Leaks like a sieve

I love the idea of this Flavour Shaker and I have to say it is great for crushing peppercorns, garlic, salt and herbs, as part of making dressings.

My problem is I have to wrap it in a tea towel whenever I use it because, no matter how tight or gently I do it up, it leaks oil and vinegar everywhere.

I don't mind having to shake it hard, but I have bashed myself in the face a few times when I stopped concentrating!

If it didn't leak, I'd give 5 stars, but quite frankly, I'd rather use a jam jar and crush stuff with my pestle & mortar.

Great mill

I was given one of these mills 3 or 4 years ago for Christmas. It has been faultless, has almost daily use, and I change the batteries approx. annually. It is used for black pepper only, nothing corrosive like salt. The light is also great for those candelit dinners.
Totally recommended from my experince, YMMD.

the salad spins and the spinner stands

I have owned my oxo - good grips spinner for a few years now (bought it in a littke kitchen shop in Madagascar - it was their only one and they received it by mistake) and I think it is the best. (I have had a few spinners in my day)
1. it is easy to use- you pump on the button and it works (anyone every have one of those spinners that you have to spin in the air by a cord? horrible) much easier to use than a cord spinner or a lever/knob spinner -where you have to rotate the lever/knob around
2. it stays put while it spins- others seem to dance around the counter, but this one has a little rubber traction ring on the bowl- lending it a"good grip"
3.nice brake, to stop the spin and to keep the"spin button" collapsed down for storage
4. easy to store- I sandwhich between my other bowls and the lid is to the side
5. very easy to clean

a good, stylish purchase

On deciding my table needed a new salt and pepper pot - I searched most of the department stores on line. I found there wasnt much choice. Amazon though provided a good selection of cole and mason products (which also come with a lifetime guarantee) at very competive prices. I decided on the"Bobbi" design due to the fact that the price was very good and found this exact item selling at double the price on other websites. The mills are very stylish and feel quite heavy when handling them. When ordering items on line you can never be quite sure whether the product will live up to the description, but I am very pleased with my choice and feel these mills would compliment any dining table.

It Grinds Pepper!

This Peugeot pepper grinder does what it says - grinds pepper - as it should at this kind of price.

It can be adjusted from very fine to very coarse however, to get it from coarse back to fine setting I have to turn it upside down and activate the grinder to get course grains out of the grinding mechanism.

The guarantee is only valid, they claim, if the card is stamped by the supplier which it was not.

All in all, it does a good job.

Small? Not really.

I bought this for my mum and she adores it! I'm glad i didn't go for the bigger one though as this is the perfect size, big enough for even my dad to get his hand in. It's certainly being put to good use in our kitchen!

Salt of the Earth? Not in the Groove oops Grind!

I have the dreadful condition along with many others called carpel tunnel so thought I would treat myself to two of these grinders based on the review I read here.
However although Salter is a very well known name in the kitchen I am disappointed how these grinders work.
1) Open the packaging
2) Read instructions ( you cannot use rock salt with these grinders - why I do not know )
3) Get 4 AA batteries per grinder and take top off (off the grinder dear reader not my own top!)
4) Put batteries in the top of the grinder without loosing one in the kitchen very easy to do if they don't clip in properly.
5) Put top back on
6) Select grind you want either fine medium or corse
7) Press button and watch the pretty light come on and watch the grinder grind and stop! Shake grinder and it continues and stops shake grinder again and it starts then stops!

Yes this only grinds for a few turns and then stops you have to keep shaking the thing and it if wasn't so expensive it would have been thrown against the kitchen wall and I would have spilled pepper corns over the floor and stamped on them would have had a more fun time and landed up with lots of ground pepper and salt rather than the start stop dance I have to do with them.
Next time I will choose to buy a more expensive one perhaps if I do it will actually work longer than a few turns without having to shake it!

The perfect size

This salt pig is the perfect size for any kitchen. It holds one full box of maldon Sea Salt so sits comfortably at the side of the hob. Do not believe Nigella when she describes it as a Salt Pig for the table. Don't be tempted to buy the next size up as it is huge.

i love it, my ten year old loves it. a def improvement on the mortar and pestle. come on - it's cool. it's funky. and it does the job while looking great. just like jamie himself.

Superb results!!

I own a Peugeot car so I was a bemused to see salt and pepper mills with the same brand. A bit of internet research later I realised that these are probably some of the best mills you can buy - Peugeot have put a lot of thought into designing the grinding mechanisms.

So I bought this set and incredible. They grind rock salt and pepper corns to the size you want very quickly. Each twist and the stuff just pours out the bottom. No sore wrist from endless and fruitless milling here.

I am delighted. There are probably better looking sets out there, but if you want the job done, then this set is very impressive and a very well priced.

Salter salt.....and pepper

I first saw these in a B&B. They were so much fun, my breakfast became very salty and peppery. Grinds medium to coarse. Very smart to look at too.
My family told me I didn't need electric salt and pepper grinders. They were wrong. I did.

Does what it says on the 'tin'

As a keen home cook I've been looking for something like this that will do the job without plugging in yet another (so-called) time-saving appliance ...or bashing the living daylights out of herbs in my massive and very heavy pestle and mortar. The shaker is quick to use, easily cleanable and the ceramic ball definitely does the job of pummeling flavour out of those herbs. In other words, you can rustle up flavoursome dressings/marinades for recipes in seconds - perfect, well done Jamie!

Fiddly piglets

The salt and pepper piglets look charming, but they're too small to be practical. I can't get my thumb and index finger into the opening to pick up a pinch of salt, but have to use a spoon instead.

Another problem is that the tiny piglets are rather unstable, and when I'm busily preparing food, I've been known to bump the small china objects, knocking them over and spilling their contents.

They chip all too easily, too.

My verdict: pretty objects, but a lot too small and fragile to be of practical use.

Brilliant pepper mill

This is a superb pepper mill,well worth the money.It has an adjustable ceramic grinding mechanism which grinds effortlessly and works efficiently on all settings.I recommend this product very highly.

This little piggy is the best....

A really stylish and useful item to have on your kitchen worktop. My favorite piece in the range, it really is fine quality.

Don't do it!

Good grinder but it broke after 8 months, because it's plastic a ring by the mechanism cracked. So unfortunately that's in the bin now... The salt one is still going but for how long?
