Not Original Scrabble

This might call itself Scrabble Original, but it isn't. The Scrabble sets I played on as a lad all had wee holes in the board and pegs on the tiles so that the game wouldn't be ruined by the slightest knock. Sadly no more. It also comes in a stupidly huge box to make storage unnecessarily awkward. Disappointing.

A family classic

I used to play this game as a child and having played it again recently - it really doesn't lose any of its appeal or fun over time.

You (and any number of players from 2 to 10) each start with 7 cards and the aim of the game is to get rid of them all. Sounds simple enough but add in 'change colour' cards, 'rotate play' cards, 'pick up 4' cards and devious other players and you have a fantastically entertaining and addictive game. In my opinion the beauty of this game is the fact that it changes so quickly and you can be winning one minute and then losing the next. It really brings out the competitive nature of the players.

The size of a pack of cards, this is the perfect game for taking with you on long journeys, or for a quick game no matter where you are. While the other versions of the game (such as Uno Spin) are fun and entertaining - you really can't beat this classic family game. It's simple to learn and simple to play and suitable for all ages.

Whether you're a child or and adult, this is a game that you will want to keep playing over and over again. Fun, exciting and addictive - a real family classic and for the price, one not to be missed. Definitely worth 5 stars.

Great fun for all...but

...I'm a big fan of this game. The children don't get a look-in. I wish though that the manufacturers had made the voice a little less triumphant when you get it wrong. I'm trying to teach my children to be gracious in victory and Bop It's crowing when your dithering hands fumble to the wrong trigger yet again is not terribly helpful to my cause. I did also develop a medical condition called"Bop It Hand" which afflicts those who bash that"Bop It" button as though their life depended upon it.

Still successfull after nearly seventy years at the top.

There cannot be many people in the English speaking world who havenot played or atleast seen a box containing a momopoly set.

At present it has been printed in 34 different languages and as the basic rules are within the grasp of most people from single figures to triple figures.

Looking at the rules you would think this was a game of chance really desided on the luck of the dice but this game is played at championship level and if you know the odds of how the dice may land its almost possible to win every time aslong as you know what properties you need to buy.
I have a book written some years ago outlining the properties that you will land on no matter what you throw.

As you may have gathered the most expensive properties in Green and Purple can and easily be missed several times.Those Orange,Red and Yellows may be a little cheaper to develop but you are guaranteed to land on them far often with dire consquences if they have been developed.

By the time your opponent has landed at Park Lane or Mayfair you may be out of the game.

Monopoly can be played by all ages and the fact that Speers games have kept the price down over the years must say something about its popularity and sales.

Almost perfect - but not quite!

I was looking for a replacement for my travel magnetic scrabble as the letters on that tend to fall off as the glue holding the letter to the magnet melts in the heat. Apart from that, it was a well designed set which was compact and everything fitted into the board when not being used.

This version is much bigger. The board opens on one side (not on both as per other reviewers - maybe they have changed the design) to hold the racks and any unplayed tiles while played tiles can simply remain on the board.

My main gripe is that shuffling the tiles on the rack is not easy as they are quite a tight fit. I m anticipating losing a few tiles before long.

summer fun

This is a great toy for all aspiring tennis players or just those of you who do not have a large enough garden to play tennis in. It's great to play with in the summer in the sun and will please all ages including parents. Best played with two people but you can practice on your own.

alternative to computer games...

I just bought this for 11 year old twin boys who would normally always prefer the computer or video games ...but they think this is really good and are even willing to get ready for bed early so they can play. What more could you ask for?

Noughts & crosses for older children

This game is fundamentally noughts and crosses with an extra 0 or X needed. The game is simple but quite clever. Children up to about age 11 will love it. Adults who've had a couple of glasses of wine will also enjoy it. It's a classic, but as an adult, I'd have to say it's not a game that maintains its' appeal for older people.

More Twister please by Hugo

My son aged five loves this game, I know that the age range is from 6 years on the actual box, but five is an ideal age to start trying it out.

It really gets small children to recognise colours and the shape of a circle without even thinking that they are learning something, you know what they say if they enjoy playing with something and it also teaches them something then it cann't be too bad a toy. (Cann't remember who said that, but from somewhere in my distant memory I can remember that being said when I was a child).

The game is quite robust even when five year old and 15 year old daughter and friends join in, it doesn't tear or rip and best of all it can be used outside in the summer, so instead of the children being couch potatoes, especially during the summer hols, get them outside with this, whilst you can have some peace inside without them!

The game can also be played with just two people, both of mine also play together and wear themselves out.

Great to take on a camping or caravanning holiday, small to pack but endless fun.

Good for adults too after a barbie, but not too much alchol though as could be a trip to casualty needed.

Glad I bought it as it did produce a good many laughs and gymnastics at the same time.

Quite a good priced game, if you think of the amount of times and people who can play it, without loosing lots of little pieces, great for a birthday present, as then when it comes to a quiet moment and prizes have run out, you know when younger ones want more and more prizes let them play this.

Have noticed that as of 5/5/07 when I was in Toysarus that they were doing a deal of buy any MB Game and get a free £12.99 Little Pets Tomagoche, or free football DVD (cann't remember exact title sorry) but well worth it as the Little Pets free gift is worth £12.99. I bought the Operation game for £9.99 and was amazed that my free gift was worth more than actual game I bought. (Could be worth putting away for present for someone for Birthday or Christmas).

New set, same game

We were introduced to Settlers of Catan by a friend, and have played on his board on many occasions. Having bought the new edition, I can now say that the new design is very nice. It took a couple of games to get used to what was what but my wife and I now play happily.

The pieces are still good quality wooden affairs, the tiles themselves are just as wellmade as before (now backed with sea rather than plain). Regarding the frame, ours is a anug fit, but I put that down to it being new. We haven't needed to make any alterations as the above commenter has, so his may be an unfortunate batch.

The overall look is very nice, the gameplay is as before, and I thoroughly recommend it.

Easy to pick up and understand

My daughter (aged 5) got this for her Christmas. As you open it, the first thing going through your mind is"how complicated are the rules/gameplay going to be?". Well, with this game, its pretty straightforward. Each player has to get one of 5 cards. As you go round the board, if you land on the fairy godmother, you press the glass slipper. If you hear a magical noise, you flip the card over - if you hear the bells at midnight, you leave it alone. First player to have all 5 cards, and have them all turned over wins.

Pretty simple. Perhaps not going to push the wee ones the way some other toys will, but its good just for a 10-20 minute fill.

4/5 - loses one star as I don't think this will be a toy that they go back to over the long term.

Pass the Pig is a brilliant game for all the family. It is simple to play and learn, easy and small to transport where
ever you go. You can play it anywhere, with as little or as many people as you like. It teaches children to add up quickly and is a lot of fun.

One Of The Best Board Game I've Ever Played!!

Risk is a world domination game where strategy and luck is a factor. You can play this game for hours, once i played this for 9hrs with 5 friends!
I recommend you buy this game, but be warned, it is very easy to lose the small pieces.

I first played Articulate at my aunt's house with my cousins, and it was so good that we had to buy one for ourselves! No family gathering is complete without a game of Ariculate! It is so much fun and always guaranteed to make you laugh! Buy it now!

A game that I bought after reading the reviews and have not been disappointed. It is great fun for the child and the adult and teaches at the same time. Fully recommended.

Speech Therapist's choice

I use this game a lot in therapy sessions. It's great for learning vocabulary, practicing speech sounds, turn-taking, listening and attention,concentration, etc. etc. Best of all, the children really enjoy playing it and it shows that 'low-tech' games are still very popular.

Its a game for heavy fun with friends that is guranteed to produce many laughs, perhaps a few minor arguments and a tad of frustration.

But overall, great fun and boy its got to be in your games cupboard.

Bought this for my 3 year old nephew for xmas but my three o'clock everyone from my ten year old son to my 85 year old grandma had had a go!

A really fun, simple game that doesn't require any tricky construction and is easy to use.
