Excellent training software

I passed my ECDL in three months using this and an additional manual. Very cheap considering the costs of a tutor lead ECDL course.

Outlook 2003 Bug

I bought Office Professional with the specific intention of using Outlook as my email provider. Unfortunately this particular version has a number of bugs and potentially conflicts with Norton antivirus.

The problem is that Outlook from time to time does not send out emails in the Outbox a problem that appears to occur on a random basis, but more often when an email in the outbox is re-edited.

There does not appear to be a fix for this on the Microsoft site and the software developers seem to be unclear how to resolve this problem. After hours of frustation trying to get Outlook to send out a set of emails, I finally gave up and downloaded a free emailing package call Thunderbird from Mozilla, which does all I need.

Why has this amazing software package increased by £15.00 on amazon? It was listed for £99.99 yesterday. Without it being on sale before it seems unreasonable for AMAZON to simply up the prices like this...

Like most folks that use the Internet regularly, pay there bills online, download music etc you need to be safe in the knowledge that your computer & network is secure and safe.

I, in the past have tried numerous Internet Security Suites (the most 'popular' ones that I used where McAfee & Norton), despite them offering"unbeatable and reliable" protection all they seemed to do was either break down, stop updating and slow down my computer!

So, after trawling the Net looking for the 'best' Internet Security Suite I came accross AVG 8.0. My dad has been using AVG 7.5 for ages (first the trial version then buying the full title) and says that it is fantastic. so, bought it (greatly priced here)

It is, with no word of a lie, the most comprehensive, most perfect IS suite that I have ever used. Not only does it take a few minutes to install and register but it doesn't slow or dull the performance of my computer. AVG 8.0 offers the 'bells and whistles' everything that you could possibly need for a secure Internet and secure computer is offered. My favourite tool, is the LINK SCANNER. This actually scanns websites searched for on a search engine and rates its safety for you.

If you are in the market for an IS suite give serious thought to purchasing this one, real time online protection, anti-virus, anti-spyware, blocks hakers & fast updates (never be a day out of date). This is fairly priced and is fantastic, consider it, download trial version and then buy. You will not regret it, I certainly don't.

Support

I have owned this software since its pre Windows days. It has always done all that I could want by way of managing my finances even when they became more complicated when I retired. I have moved with the software from an Acorn computer, remember those, to Windows 98 and then to XP. I have received great support with each of these moves and I still have my original records intact despite changing computer architecture and operating systems. Thank you Accountz.

A big hit with the kids

My little boy (6) loves Cluefinders and is always striving to get to the next level. It seems to provide a good topic of conversation with his friends too.

Greeting Card Print Problem

Like previous reviewers I have also found a problem when printing from version 7. I upgraded from version 3 which I had no problems with at all and was looking forward to the newest Greeting Card Factory at a great price at the time from Amazon. However, in the first few prints a mysterious black line about a5 size appeared and the printer slowed down taking ages to print individual cards. I contacted the Technical Dept of Nova Development who said this seems to be a recurring theme and the Developers of the Software are looking into it. There may be a patch/fix later to download, but in the meantime the advice given is to save whatever you are doing, including the fold wizard, as a PDF file, then print. I have tried to print normally the line still is there, but as a PDF file, line is gone and printer worked as normal. Hope this helps!

Brain training for learner drivers

All the car controls you'd expect are included in this program (clutch, gear, brakes, gas pedal, indicators etc) in a"brain training" kind of way. You have to remember the correct procedures for each manoeuvre and repeat them in the order they should be carried out. This takes a bit of getting used to but I'm finding that"practise makes perfect". OK so your computer can't teach you mechanical things like clutch control but this program has video tutorials to demonstrate what to do. So should you buy the Practcical Simulator? Well the routines I have practised most in the program have been almost second nature when I did them for real, which has really helped me (and impressed my driving instructor!).

Multiple system crashes...

I have used Norton Antivirus for years without complaint. I recently purchased the full 2008 version as a replacement for the 2005 version I was using, and it has completely buggered up the PC. Repeated system crashes and super slow performance despite a full re-format and re-installation of all software is now the norm. I would no longer recommend this product.

Great buy

My daughter is 3 and just loves this, she knows most of the words and sits for as long as we'll allow switching from task to task.

Good product, good value, but not perfect

I bought TUP2008 after trialling the 2007 version. From a useability viewpoint I slightly preferred the 2007 version, though to be fair the 2008 version has more tools included. The package seems to be quite good at spotting and fixing problems in the Windows registry, in programs, and in shortcuts. Running the 1-Click cleanup in TUP2008 every day does seem to keep the PC running more smoothly.

For the price requested I think the package represents good value. I guess (inevitably) I compare it against the"old" versions of Norton SystemWorks (before Norton started to charge higher prices for"upgrades" that didn't work as well or even properly), and I still hanker after the way SystemWorks used to get on with the job of cleaning things up without too much fuss.

That said, the core functions in TUP2008 do work effectively. The defrag tool takes a while to run, but the PC does speed up noticeably afterwards. The utility for speeding up or optimising the web connection and/or tuning Windows also seems to make a noticeable difference.

TUP2008 also gives shortcuts to tuning the system which you can access via My Computer. For non-techie people TUP2008's way of doing this, especially as it also offers"roll-back" options if you don't like the end results, may be judged preferable.

There are also tools for altering the look and feel of Windows. Some of these can be a little system-hungry but if you have plenty of RAM they do look quite good.

Overall, I'm very statisfied with the way TUP2008 works, and think it's a comprehensive package for the price.

The VW Beetle of Software?

I have had Ulead software before and found it to be no-frills, practical, does-the-job stuff.
Burn.now is no exception. Bought it, installed it, burnt first DVD with no drama or concern.
Excellent. Does exactly what I want at a sensible price.

ABSOLUTE RUBBISH

I bought this deluxe version of the Family tree maker recently,only to find I cannot add my own brother to it ! nor my own childrens wife/partners or grandchildren what is the point of any family tree,if you cannot even add you own brother? as he is part of my family tree.
I am disgusted with this tree maker. do not buy it you are wasting your money.

A Worthy Upgrade to an Essential Photo Application

I recently upgraded from the original Aperture (Ver. 1.2) to this new version (Ver. 2.1), and I am very happy with it.

Image editing enhancements aside (there's many a tutorial and explanation on the Apple website), the major criticism I found with Aperture 1 was that it was a massive memory hog, mostly due to the program being designed for Power-PC architecture. This meant that when editing photos or loading up the program on my Intel-Macbook, the software was very 'heavy' and laggy at times.

This version is now configured to work with Intel-chipsets in the current Macintosh lineup and as such operates far more smoothly and requires much less memory to run. It has also been 'polished' to be consistent with the aesthetic changes in OSX Leopard.

Aperture is far superior to Apple's iPhoto, and also can export files to be edited in external programs, such as Photoshop. For organising a large photo library and all the non-destructive image-editing that goes with it (files remain in tact, only the changes are saved and applied when viewing and exporting the images, saving on crucial hard-drive space) this program is essential, if not amazingly beneficial to professionals and amateur photographers alike. A long overdue upgrade to an amazingly useful program.

Miraculous

I am baffle by the negative comments. Training time Dictate is only five minutes. Its accuracy is incredible. Naturally a correction window would be welcome, and that is why I give only four stars. This review appears as I dictated it, without any corrections.
