move it 'n' shake it baby!

After selling all my furniture on ebay, I had alot of money in my pocket, so I thought I would treat myself to a cool blue. And boy was it a treat. It grinds peppercorns so effeciently that you could proberly dispose of a body in it. Herbs and spices are crushed, mixed and ground in a way that really brings out the flavour. Ideal for spicing up brocolli, sprouts and various other brassicas.

I bought a jamie Oliver Professional flavour shaker as a present for somebody last October. Unfortunately for both parties, somebody else beat me to it and I was left to keep this item for myself. It wasn't a huge disaster as I quite fancied one for myself anyway.

To start with I was only crushing fine herbs and peppercorns for which it did a fab job.

This weekend, I needed it to crush some garlic. Boy, was I in a dream world. It smashed it a bit, but taking it to a pulp - nope. Despite adding salt and olive oil, nope, nada.

I decided to wash the device up and have another go at a later date. Rubber seal has come away. It won't go back, and I've only done pepper this evening which has ended up all over the working top.

Unimpressed doesn't describe how I feel. I can only think that 'cut away from camera and we'll crush by another means' goes on in the Oliver programmes. I would not recommend this item if my life depended on it.

Meanwhile, if anybody has any bright ideas as to how I can reaseal my shaker, they'd be very gratefully received.

I quite like Jamie Oliver so I didn't want to bash him but I'm afraid this deserves it. It does nothing at all. You put a clove of garlic in and shake the thing and open it up to find a...clove of garlic. The worst device ever. I'm actually surprised he put his name to it. Its not cheaply made or a 'bit rubbish', it actually doesnt work at all. It does NOTHING. You might as well put a pea in a panda pop bottle and shake it about.

doesnt beat a mortar and pestle

i got this last year as a gift, and i found that it doesnt do the job that my mortar and pestle does. it doesnt seem to really grind the herbs and peppercorns that i have used in it. for just liquids i dont have a problem with it.
