Ah... but
I thought this for a while too - but it turns out you have to wind it fully, then counterwind it back, and then set the time.Works perfectly every time then.

Perfect design
These things are so simple to use it's unreal. Looks great in the kitchen too. I like them so much I now use them in the office to keep track of time - eg. set myself 1 hour to do a task then the timer rings to tell me when to stop.Just be sure to turn the timer to 60 mins first and then back down to the time you actually want - that makes sure there's enough torque in the timer spring to ring the bell.

Form over Function at first - Bring out the WD40!!
Delightful and beautifully designed. Unfortunately, Mr. Chin does not always ring on demand. The timer winds down but no sound is heard. Definitely a shortcoming for a kitchen timer. I cannot recommend Mr. Chin, lovely as he is.PS

Not very good.
I had to get a replacement straight away, the first one didn't work. The replacement no longer works and I only used it no more than 5 times. Don't buy.
