Studio 11 has many problems

I have been a Pinnacle Studio user since 2000 and always found it satisfactory, however since upgrading my OS to Windows Vista and purchasing Studio 11 I have been unable to capture video. It drops frames immediately capture starts.
Since August 16th I have been in communication with Pinnacle and now, two months later, they are still unable to offer a fix or find out what is wrong with their program.
Studio 10 and XP SP2 worked perfectly OK but there must be compatibility issues with this latest release and Vista. I will have change to Adobe software if they cannot fix it soon.
Do not waste your money on this one.

Quickbooks Con

I ordered this from Amazon who as usual offered a very competative price and good delivery, so no argument there at all.
However, the software is very disappointing. The major issue being that know where on any of the Quickbooks documentation or on the Intuit websites does it tell you this will not allow you to load any previous Quickbooks company files. Our business is very simple, no stock, no salaries to pay, the only complication being VAT (which I now understand it calculates incorrectly anyway). We don't need all the functions in the Pro version at all, so this looked ideal.
So be warned, look else where if you already use another version of Quickbooks. The only good thing is the 30 day return to Intuit warranty, which I will certainly be using.

This set of books covers the four Microsoft MCSA/E core exams.

Having purchased and read these books, there really is no other set which is as comprehensive or well written.

Youl will find these books accurate and concise and note a vast amount of"real world" experience referenced inside them.

Excellent - with XP and Solaris already running.

Parallels is easy to install and run. Loading in operating systems is also very easy - select the OS, insert the disk, follow the instructions in the installation window. I found that was all there was to it - for both XP and Solaris.

The speed is very good - I'm running an iMac Core 2 Duo - 2GhZ. Its the lowest spec iMac as of Jan 2008. But, I have a lot of memory (4GB), even so, there is loads left when running up either of these OS's. You'll be 'very' comfortable with only 2GB. There's no hanging or pausing.

With OS X Leopard, its much better. You can run an OS in each virtual desktop - full screen. Excluding the mouse and keyboard, you can easily forget your using a Mac.

I haven't used it intensely, but no crashes so far. There are nice features - like automatically sharing your Mac documents folder with Windows (which is optional).

With this software - the Mac becomes a true platform. This means there's no more excuses to convert.

But, there are a couple of issues:

1) After installing Parallels, it tries to get an update straight after. This hung the application. But, after stopping the process, I updated manually - and it was fine.

2) The manual could be more extensive. Its a quick start guide, but the box is huge for what is in side it - so it could have been filled out with a bigger manual.

3) To buy this directly from the producers is more expensive! Charging extra for a CD version and for updates! Also, the pro version has additional 'Windows' software! NOT, mac software! They don't state this very clearly! Lucky I explored these extra packages to find this out - otherwise it looked very attractive. So, in a word, your better off getting it from here.

Terrific

A terrific piece of software. A vast improvement on FTM2005. If you are really serious with your genealogy then this is the package for you. Plus subscribe to Ancestry.co.uk for a year. I was initially reluctant to pay the year's subscription thinking I probably wouldn't take full advantage of it but it's far the better option than buying bits of credit to this and that genealogy website.

Not a convert

Loved Quicken but new computer with Vista meant I had to change.
Aaargh!! I am tearing my hair out trying to persevere with Personal Accountz. All"categories" are"accounts", it all looks so home made and it is very hard on the eyes.
If you are used to Quicken don't bother with this.
(not sure there's that much choice for Vista users though)

condescending

I have a Mac, or rather I have several Macs, and decided to try out Parallels Desktop to see whether Windows had anything to offer. Well, it's really nice to be able to run Windows on a Mac, but I have to say, having tried it out I don't ever see myself using it. The operating system is just so condescending, from the horrible little ditty it plays to the smugly"helpful" but awful way it presents itself to the user. Sure, it probably works well enough, but compared to Mac OSX it's a complete wash-out.

However, if it's as stable as some people say it is, it might come in useful if ever I have to run a programme that's only available for Windows ... Heaven help me!

Incompatible with firewalls

This is not a review of the product but a review of trying to install it. Don't even think of buying this if you want to use either zone alarm or comodo free personal firewalls as they are incompatible. The installation will tell you that it is incompatible with comodo but you will have a learning experience if you have zone alarm. So it looks like they pretty much force anyone who wants a firewall to buy their security suite.

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

Windows has never been a particularly good OS, though XP gave reason for optimism. Vista is a total pig, conflicting with much widely-used and, in some cases industry standard, software (Adobe/Macromedia DreamWeaver 8, Apple QuickTime and Apple iTunes etc for example) that worked perfectly well with Windows XP. Of course, nearly all OEMs are compelled to install Vista on any new hardware, but thankfully Dell will still sell new kit with XP installed. Stick with XP if you have to use a Microsoft Windows OS, otherwise consider a wider range of options...

Great for family trees

This is an excellent package for putting your tree together. Logical, user friendly and capable of turning out some excellent trees.

This can easily export trees to websites.

I wouldn't be without it!

With Photoshop 'extended' you get everything in standard Photoshop CS3, plus tools for editing 3D and motion-based content and performing image analysis [although freebie ImageJ offers more of the latter]. If your child is a school pupil (Primary/secondary) or university student you can use this software once you get their school/university to stamp and sign the form. The software is thus home use only and must be used non-commercially (i.e. for educational use). In fact my 11 year old son uses Photoshop CS3 regularly as I can teach him being a professional user myself. Photoshop Extended does have a steep learning curve, largely as the on-line help is pretty awful (e.g. it never says exactly where to find the command). However once on the PC at home, both parents and offspring are able use this powerful photo-editing software.

Less experienced PC users/photographers may prefer Adobe Elements 6.0 (a cut down version of Photoshop Extended), which is pretty powerful in it's own right - plus student versions of the combined Adobe Elements 6.0 (photos) & Adobe Premiere 4.0 (video) packages are avaiable as cheap student licences as well. Plus there's the powerful Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 10 that comes in at a few pounds more than Elements 6.0 and, although aimed at professional photographers on a budget, it is ideal for anyone with an expensive digital camera. Photoshop is XP/Vista only though and you must meet the minimum Adobe hardware spec or the software won't install. For details of Photoshop extended see adobe.com. So a great way to obtain a full version of Photoshop at a considerable discount.

WARNING!!

This product has no redeeming features except the good looking box. I had a trial CA product on my computer, when I tried to order this online their ordering process tried to trick me into buying more expensive products, so I put Bullguard on my computer. Everything has all but ground to a standstill. I have torn my hair out waiting for applications to open and close, for emails to download, open or delete. NOTHING ON MY COMPUTER WORKS PROPERLY ANYMORE. I have to close the computer down using the off button several times a day, even my printer and modem have become a problem!!!!! When I turned all the Bullguard applications off everything started working perfectly. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!

Not about Product, but service.

Ordered this two/three weeks ago, it arrived yesterday, right packaging wrong disc, it is for Windows Home Basic upgrade. Informed Amazon about this, i asked them to check the batch before re-sending a replacement. The replacement arrived today, great service but same problem, disc is for Basic still. All they could offer was a reinbursment. Not a happy chicken.
I have now researched this a bit and took a chance on loading it. It works, and i am a happy chicken, the disc contains all versions of Vista.
It is Brill, no problems with the load although it is a long job.
Would give it and Amazon 5 Stars now.

Stupid and arrogant

Forced to upgrade from 06 as non supported payroll and assumed all would be fine. Programme really slows down your systems - very memory intensive. Lots of glitches - it error reports you classes are not entered when they are, VAT doesn't get transferred over from old programme to next (detail is left on old version and you have to keep this on old computer too.) The list goes on and on - it is just not any better - BUT MUCH WORST!A few have suggested keeping the old version - fine if you don't run payroll - if you do you HAVE to upgrade or you are running 2 accounting packages that are not related / integrated. The fact that the new upgrade/ patches do not address these issues and it was released too early suggests a company that is at best stupid and at worst arrogant - do these people not realise that businesses are relying on this package to be accurate and stable? Some have mentioned transferring to another package - massive upheaval / learning process!

IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT AN ACCOUNTING PACKAGE FIRST TIME OUT - THINK SAGE! IF YOU ARE AN EXISTING USER - THINK PUTTING YOUR HEAD IN THE OVEN.

Great reference

This book covers all of the 70-431 topics in just about as much detail as you need for the exam without over complicating matters. It also comes with 450 questions which is really useful in testing your knowledge. The explanations are in easy to understand english, with the possible exception of HHTP endpoints which could be done with abit more clarity. On the whole an excellent guide for the exam

Crashing is no problem

I have been editing video using Pinnacle software for a fair few years now, but recently decided it was time to upgrade my video editing software. As Pinnacle does not have native support for Dolby Digital Sound I thought I would try and find a package that did as I was fed up with the time it took converting audio to a format supported by Pinnacle.
While looking around I discovered VideoStudio, but not liking change (or spending money) I decided to download the trial software from Corel's web site. I am so glad I did as I no longer have to spend hours converting audio. My editing speed has increased 10 time over. Okay, the programme has crashed on me, but from experience with Pinnacle I thought I'd re-write the unedited film through VideoStudio (choose to export the video mpeg 'same as first video clip' from the share/create video file option after dragging it to your editing timeline window) to a new file name. After doing that you should be able to edit the re-written film with no further problems.
Just for information I use a laptop with 64Mb on board graphics, 512Mb Ram, a Pentium4 2.66 Ghz processor, WinXP Home SP2 and a 500Gb USB2 Hard Disk (for storage of original, and edited film). Not the meatiest machine, but it does the job fine.
I have now bought the full package here, and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival (although I did use supersaver post - as I said I don't like spending money).

A Must Have!!!

this is definately a item to have if your looking to take a theory test for large vehicles. i have this item up for sale on amazon as i have no use for it anymore as im now an lgv driver. this cd helped me alot couldnt have passed the theory without it!
