Nice pack

I like this pack, it is simple to use very accesible and good for work. I use it to type up, make graphs etc. Have no problems with it as it works perfectly.

A great version of photoshop!

I have used photoshop for the past 5 years at work - although only for lightweight photo manipulation. Everything that I used to do, I can still to on this version.
I'm no graphic designer, and so I really wanted to make sure this version had the following, which is all I really did anyway:
1) Still has the select tool, and the ability to use layers
2) Still has the adjust - which has more user-friendly settings
3) Can still change image size, and"quality" of jpeg

Also, you can download a 30 day trial at the adobe site - which is useful too! On the whole, a relief to be able to do what I wanted to do, at around 10% of the price!

Help?

I have the older version of this (2005/2006) from when my sister was learning to drive. I've been using it and found it very good but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the 2007/2008 version is any better/has anything new on it that I might need because I know they added some new things to the test in September so do you think it would be worth me buying the newer one or not?

Dirty Tricks

McAfee have recently introduced AUTOMATIC RENEWAL. It sounds harmless enough, but what that means is, without telling you first, or informing you via email, you are 'opted-in' to this new service, which debits your bank account for cover renewal well in advance.

Basically, they take money from your account without your permission or consent, using your card details they have on record. Not only that, but you can't cancel the automatic renewal service from your online McAfee account; no, you have to contact Customer Services to get it taken off.

There are many people out there who's bank account will be tipped into an overdraft situation with this little McAfee trick, and the banks will then charge people for going overdrawn with their accounts, and all because McAfee think it's fine to take money from peoples accounts without permission, and opting them into something that should legally be agreed to first.

Bottom line - McAfee gives great protection with it's software, but this latest stunt proves that they can act just as badly and dishonestly as the people online they are trying to protect you from. Shame on you, McAfee

Buy this product at your peril

The first thing that is worth noting is that it will not work on Vista 64 even though it states it does. The other thing you need to know is that should your one vital piece of protection go wrong, you can get it fixed, and oh dear have Norton got it wrong. And when it comes to customer service it gets even worse. They must have the worst customer service in the world. They offer to call you if you fill in a form, you cannot complete the form as a UK telephone number will not fit in the box; as it converts it to a foreign number and there is not enough space. You can obtail a number but you have to fill in the form again first which you cannot complete. On emailing customer support they give you a number which guess what, is foreign and will not work. When you eventually get a number for them it is an offshore call centre who speak very slowly and grasp what you say once they put it through a translator. Be warned.

Originally Symantec allowed me to download 2008 free when i was using 2007 on Windows XP and i liked what i saw.

The new programme takes complete control of your computer to such an extent that to some it may be overpowering but along with McAfee,Norton is one of the best sellers in Virus Software.

If you are accustomed to using 2007 then you will certainly like 2008 as it is set out logically similarly to 2007.

Norton 2008 looks in certain ways very similar to the previous 2007 and operates in a very similar way but the entire programme has been vastly improved appearence wise and there are fewer boxes to tick but the new software automatically asks you do you want to run Live Update or allow this programme to run.

Some people will find the intrusion of all these boxes opening up every now and then annoying but the information these boxes ask really simplifies the security of your internet browsing.

I have only one complaint about 2008 and that is its the only operating system for Windows Vista.

Previously i had been happily using an almost new 2007 Norton on Xp with still over two hundered days of subscription to go but my Xp became sluggish and tempremental so wisely or foolishly i do not know i formatted my entire computers Hard Drive and installed Vista Premium.

Vista is a dream to use when you get the hang of it and the Aero interface is really usefull.There are so many background enhancements for the overall performance and appearence of Vista that im pleased i took the plunge but come on Symantec allow 2007 to work on it aswell.

Having visited my local branch of Staples recently i noticed they were selling 2008 for a very decent £24.95 including a free Systems Doctor disc aswell.

This disc was intended for the future when my 2007 subscription expired but lo and behold 2007 is only compatible with Xp and willnot work on Vista so thankfully i had a new 2008 disc waiting and im very pleased with the goods so far.

IF YOU ARE USING 2007 YOU WILL CERTAINLY ENJOY THE PLEASURES OF USING 2008.

Bit of a disappointment

Having used office 2008 for a month or so, I must admit to being a bit underwhelmed. Its been a long time since the last release of MS office and the 2004 version was starting to look old. This version has been given a facelift and now runs natively on an intel mac but... thats about it. Whilst the apps themselves are superb, they haven't changed dramatically in years and it would have been nice to see some genuine innovation from Microsoft here. Look at applications like Scrivener for word processing and Apple's own Numbers spreadsheet and you'll see some compelling ways of doing things which show some real insight into how people work. After 4 years, I would have hoped that Office would see some similar innovations but as far as I can tell, this version mainly offers cosmetic changes. I know they had to port their codebase from Codewarrior to Xcode but surely they had time to come up with something better than this?

Another concern is that the Windows and Mac versions are diverging in terms of both interface and functionality. This version has an interface which has more in common with Office 2004 than with Office 2007 and does not use the"ribbon" toolbar of the latter. Also, the omission of VBA scripting in this version is unforgivable.

In terms of speed, I was expecting a speed boost now that the suite is not running under Rosetta on my Macbook. As far as I can see, things run at pretty much the same speed and all the individual apps take quite a while to open. I've also experienced frequent crashes, particularly in Word and Excel.

Overall, despite the above criticisms, the individual applications are all excellent but for the average home user, much of the functionality of Office 2008 is superfluous and there are cheaper alternatives available

The good: Looks nice, universal binary

The bad: No obvious speed boost, frequent crashes, lack of VBA scripting, different interface to Office 2007, elements gallery can't be disabled and uses a lot of vertical screen space, brings nothing new to the table, poor value compared to Windows version which includes VBA scripting and MS access for a lower price.

Good, a bit slow in places

For £40, this is good value. I downloaded the trial version first, with update and no real problems. I then bought this version and loaded the key into the trial version to convert it. My computer is average and uses XP SP2. Where these horror stories come do not align with my experience. The support is available but so far no reasonable response, the KB says my camera's RAW format is supported but I cannot make it work. Corel are not doing themselves any favours, as people likely to buy this product are likely to use RAW format.

Are Microsoft mad? This is a very nice piece of software but lets face it, in this day and age, a £25 one. There's absolutely no justification for an e-mail client as popular as this one to be a staggering £80 plus.
I also agree its ludicrous that its not part of the Student edition. The fact that Word, Excel and OneNote combined is cheaper says it all.

Good product, but activate by phone

I bought this copy of Windows XP from Amazon to install on an new intel-based Mac running Leopard. Purchasing an OEM copy was the cheapest way I could find to set up a genuine copy of Windows. I was a bit concerned about whether the process would work for an individual user, but I was reassured by the previous reviews.

Installation was easy. The product key worked fine. I installed it using on the Mac using boot camp partition and use VM fusion to open it. Following installation Windows wanted activation and I left this for a few days while I sorted some other issues out.

When I came to activate Windows I tried to do it by the internet, but I got a message saying that my product key had expired with no hint how to proceed. So I phoned up Microsoft support and they said I had to register as an OEM partner. Looked into this option briefly and decided that it was for computer manufacturers.

After an internet search I found an article which said that Microsoft had suspended internet activation because of fraud. There is freephone number to ring in the activation window. The activation process gives you nine 6-digit numbers to key in. Once you have done this you get seven 6-digit numbers to enter to complete the activation process.

So this OEM version works, but be aware that you need to activate by phone.

Absolutely Great!

I bought this after reading the other reviews, and i am very impressed, installed without a hitch, content is brilliant, covers everything. My rating says everything!!!!!!

Stodgy sloppy software

I bought MM thinking that there would be some intelligent design and well thought out structure, behind a microsoft product, allowing users to tailor it to their needs. The downloads from my accounts almost never balance and I have to manually go through all my statements to correct errant entries. Difficult to open multiple databases without backing up and logging in again. No save or save as functions. No append functions. Difficult to sort or categorise similar items at a stroke. Almost impossible to change, add or rename fields. Always anxious of overwriting previous data given the way MM saves/backs-up. What a terrible piece of software. Any offers on alternate intuitive and well-designed accounting software??

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try and save your money as this really is a shoddy and awfull piece of software, I don't know how Symantic have the gaul to even think of releasing this. Even if you have a high spec PC, it will still slow the performance of your computer.

Buy Norton, Hello Kapersky

For many years I have renewed my subscription of Norton's internet security without even thinking about it.
My PC became very sluggish. I couldn't find an explaination of why this was happening. People said that Norton is a culprit for guzzling processor power. I found this to be true.
I bought Kapersky on recommendation of a friend and haven't looked back.
Norton caused a very slow PC boot up and the system chugged when a virus scan was being performed.
Now my PC is running like a brand new machine. Kapersky is a fraction of the cost of Norton and you don't even notice it is there except when it matters.
I can't recommend this program enough. I get frustrated now when I see PC stores bundling Norton with their machines now.

excellent item

if youre like me and have very unreliable driving instructs with weeks apart between lessons then this will keep you a fresh on the basic of driving while also studying for your tests. highly recommended

It would be great - if it worked properly!

I bought this software about 4 months ago and have been in contact with Sony Tech Support ever since. Like the other reviewer says, they are utterly useless at getting their software to work correctly.

I have to say that I do like the user interface and concept of Vegas Studio, but every time I try to render a file which is more than 25mins long, it crashes. Sony are unable to explein why this happens. I've now tried it on 3 different computers and the same fault occurs on each of them.

So, if you want to render files longer than 25mins, then don't waste your money on this program! (like I did)

No, it's not better than windows. But it isn't worse.

I'm tired of reading these articles on how macs are vastly superior to windows based machines. if you consider that microsoft has to tailor an operating system to work on countless configurations of hardware, whereas apple mass produces the same specificiation for every set brand of computer, you may understand why windows crashes a bit more.
macs crash, by the way. mine froze on imovie the first day i got it. impressive, ey?
of course, mac os x leopard is stunning. its fast, its intuitive and best of all, it's simple. but i like windows just as much. they both have their strengths and weaknesses. oh, by the way, the"vista sucks" debate got old when it was discovered none of the haters have even TOUCHED it.
but anyway. great OS, but don't expect it to redefine the operating systems of the future because, as it is, it doesn't do anything new.

dont go there

well - i'm now into week 11 of trying to install this on my laptop. the helpdesk keep sending me the same instructions which i keep telling them dont make any difference. it still wont install.
it works fine on my desktop - like others i changed from norton which was causing serious slowing down of all systems. i'm using bullguard free trial at the moment - which is fine. kaspersky - fine if it works - but beware unhelpful and very slow technical helpdesk. dont even bother trying to phone. they never ring back.
