Portapuzzle Deluxe - Not as good as expected

I left plenty of hints every birthday and Christmas and finally received a Portapuzzle.
I am so disappointed with it I wished I had never asked for it!
It is not possible for 2 people to share the enjoyment of a jigsaw unless the Portapuzzle is completely folded back on itself. This not only risks the danger of breaking the zip, but could also scratch any surface it is placed upon.
My husband and I are addicted to"Wasgijs", and as anybody who does these knows, portions of the puzzle need to be made up without actually knowing where they fit. The problem is, there is no 'slidability' on the padded felt surfaces of either the main board or the sorting boards, so everything breaks up when you try and put it in position.

Having tried this rather expensive item, I think I will revert back to my old method - a recycled kitchen cupboard door and the cork side of table mats for sorting the pieces!

Perfect for Christmas

I've had this game for a few years now and we're still playing. Definately not a game that sits at the back of the cupboard!

Buy this game

This is a great game, very easy to play. You’re off and running within 5 mins. There’s a great feeling of satisfaction when you come up with an answer no-one else has thought of.

What I also like about this is you don’t have to sit around the table, you can play it anywhere.

I guess it could get a bit repetative after a while, as there are limited categories. That said, there are 144 of them, and 20 letters, so there’s only a 1 in 2880 chance of a repeat. You could even make up your own I guess!

For the price, it’s definitely worth it.

Wonderful - well-made pieces, an ingenious game, hours of fun! I would recommend this game very highly. Great fun for all the family!

Extremely good quality poker playing suface at a very good price! Will get plenty of usuage over the Christmas period in my household!!!

Good fun. Good team work. The bad gets to win sometimes

First of all being Ravensburger made you can be assured that this will be well made and well thought out. The board is a delight. As others have said one player is the burglar and the others work together to catch him.
The burglar is much of the time invisible. but between the detectives they need to work as a team to land on his square .
We have all enjoyed it .... and the game has a time limit of 24 rounds ie about 60-75 minutes.
I suspet that this is a game that will survive. Worth buying for children between the ages of 10-80!! Enjoy.

Good Value, nothing special. Chips pic is deceiving

The picture is deceiving, there are no $25 chips which is a bit awkward. You get $100 x 50, $50 x 50, $10 x 100, $5 x 150 and $1 x 150. The case is alright, although the chips do seem a bit grubby. They are brand new but somehow covered in a black dust (or at least mine were), quick rinse and they were fine. The cards were a bit manky but you can get some decent ones for a couple of quid anyways. All in all a good set worth every penny, and will look good at your next poker night.

Just Buy It!!!

This is absolutely brilliant and I highly recommend it. We have many games that we save for when friends come over, and this one has been a winner!! I have not tried the 2 player game, but for 4 and 5 of us, it was excellent fun, even when one player was under 12.

Don't worry if you don't think your imagination or creative juices aren't up to it...I didn't think mine were, but a round or two in, you'll really surprise yourself!!!

Don't buy, you can make it yourself in half an hour with a pen and some cardboard

This was a dissapointing buy! Like another review mentioned, its very cheap quality. It comes in this nice sized box, and you opend and its practically empty. You just have a 3 booklets (normal pieces of paper stapled togehter)with a bunch of 'clues' written all over. So if you read one, you can't help seeing the other clues with their answer as they are crammed into each page. There is only a pack of cards thats the most expensive thing in there, with letters, which you use to spell DIRTY. well, thats it... its such a worthless game..and rip off

Logic and fun

Two players face off in a complex game of guessing the location of each other's ships, hidden right on the other side of the vertical board.

The fun? Guessing correctly, sinking your opponent's ships, having search strategies pay off.

The education? Developing search strategies (random guessing is not optimal), guessing your opponent's ship placement strategy (if he/she had one), placing your own ships in a hard-to-guess pattern, working on spatial ability and visual imagination.

Durability? The set-up is more durable than most board games, as everything is plastic, and cardboard boards eventually wear at the edges and seams. Not a problem here.

One problem does exist: the game-boards fold to become boxes, but the little pegs find ways to leak out and end up on the floor. They're very good at hiding once they've escaped. I put mine in a plastic, sealable bag. This unwanted hide-and-seek problem cost the game one star under"fun" in this review, but the game itself gets 5 stars for fun-to-play.

Caution: The play-pegs are choking hazards for small children.

Still a favourite after a year

Others have described this game well. I would simply add that we have played this with both family and friends and it has proved a reliable hit that people have been keen to replay, and in at least one case, buy for themselves. We got it last Xmas and it is still probably our favourite game.
One good feature (among many) is that although you know how you are doing in terms of your objective, you cannot be sure exactly how the other players are faring. So you don't know until the final scoring who has won, which keeps interest going for all players throughout the game.
The game has got a good quality feel to it and is satisfying and enjoyable to play.

So much fun!

This game is great! You don't need to be drinking to enjoy it because the drinking bit doesn't come in to it much - only when you land on a team drink square (tequilla slammers are not recommended for this unless you want a bad head in the morning!).

It's a fab game of with a mixture of charades, pictionary, name that tune and articulate. Great fun!

Not for the delicate!

I've done 3 murder mystery parties in my time and they're always fun if everyone enters into the spirit!

This one has a good balance between having information to relay but it isn't directly scripted. It means that it works well for those with improv skills and without! The actualy storyline is ok - just the usual, really. The one thing you want to watch out for is lots of dodgy innuendo about sausages. Even my most outgoing guest was somewhat shocked! But then perhaps my friends are tame.

Back to the original catergories and colours for this Bitesize edition which made things a bit easier. Up to date info as well instead of 'what is the capital of East Germany?'. Would suit teenagers and above.
