Review for The Sims 2: Castaway (PSP):
Frustrating!
I was really enjoying playing this game and had about 3 hours playing time under my belt when my PSP started crashing. Now, like Thomas I cannot load my saved game. If I start a new game it lasts about 20 mins before crashing. Aaaaargh!

The Sims 2: Pets (PSP)

Review for The Sims 2: Pets (PSP):
Sims With Incontinent Pets,
If you were considering whether to get Sims2 or Sims2 Pets for the PSP without a doubt I'd buy the Sims2.

This is more like the original Sims - no storyline and you just progress learning more skills and geting better careers and houses.

BUT it is far less entertaining than the PS2 versions I've played mostly because the lack of locations - your house and one park with a few shops.

The pets are annoying - they takes ages to train and wander off mid training session. You don't get that with learning skills at least the bookcases etc stay in one place. They are not fun pets either. All they seem to do is wander around leaving puddles. You are supposed to be able to scold them and train them but they wander off before you have time to deal with them.
There is a limit on how much you can furnish your house with even on the 3rd out of 4 house size layout. This limit is incredibly small and frustrating. You can't even leave many toys out for the pets to play with. If you exceed this level your Sims possesions catch on fire and you end up with a pile of ashes unless you sell the items in time.

You don't seem to need any skill to play it. I've been leaving it on overnight and the Sims seem to do better by themselves. I just carry on from where they've left off. If you get the skill level up they can get the money, careers and friendship levels up by themselves.

I do like it but it's the least entertaining Sims version I've played.

The good points are its the Sims who are a brilliant concept and it is a good game, there don't seem to be any major glitches - you don't get stuck behind furniture which spoiled a lot of the sims2 psp version. You can control and move around with your Sim in real time mode or in old style control mode line up a series of actions for them.

There are a few fun items - the benches in the park require investigation but overall it seems a little slow and boring with very little gain or progression for achieving anything.

I'd still recommend it if you like the Sims. If you don't have a PSP Sims game buy the Sims2 without the Pets. At least you can wander around lots of different locations and houses. Here it's a bit like Groundhog day.

Sonic for the PSP - Well worth the wait
You thought sonic on other platforms was good? This is even better! Imagine the retro 2D style of the older sonic games, combined with 3D graphics - and that is what this is. Lots of different combinations of settings, goals and story modes make this game have a long shelf life - and you have to keep going back to beat your score. Would definitely recommend this to PSP owners - and also to possible owners!

Review for Patapon (PSP):
Fantastic
I have been playing video games for over 15 years and this is without a doubt the most refreshing, new, exciting and barking mad game I have played in many, many years.

Read the publishers description and other reviews as I am lost for words that really describe this game accurately.

I have take my PSP with me on work travel and have found myself frantically drumming away on a plane, not noticing that everybody was staring at me - it's just so additive.

I find myself walking around the supermarket singing 'pon pon pata pon'

Star Wars Battlefront II (PSP)

Used Price: £12.00

Review for Star Wars Battlefront II (PSP):
Star wars fans dont be dismayed this game is ok
This is my first time at writing a review but its about quite a good game i brought this game by accident insted of the PS2 version but i later got a PSP, overall its a good game. There are a few things wrong with it though, the controls have 4 different modes defult, basic, advanced and retro on advanced and retro you can roll but on basic and defualt you cant this make using the controls difficult if youve got used to 1 set and want to be able to roll, also on the first game you have free acsses to wookies and jet troopers but on this one you dont you have to get points to get them why did the makers do that? , that aside though its a Amazing game the graphics are good and the missions were you can be a rouge assassin, impereal inforcer and rebel raider are really fun but the best thing is you get to be a jedi!! I hope i was of help to whoever reads this

Review for Final Fantasy I (PSP):
Bye bye social life...
The first game in the epic Final Fantasy series is now available on PSP and its great. The graphics have been updated since the NES days and looks positively nice on the little handheld.

The gameplay is really good. Its a good premise, with certain items needing to be found to unlock a new area, to get new stuff etc. It has a lot of play value in it and you may well find yourself stuck.

I have racked up almost 10 hours of play already on this and I'm only about half way through. If you like your games long and deep there is no better buy than this, especially at this price.

Review for Star Ocean: First Departure (PSP):
The legend begins.
For the longest time I have left the Star Ocean series for what it was. I don't know why, I suppose I was just really conservative at the time and was afraid of trying new games. It wasn't untill I played Valkyrie Profile for PSP that I got interested in other Tri-Ace titles. Needless to say that I got very excited when I heard of a remake for the first two Star Ocean games, I saw it as a chance to not only get into the series, but play them as a whole at that (minus blue sphere of course). After finally playing and finishing first departure I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.

The story begins with Roddick, a fellpool (a tailed race) living quitely in his vilage alongside his friends Millie and Dorne where they serve as a kind of defense brigade. When suddenly a disease starts to turn people to stone, they set out to find a cure on a nearby mountain. Their lives however get turned upside down after meeting Ilia and Ronyx, two earthlings who suddenly appear before them in a flash of light. This is where the adventure begins.

The thing I noticed about Tri-Ace games is that they like to make refferences to their other titles, a lot. This goes from familiar sounds and menu navigation to having characters from other games make cameo appearances and even joining in on your adventure. As such if you have played any other Tri-Ace title before and liked it, chances are high that you will enjoy the basic interface of this game as well.

The battle system was unique to me, during combat you move around with your party leader attacking and using special attacks/spells to obliterate your enemy while your allies move around and do the same on AI, you can switch leader mid-battle to suit your needs as well. This tends to give the game a more action oriented feeling in combat than the more traditional RPGs out there but it's worked out pretty nice and your allies are in fact smart compared to other games where they tend to run around mindlessly attacking and wasting MP. Only bad thing is that it tends to get boring after a while but then again, I think most battle systems are like that.

The story might seem a little short and primitive to some but remember, this is a remake of a game that was released in the SFC era, back in those days this was a great story and if you can keep that in mind then I'm sure you'll find this enjoyable too. Just don't expect a long and intruiging story with lots of plot twists.

The only thing I disliked about the game was the overworld map, wich you ALWAYS traverse on foot, this can take long and can be quite tedious at some points when also considdering the huge ancounter rate.

All in all this was a great game and it certainly made me crave for more. Now bring on second evolution!

Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command (PSP)

Review for Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command (PSP):
Excellent portable PSP game turn based strategy
One of the first games I purchased for the PSP an still playing it.
The graphics and sound are superb, and the missions are at the right difficulty level.

There are a number of units to use (space marines, scouts, terminators, grey knights, dreadnoughts, predator, land raider, land speeder) as the space marines and the enemy chaos also has a number of different units and vehicles. You get to choose the weaponry (bolters, missile launchers, las cannons, chainsword, plasma guns and many more) for your squad and then play a hunt and destroy or survive for a number of turns game.

They are all set in an urban city which again is very good graphics and the scenery is all destructable. This is the real limitation of the game and all missions are set in the same city environment. But the game is great fun and there are 15 missions to play in single mission mode. The best missions are when you have to keep the squad alive playing defensice for a number of turns whilst they are attacked by numerous enemies.

The cut scenes also must get a mention as they are really well rendered.
Though the storyline linking them could have been better with characters that such as maybe a squad sergeant etc.

Top game lets hope they do another.

Review for Space Invaders Extreme (PSP):
A genius update to the classic formula
OK, so it is Space Invaders, relatively unchanged too.

But what it does add it does with style, class and finesse.

The structured powerup system, the Rez-style synaesthetic beats and backgrounds, the branching level structure, bonus rounds, bosses and more.

It's a much more nuanced game than you once knew, requiring a little more thought and skill. It can still be played as a hectic blaster but there's a lot more depth if you want it.

Absolutely genius for bus/train/tube journeys!

Cars for the PSP :)
Having enjoyed the film at the cinema.

I couldn't resist purchasing this video game when I had saved up for my PSP. I couldn't have been more delighted with this game - when I can actually win a race!

First of all, the graphics and visuals are stunning for a handheld. I haven't seen this game on any other console, but I am guessing it would be one of the best. There are different modes on this game, theres the Story Mode, where some street racers have come to town, and the only way they will leave is if you win them in a series of races. There are also the Grand Prix and Time Trail modes which are also very good. Although, I must admit this game can be a bit difficult once passed the first couple of races, resulting in me having to consult my older brother to give me a helping hand with this game. Fortunately he is very good at these things, and I managed to pass this level.

So, hopefully I shouldn't get stuck anymore on this game. The game is exciting, and relives the action and fun of the great movie, with 15 playable characters on this game. Load times are quick, and keys are responsive. Very high quality game. Thanks x

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (PSP)

Used Price: £8.00
New Price: £14.35

Review for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (PSP):
Almost perfect for the PSP
I love this game...at it's really suited to the PSP.
The graphics are cool, the music is excellent and the theme of the 80s LA style is almost perfect really.

I've only given the game 4 stars for"fun" because it can be a little difficult, although I'm not the best gamer in the world so it could just be me!

If you've played GTA before then you know all about the format and how it works and it may be a little"been there done that" for you.
But if you haven't, or you're new to the PSP then this is the one game I heartily recommend. Seriously. if you could have one game for the PSP this may very well be it!
