Logitech Cordless Desktop MX5500 Revolution

New Price: £91.77

Review for Logitech Cordless Desktop MX5500 Revolution:
Beware of this combo.
I received my MX5500 Revolution yesterday and have tried to get the thing to work properly ever since.
The setpoint software that arrives with the package does not work. I spent a good hour on the phone with the techies from Logitech, tried a few things to correct the fault and nothing helped.
Then I was informed that it is a known problem and they are working to fix it.
Also the mouse works all right for a while and then becomes very sluggish and jittery, every time I boot up my computer I have to change the mouse settings using the Windows Vista Control Panel.
Do not buy this lump of plastic.
I gave it 2 stars because it is a pretty lump of plastic.

SONY ICF-S79V Splash Resistant Multi-Band Shower Radio

New Price: £34.69

Review for SONY ICF-S79V Splash Resistant Multi-Band Shower Radio:
Excellent product
I have had a number of shower radios none of which have worked properly. Mostly, the problem relates to the aerial and sound quality. This is the exception and I am very pleased with this product. No hissing to speak of and the controls are quite intuitive. I would definitely recommend it.

PURE Elan RV40, Portable Stereo DAB/FM Digital Radio with ReVu™

New Price: £49.90

Review for PURE Elan RV40, Portable Stereo DAB/FM Digital Radio with ReVu™:
Absolutely brilliant, don't hesitate!
We all know PURE pretty much invented the portable DAB radio and reviewers are never slow to point out that PURE sets tend to sound much better than the competition. This is equally true of the new PURE Elan RV40 which is truly one of the best I've heard - and it looks more like a conventional radio too (sleek dark grey case) rather than those strange wood and plastic boxes that PURE tend to churn out - and which I don't like at all. The controls are not exactly intuitive, but with a bit of thought and practise (read the manual first!) they soon become second nature. The sound is really clean and crisp and surprisingly full - and you can crank it up pretty loud too, unlike many other"tinny"-sounding portables. I have had absolutely NO problems whatsoever with DAB sound even though the reception is supposed to be patchy in my neck of the woods. FM reception is first class too and the pause/rewind of live radio is a neat and useful feature. Add to that the inclusion of a snooze button, and you have a brilliant sounding and well-equipped portable radio. I am super-fussy about gadgets like these, but this is absolutely wonderful and I recommend it without hesitation. I also managed to find a dealer on Amazon selling it at approximately £30 less than John Lewis!!!

New Price: £21.99

Review for Sony ICF-C273L Clock Radio:
not very practical
My main complaint is that to turn the alarm off you have to fiddle around to try and find the tiny 'off' button.
Also annoying that you can't completely turn off the display, which is always very bright.
sound quality is not too great either

Labtec media wireless desktop 800

New Price: £7.50

Review for Labtec media wireless desktop 800:
Disappointing range (approx 1 meter)
The labtec media wireless desktop turned up quickly and in good condition, but I was very disappointed by the range over which they operate. (unfortunately the tech spec on Amazon didn't list the range).

It's fine if you want to keep your mouse and keyboard close to your computer (or less than a meter away) - but no good if you are wanting to operate over longer distances (unless you fancy trailing the reciever out onto a USB extention line - which kind of defeats the purpose)

High Quality 100W Step Down USA to UK voltage converter

New Price: £9.99

Review for High Quality 100W Step Down USA to UK voltage converter:
Great at the price - but keep within limits
I moved back from the US to the UK with a lot of electrical equipment.
I purchased a few of these units.
Anything electrical , without a motor is generally okay.
If you're running, for example, a motor or a big amplifier, then do some more research to make sure that this is good enough.
I'm down to 2 having tried it with a couple of kitchen-based electrical items, and them hearing a pop, and then smelling burning.
It has uni-directional screws, so if you blow it, you blow it.
Do some internet research to ocnfirm your power requirement - not just the wattage.
If you work it out (I'm still uncertain), then you're on for a cheap winner.
The Maplin version is twice the price and exactly the same.
5 stars if the fuse in the plug did anything useful.

Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 Speaker Dock and Clock Radio with iPod Dock (Black)

Our Price: £60.00 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details & conditions
New Price: £59.99

Review for Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 Speaker Dock and Clock Radio with iPod Dock (Black):
Great
Thanks to the very specific reviews on Amazon in respect of looking for the Mk2 (thanks guys on .com) I took a leap of faith and bought this, and I'm glad to say it has delivered what I needed for my iPhone 3G.

I hate having to faff-around and was in the position of having to remove the silicone skin I have on the phone to put it into the 3G dock at night (even though it is quite thin). For me it's rendered the official dock (and extra cost!) rather obsolete but that's another story...

The adjustable wheel on this Sony has solved the problem and has allowed me to listen to all my podcasts easily.

Functionality to drive the phone through the remote control is better than expected and it charges fine.

The unit itself gives good sound quality (for the price) and has all of the functions you need in a clock radio.

To be fair, the overall design is a bit odd - it does look top heavy and I can understand why people may suspect instability - although I've applied pressure to a number of points and it seems ok. The top controls could probably do with some livening up colour wise, if I had to be picky.

The backlight is probably on a par with my old Phillips unit. Yes it's quite bright (although adjustable in three steps) but personally this doesn't bother me a jot.

Everything considered, a great little purchase.

New Price: £45.87

Review for Logitech MX1000 Wireless Laser Mouse:
Both dock and buttons failed
A good mouse whilst it works, but after about a year the charging dock started failing to connect to the mouse properly. Another year later and the left mouse button no longer works properly - it double or triple or even 25-clicks when you touch it sometimes. I've got mice that still work 20 years later, so this is a pretty poor effort. It hasn't even had much use because I've been away a lot - it still looks brand new to the eye.

Sony ICF-SW7600GR World Radio

Our Price: £105.80 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details & conditions
New Price: £95.99

Review for Sony ICF-SW7600GR World Radio:
Dont underestimate it
back in 1986 i bought one of the first PLL digital read out SW scanners .. the 7600D. i call it a scanner as thats what it does. ive just bought the latest & apparently the last in the line of SW radios to be made by Sony. its a shame. i think the radio still has a way to go .. and this is surprising after 20 years on. my impression of the GR model is much the same. the memories are now 100 compared to ten back in 86. the selectivity is better on the GR model by far. SSB resolution is much better & the BFO arrangement works much better .. but the step tuning still stinks. for me SW & AM listening needs good tuning .. but the Sony fails somewhat.
saving your favorite FQY is a shame when returning u have to select the mode .. AM SSB USB LSB ??? too many options. not fast.too much switching.
The selectivity / filtering on AM is much better on the GR radio. comparing the old & new u can easily hear the filter working ... which makes listening of 2 close signals easier on the ears. the sensitivity is about the same .. still requiring a better outside aerial to improve things ... but thats not a big deal here. even taking the radio outside helps but is not the complete cure. VHF fm band is still wide like the old model .. but being wide will give better FQY response.
overall the radio is good. i trust in the Sony as a SW radio. its a solid radio .. not too big .. but not quite small enough to take in your pocket. the color scheme being silver makes a change from the laid back mid-grey color of my 7600D. the case is rounded & handling the radio is has a soft feel. the"lock" is handy when in transit .. as is the dial lamp. personally ive never used the alarm. the clock requires no extra batteries as the early version did & ive read the memories stay saved when the batteries are taken out. i use NI-MH AA cells so theres no interference from a dc adaptor. the aerial does wobble on the case so im hoping it doesnt fall off.
MY VERDICT :
my old 7600D impressed me. for a radio of this size .. being portable gave incredible good results. the 7600GR model is very similar. it appears much the same but with some improvements. it does have a kind of fast & slow tuning albeit stepping. in fine tune mode u can still hear the radio .. it doesn't cut out .. but in fast mode it does .. which is the drawback. the button layout is ok .. but the curved tuning is a bit weired. there is really nothing to compete with the Sony. id but another in an instant. IMO id recommend it. - Dont underestimate it !

Sony ICF-SW12S Compact World Band Travel Radio

Our Price: £49.99 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details & conditions
New Price: £49.99

Review for Sony ICF-SW12S Compact World Band Travel Radio:
Just what I was looking for
As I travel a lot and like to listen to world service I was looking for a small portable radio, with a built in alarm clock but which also received short wave. Thats easier said than done as radios seem to have gone out of fashion and everyone seems to sell gadgets with too many features. This radio fitted my requirements perfectly, its lightweight, tiny, folds in 2 so is more resistant to falling on the floor, has a little snooze light so you can check the time in the dark and gets excellent short wave reception. You don't even have to change the time as you tell it the time zone and the time adujsts automatically.

What I really liked is that everything is manual, no annoying electronic features that take you 4 hours reading the manual. The sound quality is also very good for such a small device and certainly sufficent for world service, though probably not for someone who really wants to focus on music. I bought this for a studying holiday in Rome and it really served its purpose of allowing me to listen to the local radio and foreign stations, it now travels with me everywhere. The only negative point I can think of is that the noise of the alarm is very irritating but then perhaps its supposed to be.

Roberts MP-23 (MP-Sound 23) Home Audio System

New Price: £204.99

Review for Roberts MP-23 (MP-Sound 23) Home Audio System:
Good Looking & Good Sounding
Very well made, nicely finished & quite compact, this CD DAB table-top combination looks & sounds the business.
DAB reception is excellent with the attached unexpanded aerial as is FM. The unit quickly finds all the major stations & locks into the signals very well.

The sound from the radio (DAB & FM) is very good; warm & full sounding with voices being easy to follow.

Sound from the CD is OK but suffers a little in the way of timing & the fact the MP23 has a tendency to `over-cook' the base which can't be turned down. The only really effective equalizer pre-set (Rock) simply makes the music - including the base - go louder.

Volume is very good though, with the ability to go quite loud without distorting the music & the stereo effect is good with speakers at either end of the unit.

The remote is small & compact but don't loose it as most of the MP23's functionality is controlled via it!

Three small gripes: the headphone socket is at the back of the unit when it should be at the front or side for easy access (Roberts should know that by now!)

The blue light on the display is quite bright & can't be turned off or even dimmed. This would be a problem if used in a bedroom.

Other minor gripe? The colour or rather lack of choice. Most people will use this in their bedroom or kitchen & the piano black finish won't suit everyone. My wife, for example, wanted a wood finish to match our kitchen cabinets.

All in all a very good system; it can't replace my mid price ROKSAN Candy amp & CD player but it costs about 1/10 of them if you include decent speakers.

For everyday listening the Roberts MP23 is an excellent compromise between size, cost & sound quality.

Recommended.

TeckNet MT-051 Apple iPod FM and Remote Control

New Price: £2.99

Review for TeckNet MT-051 Apple iPod FM and Remote Control:
Good Remote, bad speaker...
I bought this item, thinking that it will have an speaker and a remote for my iPod, it did.
After a couple of weeks, although I did not increase the volume to the maximum level, the speaker stopped working, but the remote still worked.
I asked for a replacement, thinking that maybe there was a problem with the product, they sent me the replacement, it was working again, but the same thing happened after a couple of weeks, so I asked for another replacement, I did this for about 3 times.
After that, they said send it to us and we will see what the problem was, they think I am an idiot, well if you think about it, it will cost me more than the products price to send it to them, so I did not send them, but I thought, if they sent me another, it will have the same problem.
So, do not, I repeat, do not buy this product if you are looking for speaker and remote in one, it is a good piece of kit for a remote, if you are looking for a remote but no speaker, then this is for you.
I gave this two stars because of the remote...

New Price: £44.49

Review for iLuv i552 - Portable iPod Speaker System With AM/FM Radio - Black:
Excellent piece of equipment
This is a really good item of kit. The Ipod sits comfortably in the dock thanks to the range of docks supplied, the sound is really good with plenty of base and the radio is excellent allowing for 10 pre-set stations.

It needs a lot of C2 batteries to be completely portable but as you are likely to want this facility only occasionally this is not a problem. The one drawback is the rather heavy transformer which is a separate item but on the other hand it means that this amount of weight is removed from the system if you wish to carry it and use it as a portable item.

I give it 5 stars and will probably purchase a second one.

New Price: £89.99

Review for Pure Digital Oasis VL-60775 Rechargable Weatherproof Dab Radio:
I have got gadget love for this DAB and I am a lady
This radio is a friend to our home, well-designed and robust and you can take it anywhere. Since it is 'weatherproof' it is great to be able to have it in the bathroom and not worry about the damp. Because of the built-in battery pack you can either listen to it plugged in, or carry it around the house/garden. Nice and easy to use, neat controls, good sound for its size. Nice big handle on the top for carting it about. I reckon 15 hrs playing time on a fully-charged battery is about right. I did loads of research, there are hardly any DABs with built-in battery pack. Otherwise it looks like if you want a portable, you would quite likely be faffing about with batteries of funny sizes and/rechargers, or trying to buy a Chargepack which people seem to be saying aren't very good and also seem to be very hard to get hold of (maybe the two are connected.) This is not for you if you are looking for something little and light because it is chunky - it depends what you want. The charger lead is strangely weedy but it is not really a matter of any importance. You can also buy a gadget for charging it up in your car too if you want to take it away on a trip, plus it has a USB port.

Philips AJ100/05 Clock Radio

New Price: £19.99

Review for Philips AJ100/05 Clock Radio:
not bad
The sound is okay (and, while it is indeed okay, read this in terms of radio alarm clocks). The 'gentle wake' system sounds good but the reality is limited. I'd imagined waking to the gradually increasing volume of the radio but instead, it only works on the alarm, which is something of an old-school alarm clock buzzer getting slightly more frenetic. The radio presets are on the side, which is not ideal, though it depends how much you change them. You can alter the display and dim or turn off the backlight (reviewers of certain other clock radios seem to be having tape over over-bright displays). While turning the display off is useful, it's a shame there aren't more steps in the brightness cycle, so you could adjust to your own sense of how much light you'd like while sleeping. So, overall, sound isn't bad, you can see the display without it seeming like daylight. It's a neat, compact unit and seems not bad for the price. However, these surely must only be entry level criteria for a radio alarm clock, it seems like some serious evolution is required in the field.

Bush PSDAB2004 Personal DAB Radio

New Price: £55.94

Review for Bush PSDAB2004 Personal DAB Radio:
Useful radio........
I paid less than 20 pounds for this, from a large branch of a well known supermarket who were obviously trying to get rid of them.

I like the rubberised case, but like others would prefer the headphone socket at the top, so can put in a shirt pocket. Lack of power adaptor not such a problem. It says 4 volts, but will work fine on 3 volts. I paid 8 pounds for a suitable mains adaptor from a certain High St electrical retailer. It takes the same sized 'tip' as my Sony radio, but plug is at a different polarity. The annoying thing is that when used with a mains adaptor, the backlight stays on all the time, there is no option to turn it off.

I use rechargable batteries for everything. I put in 2 fully charged 2000mA 'AA's and got 5 hours of them before the radio died: not too bad. Shame there is no facility to recharge batteries using the mains adaptor like on some other pocket radios, as annoying to keep having to take them out every day or so to recharge. In my locality, there are a few 'dead' spots where DAB fails completely....no FM available as a backup!

I use my own earphones rather than the bundled ones as more comfortable. More than adequate sound quality and plenty of volume when needed (to drown out overloud inane mobile 'phone 'calls').

Given the lack of FM and rechargeable battery capability, I would not pay 60 pounds for this radio, but given what I did pay it is a bargain for what it is.

This radio is similar to those branded Grundig, Mikomi and Wharfedale. The latter 2 named have FM and rechargable batteries, but the radio's display are all the same.

Review for Sony ICFS22 Personal Radio:
Good radio
This is a high quality product from Sony which, as you might expect, is sturdily built and extremely durable. It's quite bulky for a personal radio, and on removing the packaging you might be surprised by how thick it is. Also, it only sends sound to the one side of the headphones, so it's not ideal for listening to music. Otherwise it's fine and cheap at the price.

Review for Oregon Scientific Silver Easy line Radio Controlled Projection Alarm Clock RM622P:
Not for the Deep sleepers
This alarm clock as some nice fetures, and is perfect for traviling as it can be powered by 2 AA battres.

It also has a radio for auto ajusting to the correct time for its location (not the kind of radio that you lissen to)
And the Projected time is brillent as it will shine on the celing or the walls, at night, during the day it is not visible.

The down side to this is, its too quite, and as a havey sleeper, I was unable to here this alarm go off.
So if you are a havey sleeper, best avoid this product and find somthing with more disabell.
