Review for Devil May Cry 4 (PS3):
Devil May Button-Bash
I was very sceptical about buying this game so I rented it for one week. I have bitter-sweet feelings about this game to be honest. To reiterate other reviewers' gripes about repetitive enemies - yes, this is an issue. If one was to plummet off a ledge and end up in a previous room, the same old baddies would spring back to life and to make things worse, the game also locks you in a lot of the time even if you have already cleared the area once so you can't simply run off. I am not even half way through and I am finding this tedious. Graphically it is OK. I expect good graphics from my PS3 and this is the minimum quality I would expect but I am not blown away by them. The music and cheesy lines are as repetitive as the enemies. He does get on my nerves with his cheesy one-liners after the umpteenth time of hearing them. As for storyline, I haven't got a clue. There is this young lad with a dodgy arm who appears to have gone OTT with the peroxide, an angry bloke and a squealing young woman who are all having a bit of a to-do over God knows what. I have never played any Devil May Cry before so I selected 'Human' mode (for newbies) as oppose to 'Devil Hunter'and it's a good job because the moves are so complex they make my head spin. I cannot remember so many different combinations of button pressing. Luckily there is an automatic option which enables the novice to execute fancy combos by erm, button bashing away at any old attack button and I press all of the buttons all the time i.e. button bashing and the bad guys die in spectacular fashion (until now because I am stuck on an unbeatable boss). I am starting to gain some control over what this young whipper snapper Nero does but it's tricky and he is quite skitterish to control and there are so many moves one could perform but the player is not given 'thinking time'. There is also a complicated status area on the screen but I am not too sure what it all means just yet. Something about petrol I think. I am not a big fighting game fan and this does err to the combat side more than puzzles/exploration. There are some quiet moments in the game (when you are stuck in one room) and a few easy puzzles to break up the bashing. The game utilizes every available button for bashing on, even the select button is used to kick folk with. I am sure there are people out there who know all the moves like biffa-bonka bashing table roller or whatever they are called but my mind is too slow and maybe I am too old (at 34) for this game. It is confusing trying to work out how pressing triangle four times differs from pressing triangle three times then pressing triangle. The mind boggles. To summarize: Not a dreadful game by any means and I have enjoyed playing it over the last few days but I think Nero needs a chill pill and maybe a nice sit down with a cuppa and a book (or is that me?). I can see why perhaps some people love this franchise as I love my Silent Hill games and maybe I will buy it second hand in a year or so and have another go. If anybody is uncertain as I was then I would strongly recommend a weeks rental on it. A week is probably long enough to complete it anyway. Oh, there are lots of colourful glowing things to collect which are fun because you can buy nice, helpful things with them. I am sure I haven't given away any plot spoilers for this game because I don't know what the plot is anyway!43

Review for Race Driver: GRID (PS3):
In the career mode GRID World, simple aspects are introduced, such as choosing sponsors and selecting a team mate. This is all done in a fashion not to overwhelm the player. One great innovation in GRID world is the fact that progression is entirely dependant on the player There are a total of 51 trophies to win, spread across Japanese, US & European racing. an almost unlimited amount of Driver Offers, where specific criteria has to be met in order to win the cash.
Purists may complain there isnt more to tinker with, as all management is done above the bonnet; but this is all about fun.
Not every event in GRID has to be won. For example, if Drift isnt your thing then the whole section can be ignored and reputation points earned elsewhere. As your fame increases, through reputation points, so does your surroundings. Grids menu system is one of the most streamlined I've ever seen. Everything feels like a physical part of the world, viewed from inside the team garage. The whole thing is incredibly detailed.
One of GRIDs most innovative features is the ability to rewind crashes. A superb feature, one that can be again ignored, but helps prevent habitual replays. It doesent destroy the tension or that sense of accomplishment. The graphics are sensational, particularly in HD.
Just buy.

The Best Racer Available
The best racer available. Race Driver: GRID places its focus on actual racing, and feels refreshing as a result. Simulation-heavy games like Gran Turismo are nothing like GRIDS arcade approach. In fact its difficult to pinpoint exactly why GRID is such a good racer. It could be because it takes aspects other racers and mixes them all together. Review for Virtua Tennis 3 (PS3):
The graphics are good, but not great. The mini-games are fairly amusing, but not addictive. Career mode is boring, because as a beginner there are very little tournaments to enter. Tournament mode is very unrealistic, and half of the time every time you take a shot you have to dive for it.
This is not the greatest game, but it's not the worst. If your a big tennis fan, then is the game for you. But for me - 3/5.

Good fun but not as good as star wars
I have recently bought this as I am a big fan of Lego Star Wars. Its a good game but doesnt really add much to the existing franchise. Its great to have some fresh levels and characters to get stuck into and there are some nice touches but it doesnt bring anything new. It is however, great fun for all ages and backgrounds. Its definitely worth buying, especially if you enjoy Indi films and the star wars lego game.48

I will keep it short. My sony ericson bluetooth headset for my mobile phone is better than this which cost £10. If you can get the PS3 password for bluetooth headsets then you can use almost anything (think its 0001 or 0123, something like that, check website).49
Review for Rock Band - Solus (PS3):
Bit of advice when you first get the box. The guitar needs some force to clip the head onto the neck ... this is normal apparently. The drum kit itself is excellent quality and comes complete with real wooden drumsticks. They set up nicely and sitting on a simple desk chair will suffice to play it. The microphhone is also good quality so overall in terms of periphherals I was really impressed.
Once the game was loaded it was simple to select the tutorials and I was able to make my way through the tutorials fairly easily, finding the drumming much easier than guitar work. I have to say the tutorials are reall 'cool' with all the language and rock cliche's you'd expect right down to the crazy rack band finishes. I've only had Rock Band for 4 days now but I am having a lot of fun. However I can imagine I'm going to get bored sooner than I thought (Never had Guitar Hero's to compare with) BUT and this is a BIG BUT when you havve some friends over it becomes intensely competative and great fun. Sometimes you actually start to think you could do this for real *grin*.

Review for Battlefield: Bad Company (PS3):
However, now the classic Conquest mode has landed on the scene my opinion has changed and my hours gaming has increased. This is what Battlefield has always been about - freedom to do what you want to do - not to be told whether you must attack or defend! And the whole destructive environment adds a whole new exciting dimension to the gameplay.
Squad play has improved but not massively - you don't get to choose your squad and there is no communication, be it voice or message comms. There's still big room for improvement but hopefully these points will be addressed in further updates/releases.
With dedicated no lag servers, thousands of players online and more maps on the way, the future is looking bright for Battlefield on the PS3!

CONQUEST MAKES IT WORTHWHILE
Initially I was a little dissapointed with Bad Company... after playing Battlefield over the years on the PC I was hoping for more of the same...but the Gold Rush mode just didn't do it for me. I thought it was way too streamlined to be of the Battlefield genre - too much intense, linear game play that didn't really give you much choice for strategy or squad play. However, now the classic Conquest mode has landed on the scene my opinion has changed and my hours gaming has increased. Review for Call of Duty 3 (PS3):
The missions are your typical COD missions but with more realism. There are also some fun driving levels where you can opt to use the SIXAXIS controller motion sensors ability. You are also required to use the motion sensor function for hand to hand combat with german soldiers and for setting fuses on demolition charges at various points throughout the game. It's more of a novel inclusion than anything that fun.
What really does it for this game is the fantastic online multiplayer. Since i finished the single player game, i have spent many hours playing online. The best multiplayer mode is WAR. In this mode you must battle with your team to take over all the stategic points (flags) on the map. Don't worry though, the standard death-match and team death-match are also included.
The only bad thing i can say about this game is that your squad members still sometimes block your way in door ways. You'd think this problem should have been put to bed ny now.
Overall though, this is a great, fun FPS. If your a long time fan of WWII FPS or a new one, i definately recommend this game.

A Great WWII FPS
This is the first game i bought for my new PS3. As a long time fan of WWII shooters, which started off with the original Medal of Honor game on the PS1, i was really looking forward to playing the genre on the PS3 for the first time. What can i say...I was not disappointed. The single player game is extremely good and the gun sound, AI and tactics are all much improved. I have to say that I was blown away by the graphics on some of the levels; the lighting, particle and texture was simply amazing! The missions are your typical COD missions but with more realism. Great instead of blutooth headset
I bought this camera a few weeks ago and it's great! I bought three games from PSN and they are great fun with the camera. When you wave your arms infront of it the camera picks it up so well, even the tiny movements. And lets not forget the built in microphone. I use it for online play and it works fine, if you have this you do not need a headset as the mic is great. The software you get bundled with it is also a great piece of kit. 5 STARS54
Review for Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy (PS3):
The game is based around the first movie, the 'Bourne Identity', with flashbacks to what Bourne was doing before he lost his memory that weren't in the film. The characters aren't based on their film counterparts, with completely new faces being used throughout, which I thought very strange. (Maybe Damon didn't want anything to do with it, can't blame him really!)
The game is passable. Short, sometimes repetitive with a below average ending. The fighting is fun, but again repetitive. One major issue I had with the game was the driving sequence (only happens once, and is available in the demo). In short, it's pants. It's like they were almost finished making it and thought"Ooh, we'd better add a driving section".
It's a shame really, there are some great concepts in here, but all have been underdeveloped. It had the potential to live up to the movies but just didn't quite do so, on any level. I'm a little disappointed at spending £40 on 5hrs of game, that I would not play again.
I think rent it. Complete it. And forget it.

Review for Sid Meier's Civilization: Revolution (PS3):
If you are a devotee of the previous Civilisation games then do not assume that this is a games console version of the same. It is not. In my opinion the game is"dumbed down", being far shorter, offering far less options and being less involved. Other reviews call the game"Civilisation Light" and I think this tag is an appropriate one.
However, is this a bad thing? Not necessarily - if you want a"quick" game (i.e. a few hours) rather than a epic marathon struggle lasting days then it is still a turn based strategy game with a lot to offer.
For my 10 year old son it has introduced him to the strategy game genre, and he loves it. In time I'll move him on to the more involved PC versions. The graphics are colourful and engaging for the younger audience - the animated units means that battles have some interest for the console generation. My son's friend remarked,"I thought this would be boring, but it looks quite good."
So for experienced strategists - take it for what it is, but as a game to interest younger players or convert new audiences to the strategy genre then a worthy purchase. As with any game, download and try the demo first before you part with your cash.
Main criticisms - the in-game advisors and leaders. They appear constantly (you can't switch them off) and repeat the same gibberish in"sim-speak" over and over. Within minutes it becomes tedious. Also the game has frozen several times and I've had to reset the console - very annoying when you've been playing for a few hours and you lose all your progress. I presume this a problem with the game, as I've had no problems with any other titles.

Review for Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3):
The story is reasonable all the way through, but the whole game starts off very slowly and is incredibly easy to begin with. I actually found it pretty boring for the first few levels as all the missions were so short and simple. There was always a feeling of 'is that it?'
However, it does get much, much better as you get into it and it becomes quite frantic and challenging, especially near the end which I have to say was actually quite hard. Definatley doable, but I was suprised how quickly the difficulty ramped up.
Everything about the game works ok. The engine is good, although it does feel quite strange and light at first. Think more Unreal Tournament (But slower) than COD4. The Weapons are excellent, and improve as the game goes on, but the enemies do get a bit samey and although they look unique, behave in a very similar way, and have a very similar pecking order to those in Halo. Very similar. The AI is also reasonbly good, but not groundbreaking at all.
Obviously this is the PS3s answer to Halo and on the comparison front it does pretty well. It has all the enemies, weapons and gameplay to match Halo, but its just missing the atmosphere. The basic premise of the story has you (Hale) as an American Soldier that has been mildly infected with the Chimera (Opposing alien factions) disease. Yet nothing is really made of this apart from the fact that it means you can take more hits than a regular soldier. There are brief scenes every now and then outlining his struggle with the disease but nowhere near enough, and so there is very little character development with the main character.
There is also a lack of decent non player characters. There is one that is okay, some British soldier guy, but you never really get much info on him.
I think the game suffers from being based around missions. The beauty of Halo was that it was just one long game, so it kind of felt like you were in a sci fi movie. This constantly reminds you that you are playing a game though and so any kind of suspended belief is destroyed.
All in all, its an excellent bog standard fps if you see what I mean. As good as they get. It just doesnt really leave you with a great sense of satisfaction after you've completed it as you never felt you were truly engaged in the story.

Review for TNA Impact (PS3):
1 - Everything gets reversed that you attempt, all the time. I dont mind somebody reversing me, but not every move. And this was playing on easy. I have spoken with friends who also bought this game and thats their biggest problem as well.
2 - Season mode is terrible, you can't even play as TNA wrestlers.
3 - In Ultimate X matches, your opponents just watch you climb the ropes and win the match.
4 - The pin and roll out of the ring buttons are the same, meaning when you pin near the ropes you more often than not roll out of the ring.
5 - There are virtually no moves and everybody seemingly has the same moves.
There are lots more negatives but I hope that the five listed above will be enough to convince you not to waste your money on this game. What is even more concerning is, is that in the end credits one of the developers actually says with a straight face that he believes TNA Impact to be the best wrestling game out there. Unreal. I came in to this game hoping it would improve on the decent SVR 2008 game, when in reality, it isn't half the game SVR 08 is.
I have always been a critic of the season mode in SVR, but TNA impact's effort makes SVR seem like greatness. I wanted to like this game as mentioned but just can't. Avoid this game at all costs.

Review for TNA Impact (PS3):
Very Dissaponiting
As a huge fan of wrestling I really wanted to like his game even though I had my reservations going in. Sadly the game is terrible. I can honestly say the only good part of the game are the graphics. Here are all the bad things:1 - Everything gets reversed that you attempt, all the time.

Review for FIFA 08 (PS3):
First, FIFA 08 bring the new be a pro mode which allows you to control 1 player on the pitch and get match ratings and advice. The camera angles is good but it gets frustating when you don't have the ball though. Another dissapointment is the Arena Mode. There is no way to really perfect your free kick technique because in the Arena Mode, free kick practice involves no wall. Also, in a match while taking a close up free kick the keeper stays more on the side where the wall isn't. This is silly because it's hard to get the ball over the wall and under the post and the keeper almost always saves it if you put it on the other side. The power bar doesn't feel right to me either. Maybe, I'm used to Pro but on close up free kicks, if u tap circle it will hit the wall, if you hold it, it will go over the bar.
The last fifa I played before this was fifa 06 and I think fifa 08 is much worse for the time Ea have had to fix its flaws. First, the keepers are terrible. Their positioning is awful and a lot of the time they get lobbed at corners. Also, their reflexes are almost zero. Say I was to head the ball onto the post, the keeper will dive 2 seconds after it hit the post which is so stupid. In addition goalkeepers almost always concede when a winger runs down the flank and passes it to the striker on the floor who always scores. This is so unrealistic. The keeper never savers which is pretty darn stupid. Also, during goal kicks or free kicks when you want to pass to a player the opponent can move and intercept and it diesturbs why a team mate would want to pass to the opposition It is also impossible to score headers against the computer yet the computer scores at ease from headers and they always seems to have 85% passing.
Passing is also flawed too. Say you want to pass to a player ahead first time. Half the time the player will take a touch so the opportunity to pass is gone. Also, when you are trying to go for an X button tackle, your player seems to pass the ball to nobody. Passing to your own players can be a chore. Especially in advanced attacking positions you pass to a player. Then you want to control the player who is going to receive the ball to run towards the ball. But when you do so, the player runs away and it feels as if I don't have full control of my players. Henry's left foot can score some spectacular goals with the CPU but with me, the keeper easily saves. The game also seems to have pre-determined matches. When I play against Barcelona on world class, I have never won. Once, I was Man United and it was 1-1 during extra time. Eto'o as through on goal in the 119th minute but I fouled him with Evra who was sent off. Ronaldinho then scored the most immaculate free kicks which gives the impression that had i let Eto'o through he would've scored anyway and that I was delaying the inevitable. So games in FIFA 08 are pre-determined quite alot of the time like professional wrestling.
One final thing is penalties which are god damn awful. The keepers can move fully from left to right. This annoys me alot online. For example say you power up a penalty, it takes a second to take the shot. when the power is done the player online can move to one side. When you have decided shot power you can't change the direction. The other player online can move to one side after shot power has been done and you can't change where the ball is going to go so alot of the time penalties are saved. This does not reflect real life because if the keeper moves to one side at any point before the shot is taken the penalty kick taker can change where the shot is going. Not in FIFA. So penalty shootouts boil down to luck and cheats rather than pure skill.
I know all my comments so far on FIFA has been negative but there are some good points. It's got all the licenses in a football games which gives the game authenticity. One thing it has over Pro is that you can't easily race through defences with fast players so it's quite realistic in that sense. However, some player are gods for example Cristiano Ronaldo is so fast and ferdinand, vidic and terry are defending gods. Evra is almost unbeatable at left back but bar those exceptions no-one is god in the game.
FIFA 08 is an Ok game but 06 was better for its time. 08 has just better graphics and reviewers have been blinded by Ea's big name in industry.
As for the Pes vs FIFA argument, Pes is better despite its disastrous showing on PS3. People are saying this game is getting better, but it's still the same slow, unresponsive playing FIFA you've been playing for years. Not going to buy FIFA again unti I see change. 09 is supposed to be better, but didn't they say the same for 08?

Review for Colin McRae: DIRT (PS3):
And overall I'm over the moon with it, some of the levels are hair tearingly hard, but oh so gratifying when you get them right!
The sense of speed is fantastic, the handling just right, Codemasters have done a great job with this!
My only complaint, where is Nicky Grist! I can't stand the voice for the co-driver, he really grates!
I'm about 60% through the game and I'm looking forward to the rest of it, although I would love to get higher up the world ranking on at least one level, before the end of the year.
One last things, thank heavens that the controls haven't been fiddled with, I can use the right analogue for Braking & Acceleration! Brilliant!
