PS2 era, they are still great to use and now comes wireless with motion sensors, which I like. There are USB ports on the console although a couple have been took off on the 40GB console compared to the 60Gb console and you can hook up to the internet via the console, which I have done. The games online that I have are great and you can also download games/demos and other content via the network.
The consoel also plays blue ray dvd's, which I have not tried as I do not own any blue ray disc's, but I am happy with the PS3 so far, and my only negative point is what aload of people have already said, that you can't play PS2 games on it, but it is still, to me, worth a 5 out of 5!

Wicked FPS
Am loving this game!!! Brilliant online mode that forces teams to behave as teams, by the way the levels are designed, and the gold crate system works. The single player mode is great too...not too long (but then after clocking up 200ish hours on Oblivion, not much is!)but great fun, stuff to find...and plenty to shoot at. Review for Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3):
Very Good with a few irritations
I have given this game 5 stars but really I think it is somewhere in between a 4 and a 5. I'd give it a 9/10.

what this game does well it does superbly and I'm not going to go into detail because there are plenty of reviews doing that. the environment is stunning, the characters and acting are flawless, the internet is a great idea and works very well. The driving feels great. Mobile phone is excellent.

My only critisism is that you are encouraged to keep freinds happy to access thier special services, it puts a downer on the game. The activities involve some very poor side games like pool darts and bowling, all of which are awful, or driving miles to a restaurant or caberet which is repetative. I found myself wanting to unlock the second island and therefore wanting to work through missions and had no interest in keeping people happy at all. I think if the activities that you do with freinds were more varied and played better that idea would be ok maybe.

This may stop the game from being perfect in my opinion, but the overall experience is wonderful and immersive and a big improvement on the series without losing the GTA feel.

Buzz - Now without the tangled wires =D
Buzz is back to its best. The only real problem i have is the online only has a small amount of questions.

First off the best thing about it is the wireless controllers. Now i don't have to spend 5minutes before hand untangling the wires before i start.

I've also been on the PS store and theres already a few packs to download for cheap prices, so the amount of questions will only increase.

Its also been confirmed that a patch will hit this month giving it trophy support.

LEGO INDY PS3
I, like so many others have been eagerly awaiting this game what with the success of the Lego Star Wars franchise and my inner child yelling INDY!!!

This game has all the fun, excitement and tongue in cheek laughs you've come to except from the Lego series.

Unfortunatly it is bug ridden (most can be ignored) and far FAR to easy.
After playing for just (approx) 6 hours my girlfriend and I are already 50% through the game.

Worth a purchase, but be warned.

Review for Sid Meier's Civilization: Revolution (PS3):
Revolu ... yawn
This is a review for people who don't usually play games like Civ - Dev, not for any Civ fans or obsessives who can devote whole days and weeks to strategy games :) - it's just for people who've tried the demo.

To be fair this is not the usual type of game I like but after trying the demo from PSN I was surprised to see how involved I was in the game trying to get a Domination win before the demo ran out.

Once I managed that I got the full game and found that the demo length pretty much matched my attention level - once past that point I quickly started to find that with all the extra cities and units I'd made the whole game was more tedious than challenging. Development of cities just drags ('wonder' will be completed in in 73 turns ... etc. ) and the combat becomes a question of waiting and more waiting while you build bigger legions and catapults etc. , slowly move them around the map, and that's pretty much it.

And how come I can have a square filled with all kinds of warriors, archers, legions, catapults but when I attack a city they only do it one at a time? Unless I take the time, for example, to build catapult armies then any smaller units can just get wiped out one after the other no matter how many are there.

The graphics are far too childish - I'd expect them to be like this on the PSP not the PS3. It was Ok at first, but what's the point of having a machine that can do so much if you're going to waste it like this?

Ditto the voices of the characters - turned them off straight away

The rewards/gifts displays - didn't like them at all, more wasted programming - could have done FMV istead of copying the game style animation

The AI - found the random declarations of war to be strange (one turn you've just announced friendship then suddenly you're at war because you said no to one thing) and the statements from each leader to be extremely repetitive, just copied and pasted with minor variations.

Democracy - Not a serious one but - found it extremely annoying when this stopped me from my final attack because the"people wouldn't let me" - since when have democracies ever stopped leaders attacking places (didn't stop Tony and George did it?) ... so why can't I wipe out that city if I want to?

Anyway, I'm trading it in today.

Try renting before you buy :)

Review for Top Spin 3 (PS3):
Fun & Frustrating
If you loved 'Virtua Tennis 3' (which is arcadey & user friendly), you probably find this game frustrating. However if you're a huge tennis fan, you'll love this game (as it's pretty darn addictive) but kinda disappointed that the player roster is pretty poor.

Good:

1) Graphics - it's quite stunning, crowds look lifelike (& so does the players), there's also a nice touch of detail such as players gets dirty (especially they play on clay), sweat are sometimes visible, even the weather condition changes (like from sunny to cloudy) throughout the match. Obviously rain are excluded from the game, how annoying would it be if it starts chucking it down when you're serving the for the match?

What I enjoyed the most is playing on clay, where the players slide around on the court to reach for the ball.

2) Career mode - it's much more realistic than 'Virtua Tennis 3', as you start from being a nobody & build up to becoming a pro. Each time you win a match, points & experience will be unlocked for you to upgrade your player. However you only have a total of 320 experience points up upgrade you're created player's stats. So you can't surpass lvl 70. I think the reason behind this is that you can't top pro tennis stars, such as Federer (lvl 75) or Sharapova (lvl 74). Plus unlike 'Virtua Tennis 3' or 'Smash Court', you can set what difficulty lvl you want to play the whole campaign as (if you find it too easy, you can change the setting there & then to your preferred difficulty)

3) Player condition - I dunno, but I love the idea seeing besides the player's name that you'll see their heart rating (this is affected when playing in long rallies or chasing after the ball back & forth), this also affects the players current performance. This gives you a sense of realism.

4) Music/sound - unlike 'Virtua Tennis 3', music doesn't play during the match (again, giving a sense of realism). The game has a great (small) selection of songs, the downside is that the more you play the game, you tend to grow tired of certain songs & you can't switch it off (unless you mute your TV) & whenever you enter/exit a menu, the song changes (it becomes irritating). The crowd reacts to some major events, but sometimes they scream over nothing. I like the touch of fans cheering you on, quite subtle though.

5) Brands - not sure about you, but nothing looks better without official brand of clothing or equipments for your created players. The mall includes a Nike store, Adidas, Yonex, & in the global stores has another other common brands like Lotto & Fila.

6) Courts - even though Wimbledon is missing, every other court (believe me, there are LOADS) looks stunning, even though some courts are located near dirty streets. Each court carries different advantages & disadvantages, which is a nice touch by the developers.

Bad:

1) Player roster - to me, it seems like majority of tennis games are sexist, why? Why does every tennis game only include less than 10 female stars while more than 10 for the male stars? I thought 'Virtua Tennis 3' was bad with only 7 female players, but 'Top Spin 3' beat that record, with 5 (I'm excluding legendary player Seles & recently retired Justin Henin). If you look at the list of playable characters from exhibition mode, it doesn't look that bad, as you have more than 40 characters to choose from, but the problem lies in the 20+ characters are frauds, if you're a tennis novice, you'll be tricked that these players are real than fictional. It begs the question, if 'Top Spin 3' has that much capacity to have that many playable characters, why didn't they make a bit more effort & replace these fictional players with real life 1's?

Here's a list of the REAL life players (* are retired)

Men:
- Roger Federer
- Rafael Nadal (lucky us, this is exclusive to PS3 only)
- James Blake
- Gael Monfils
- David Nalbandian
- Mario Ancic
- Andrew Murray
- Andy Roddick
- Tomas Berdych
- Mark Philippoussis
- Tommy Haas
- Boris Becker*
- Bjorn Borg*

Women:
- Maria Sharapova
- Svetlana Kuznetsova
- Nicole Vaidisova
- Caroline Wozniacki
- Amelie Mauresmo
- Justine Henin* (I count her as retired, but when this game was made, she was still active)
- Monica Seles*

2) Controls - a bit irritating if you ask me, but I said the same thing for 'FIFA' series when they've changed the shooting & passing system. Instead of hitting the ball by simply tapping or holding a button, you have time you're shots & let go of the button at the right moment to return the shot, otherwise you'll completely miss the ball. 'Top Spin School' is apparent for those who has never played the game before & teaches everything you need to know, however I found it a waste of time, as it doesn't help at all. It's like a teacher patronising you telling you"Good" or"Excellent" even though you did completely rubbish. At 1 point I completely missed my serving target (which I have to add, is REALLY tough, it's nigh impossible to get an ace) but the game told me it was"Excellent".

Having said that, you're better off playing exhibition matches & eventually you'll get a hang of it (you won't be a pro within a week, I can assure you on that).

3) Created players - creating player is brilliant, however you only get 4 slots (meaning you can only create 4 players) plus you are ltd to enter no more than 10 characteristics, so if you're name exceed more than 10 letters, you're practically screwed. What's even worst is you can't vs. your created players (unlike 'Virtua Tennis 3' & 'Smash Court'), so it's either use him/her or don't at all. 2 reasons why this bother me;
A) If you created real life tennis stars, you can't vs. 'em without being them.
B) Future downloadable characters can only be chosen by pressing the start button & load them up, much similar to created players, so you can see the problem here, you (probably) can't vs. downloaded players either.

4) Wimbledon - in this game, Wimbledon is excluded (dunno why), instead they replaced the grass Grand Slam with Dublin! This is pretty silly.

To sum it up, if you're a not-a-huge tennis fan & prefer simplistic tennis, stick with 'Virtua Tennis 3'. If you a mad tennis fanatic & can endure frustration of the controls & able to wait for 2K sports to offer downloadable contents (such as new players & brand accessories), this is a game made for you.

Review for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3):
Gorgeous but shallow
This game delivers with its graphics and presentation, but overall I do not get the same enjoyment out of racing as I do with more arcadey racers. This game is more of a racing sim than a racing game. I suppose it is true to its heritage in that way.

Still, it is a great show off for the capabilities of the PS3, and there is some fun to be had. It is somehow quite relaxing to play too. Perhaps it's some of the soft jazz menu music.

Very Disapointed
In the run up to this game being released, i was very excited. I am a big fan of any olympic or track and field game and had been waiting 4 years for this one. I got the game from a local store on Friday and sat down ready to be amazed, however all i can say it that i was extremely disapointed!! I tried to get into the game over the next two days but the more i played it the more disapointing it got, I dont think the graphics are very good for a next generation game, plus the game play is boring, the controls are hard, and overall the games just seems to be missing something. Sadley i had to take this game back, it is a complete waste of money!! My advice is, dont bother buying it!

Review for Competition Pro Dual Controller Charging Dock (PS3):
Neat Unit
I bought this so we could charge 2 controllers whilst sitting at the computer - not as most people here have done ie plugged into the PS3. As the computer is on more than the PS3 it seemed more sensible to use it's power.

The unit is small and compact and works well. I've had no problems charging from the PC. As soon as the controllers are fully charged I remove them from the dock and pop it away. It only takes about an hour and a half to charge two which is great. Also it means I don't have to have the silly short-length usb wire that came with the PS3 in the way.

Definitely good value for money if you buy with something else and get free delivery.

I love this game....it looks great visually, the movements are amazing. Even the music adds to it all...exploring the cities you can almost taste the dust!

There is a lot of critism on the gameplay, but hats off to the developers for doing something completely different. I have never played anything like this before...the closest thing I can think of is KOTOR....?
People say the game is repetitive, but what game isn't? All FPS games are by their nature. All the assassination victims killings are different and you need different approach stategies to complete them.

My only worry is AC2 will be more of the same, as how can you expand an Assassins lifestyle in the Crusades period out anymore????

buy this if you dont already have it
this is simply the best game on ps3, offline is good with very nice visuals and the missions arnet so bad but this game really makes its name in online gameplay. it is immense. there are about 6 of each gun type except shotgun where there is only 2 not only is there this but gte a certain amount of k ills and you are awarded with gun attachments such as silencers and red dot sights. added on top of this is the headshot challenges. if you get a certain amount of headshots with a gun you get soecialized camo for it. they are ( in order of how you aquire them) digital(25) blue tiger(75) red tiger(150) one more thing about the gun modification is that when you complete every gun of one class ( ie all camo and attachments for the assault class) one of the guns become available in gold plateing which is unbearably cool.
one more thing about this game is that i advise you to buy the map pack off the playstation store, 4 extra maps for online play and they are all pretty damn good

Haze (PS3)

Our Price: £39.99 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details & conditions
Used Price: £24.99
New Price: £22.99

Review for Haze (PS3):
2008's Biggest Disappointment
Early previews of Haze, (the once promising but heavily delayed PS3 exclusive) seemed to give away all its secrets.
Sadly there are no twists or surprises for anyone that has paid attention to Hazes excessive previews. The much publicised defection to the rebels; Promise Hand would have been far more enjoyable without prior knowledge. The twists following are non-existent, with only a discovery in a cargo container providing any highlight for lead Shane Carpenter.

From the opening moment, Hazes visuals are disappointingly shoddy; the jungles look weak, especially when compared to Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. Its laughable this is the best Free Radical could manage. There is nothing here, apart from a few fancy, pointless graphical effects that couldn't have been done on the previous generation.
The animation is also a joke, especially when reviving a fallen comrade. Bodies also levitate in mid air. Vehicle sections are just awful, so broken they should have been left out entirely.
In fact only the shooting is solid throughout; and in parts above average. But surely this is to be expected from the makers of TimeSplitters. Strangely, Haze doesent have a very large weapon selection.

The whole game would be seamless if it wasn't for split second blackouts that occur after every"cut scene". This is one of Hazes most frustrating elements and clearly used to hide loading times. Rather than use cut scenes to set up the story, Haze insists on telling every scrap of narrative from Shane Carpenters eyes. This can work, as Half Life 2 proved. But the plot is clunky and amateurish at best, the half second blackouts completely ruining any immersion this approach so desperately tries to create.
There are too many moments where a cut scene would have worked better. And they can't be skipped, much like Assassins Creed. In the days of Call of Duty 4 and Bioshock, where so much is experienced by the player, these forced"cut scenes" feel prehistoric.

The voice acting and sound is also a major failing. Carpenter has a different accent in-game to the demo video shown. The same, quotes are used every couple of seconds."This way", and"No surrender" are heavily overused. By far the most cringe worthy however:
"Is there a medal for being the most bad ass gangster, cause that me".
Even worse is the fact many quotes are used by both Mantel and Promise Hand. It's only a small point, but when both sides are spouting the same macho cliché, it's difficult to believe they are fighting for anything different. Music is average at best.

In the early levels whilst fighting for Mantel, it's even obvious when there are no enemies, as the gun disappears from screen. For me this ruined any tension or suspense.
Early previews also suggested that overusing Nectar can lead to hallucinations and side effects, with Carpenter struggling to separate friend from foe. This does sound exciting, yet my first overdose happened without having used Nectar?? This section was even played twice, with it happening at EXACTLY the same point. So nowhere near as subtle or refined as Free Radical have suggested. Nectar is even too scripted to be considered a game-play mechanic. Its also a massive disappointment. The yellow glow caused by this drug is essential to even see the enemy. There are some nice touches, like when on Nectar; the sniper aim is much steadier.
Landmines are very well designed. The levels, most notably the cargo ship have flashes of brilliance. But sadly this is too little, far too late for such a high profile game.

Switching sides thankfully provide new gameplay options, but Haze remains a mediocre experience. New options include the ability to play dead. Nectar grenades can also be removed from Mantel soldiers and used as a chemical weapon.
The games climax (aboard the Mantel Land Carrier) had the potential, in spite of everything to give Haze a memorable climax. Yet, much like the rest of the game, it disappoints in a big way. Once aboard, the level involves lots of backtracking, with atrocious signposting and design. Example; wandering back to the start of the level, and finding (purely by chance) that a door has now opened. The ending is also abrupt and unsatisfying for such a narrative driven game. In fact, many levels end abruptly, leaving the impression large chunks have been removed to finally get Haze on the shelves.
Haze would have been a terrible game if it had arrived suddenly and without hype. It just hurts when such a big game fails to deliver, once again.
