Good and Bad

I bought the cheapest scart connector i could find just because i wanted to connect my cheap dvd player to my cheap (and old) tv. I neglected to read the other reviews before hand, which isn't usually like me.

When i received the product it was straight out of the packet and into the back of the units. I tried to put the first one in with a little difficulty and realised about 3 or 4 pins were bent to the side. I bent them back into place which was quite easy and proceeded to plug them in. Although only one end had bent pins, both were a very snug fit and required almost forcing the connector into the socket.

Poor manufacturing aside, the picture and sound are better than i expected for such a cheap product. I won't be unplugging it very much at all, until i upgrade my tv at which point i'll most likely bin the scart system completely!

If you want something cheap and cheerful and you don't mind 'altering' it to fit then here's your product.

Worth the money

Simply put it works, and works very well. You notice the cable is different right out of the box; it feels mich heavier than normal scart cables (even ones 5x as long). It is also well crafted, and slots in nicely to all scart sockets (had trouble with some others before). The picture quality (if using freeview) is noticeably improved, clear, and the cable does not act as an aerial itself. this means that you don't have any random ghosting effects that cheaper cables have caused in the past.

It's a good, quality cable that I recommend buying because I have not had trouble with it.

Perfect for Sony Bravia 32" TV

This TV mount is a smaller version of PLB103M, which has excellent reviews.
I have a Sony Bravia 32" TV. After reading some PLB103M reviews claiming that PLB103M is too long for Sony, I have decided to buy this smaller version. And I am not disappointed.

I was a bit surprised how small it was when I received it. However once I touched the quality of this TV mount and saw 6 long screws for putting it on the wall. I know it is strong enough to hold 2 Sony TVs.

The package provides many screws. I would suggest you use the long 6mm screws for your Sony TV, instead of the 6mm short ones. It took me 30 minutes to read that 4 pages instruction very carefully and 30 minutes to put the TV mount and the TV on the wall. Perfect !!

Just bought this

Just bought this TV last week and was definitely not disappointed! Was on a budget of under £700 and decided to go with the Samsung over others, the inbuilt freeview is good and the TV is very easy to setup - plug and play.

Needed to tweak the picture settings to optimise viewing quality, but after this was done I hooked up the PS3 and enjoyed some excellent HD gaming.

Excellent purchase

This is a very good TV for the price. The picture quality is excellent and the sound (which others have complained about) is so much better than my old CRT I won't complain, however I haven't tried it with surround sound to compare. Linked my laptop to it with very good results. The only reason I haven't given it a 5 is the number of options for changing the settings for sound, picture etc is bewildering at first, and will take a lot of time and experimentation to see if the default settings can be improved. All in all, very pleased with the TV (apart from a delivery problem with Citylink).

Superb tiny media player

I've only this unit for 1 day, so this review should be read as initial impressions only.

The first thing that struck me about the WDTV is how tiny it is. It is small, sleek and shiny black plastic, with two reasonably bright white status lights at the front of the unit (power and USB access).

Setting the unit up is unbelievably simple - plug it in, plug in a USB hard drive loaded with media, and connect it to your tv (by HDMI or composite). It has optical out for those with AV recievers.

The menus are similar to the PS3's media browser. They are a bit sluggish and awkward but they get the job done. I recommend using the 'Video Folders' option to browse your media. I have a few hundred videos, all sorted into folders so this makes finding what I want easier.

This little unit played everything I've thrown at it, flawlessly. I've tried MP4's, Xvid, and 720p MKV's so far. It's also rumored to play ISOs and Video_TS files (albeit without menus).

Pros:
- Plug and Play setup
- Small footprint
- silent operation
- Very easy to use
- Plays almost anything

Cons
- Gets warm (not hot, but warm)
- No network facilities (not a con for me, but for some people it is)
- Menu is sluggish
- Will not play subtitles from VOB files (rumored to be fixed in the next firmware update)
- Does not power down attached hard drives when switched off (again rumored to be fixed soon)
- No menus for ripped dvds
- Apparently has difficulty with some 1080 MKV files. I can't confirm this as I have a 720p tv :)

All of these cons aren't really a disappointment for me. I wouldn't use the network facilities, and rarely play things with subtitles. All of my ripped dvds are mp4's or Xvids to save space so I don't need menus. As for the power down issue - i just eject the hard drive and switch both units off at the wall. I don't like having things on standby.

Tips -
- Mac users: make sure your harddrives are formatted as HFS but without Journaling. Also make sure they use the Apple Partition System rather than the newer GUID. Note the included software is windows only.

- If your MKV's have embedded subtitles, you'll need to rip them out and save them as their own SRT files. Name them the same as the MKV file and they'll play just fine.

In conclusion - this unit is perfect for many people who don't want the hassle of setting up networks to stream media. Some people want to do that, and for them this unit may not be ideal for their situation. I think this should be rated 4 1/2 stars, as I really can't find any critical flaws. Whether it becomes a 5 star product depends on how well Western Digital update the firmware and continue to support the device.

Good product,but delivery is a pain.

Firstly, before ordering this you should be aware of a couple of things; you have to sign for delivery, no other option is available, which is a complete pain in the neck, especially as they only deliver Monday to Friday 7am to 7pm.In my case this meant postponing delivery for a day and then having to wait in from 7am until 2:30 pm, and all for something that cost under 20 quid.

The second thing you need to know is that you'll require a 1/2" drill bit, which cost a fiver,so add that to the price.

If neither of those things are a problem then order with confidence,because this bracket is great.Very quick and easy to set up and we had our Toshiba 47Z3030db lcd hanging on the wall within half an hour.I have to say the tv looks so much better now that it's wall mounted.Recommended.

Works flawlessly with Sky HD along new cable

Using this neat and very well priced gizmo I can now (to the annoyance of my partner) change Sky HD channels from a different room. My full setup allowed for a new coax cable (CT100) to be run from the Sky HD box to the second TV which has proved flawless in operation. It is not routed through any other equipment and doesn't have to be plugged into the second TV aerial output (main picture and sound is through a seperate HD lead) - thus freeing this outlet up for the terrestial aerial input. You do have to follow the instruction as you must enable the output on the Sky box but in doing so product performed straight away.

An awsome tour de force by Panasonic.

The tv came the next day in a giant box that blocked the hallway.Remove it from the packing and carry carefully to lounge.Quite heavy! Plug in power and ariel and switch on. It sets itself up. This is a whole new entertainment experience. I watched it in disbelief at the extraordinary realism and couldn't tear myself away. Then I plugged in my Panasonic DVD recorder DMREZ28,using HDMI, selected zoom 2 on the picture option and I was at the pictures watching Jason Bourne. Even though I've seen it many times I watched it all the way through rivetted to the sofa. As a retired musician and music teacher the sound on full sythesised surround was superb.Selecting the 'over 30 cm from the wall' option boosts the bass.I chose this set because I didn't want a home cinema speaker set so as not to annoy next door. The clever idea is that the speakers are in the back and bounce off the wall behind. Simulating cinema sound without shaking the floor and causing next door to knock on the wall.
As a word of warning. You will find yourself watching programmes you have already seen, in wonder at what you missed.
You won't get much done because even the news looks great.
I was looking at a Samsung that was two hundred cheaper but you need a speaker set so it comes out the same. It is well worth the extra to have it all in one box. This is as near perfect as a TV set can get.

Sony shines again

I researched carefully before buying the Sony W4000 from Amazon. Several TV review websites gave this TV their blessing. My main criteria for buying was that the tv would provide quality images and sound at standard definiton level. So much hype about HD; yet perhaps 90 percent of broadcast television is in Standard Def. So do be realistic when choosing . Suffice to say the Sony is excellent in all respects; good colour and clean images, with above average soundstage. The remote is ergonomic and comfortable to use, onboard menu system is clever and straight forward to operate. I am assured also that it produces excellent images from HD sources. Essentially a great telly. Buy with confidence !

Totally frustrated... doesn't work well with Virginmedia

This is one of the most frustrating products I have ever had the misfortune to own. Brill in theory (and to be fair with some equipment it works fine)but it is a nightmare with my Virginmedia set top box (a scientific atlanta 4200). It fails to recognise the commands learnt from the virginmedia remote. The support provided by Logitech is prompt.... which would be great if their"solutions" actually worked. I'm trying one more time if not it will be going back as not fit for purpose and/or not of merchentable quality

Samsungs all the way , LG are good... but ive had samsung for years n they get better n better ... almost competing with reliablity as sony and panosonic ! No problems

I want to know really basic stuff like
HOW long is this under waranty for- is this NEW or a REFURBISHED product?

Great remote - especially for the money

I bought this on the review on another website and I certainly haven't been disappointed. It was really easy to set up. My DVD and satelite box are big name brands so that was just a matter of entering the remote codes - about 20s work. My TV, CD player and Amp are little-known brands so there were no codes. However, it was a couple of minutes work to set up all the functions using the learning feature.

I particularly like the fact that, in both satelite and DVD modes the volume control still operates the TV. There are only two very small niggles that caused me to drop one star. Firstly, the TV guide button is very small and tucked away in the bottom left-hand corner. On most satelite/Digital receiver remotes this is one of the main buttons so it seems strange to tuck it away there. Also, the front panel overlaps the edge very slightly on mine meaning it can sometimes rub into the palm of my hand as I hold it.

Other than that, the general build-quality of feel are excellent and, for the money, it really is amazing!

Works great with PS3 to Plasma TV

I have used this cable to connect my 60Gb PS3 with my Samsung 42" Plasma TV (model PS-42P3S). The TV is not HD ready, but due to the DVI connection supporting a better picture resolution, the picture quality is greatly improved. Highly recommended!

Great Value

Had the TV for 2 days now ,it was very easy to set up and tune in. Still waiting for Sky to install a HD box ,but the picture quality is very impressive even without it. The sound is good but not as good as on my old flat screen 36" Panasonic but that could be down to the size of the cabinate. But all in all I would go out and buy this model again now I've seen and watched it.

Excellent product - does what it says on the tin

I purchased these after extensive browsing of the reviews on this site. These work very well to bounce the remote signal from my controller into my HD recorder and my DVD player which are hidden away in a cupboard. Let's Automate Ltd were also very helpful when the initial product I received didn't work as expected, sending me an immediate replacement - which shows real faith in their product's abilities. Very happy.

wow, glad i went wuth samsung

Recieved this last week following it being a deal of the week, noticed it is still at a great price.
First impresions, fantastic, came straight of the box, no need to even put on the swivel stand, plugged all my bits in, sky, bluray player, turned in on , bingo. Stunning picture immediatley. I had been waiting for ages to get a Sony KDL-40W4000 but the price was still up near 800, I had been to my local electrical shop to have a look and fell for the Samsung, sorry but this is streets ahead style wise. even the remote that lights up beats the clumpy one from Sony.This is gorgeous rose black with a crystal edging .
Back to Amazon and I spot this one with higher spec at a fantastic price.
It does indeed have the 100hz which the sony does not, picture is outstanding and several people have thought we already had HD when we have not yet.Go to the Samsung website as for some reason Amazon have not really given much detail about this, it is the series 6.
Loads of options, like the usb port too for pictures etc, all in all very, very pleased.

I've had these cables for a while now. I bought them to Connect my (then)new LCD TV to a DVD and Home Cinema system. That was before I went HD.

The picture quality is excellent and is actually quite close to HDMI using digital TV signals such as Freeview. Therefore, they are a good investment. I still use mine for connecting non HDMI equipment.

I only have two criticisms. The cables are very thick and inflexible so they need a bit of space. The scart is not a tight fit so can work loose if disturbed. Otherwise an excellent purchase.
