Great value

We had to look in to a replacement for a 2 year old Hitachi 37LD6600 which gave up the ghost and would have cost around £500 to repair. After a lot of consideration of all options (including Samsung and Sony LCD's), we plumped for the 42PX80B.

We've had it a week and all I can say is that it was really worth the money! Obviously, still in the process of 'burning' the screen in, but picture quality in both normal and high definition is outstanding, particularly when it comes to dark and contrasty scenes where most LCD's won't compete. I can't wait until the ~200 hours of burn-in are up so that I can turn up the contrast and brightness! Sound quality from the set isn't bad, and certainly better than I expected from a flat panel, but it isn't too much of an issue as we're using a home cinema set-up.

Other things worth commenting on are the solid build quality (nice to see a metal back panel and really decent connection to the pedestal), connectivity and ease of use. Even the box that the set came in made the job of removing the unit easy (release a few clips and the bulk of the packaging slides off).

Overall, I would heartily recommend this TV as long as you take the usual precautions that you would with any plasma.

Pleasures of the Panasonic

Bought this TV recently, after ditching my old Sony, which was 14 years old. I wanted something not too expensive, HD ready and of good quality which will last at least 5 years.Read all the reviews and have bought this-what a great TV!!Colours ,contrast etc excellent. I cannot fault the sound. I am really pleased and would recommend to anyone, 37inches is a good screen size and the quality and value for money is unbeatable.I connected to a panasonic DVD recorder and the DVD images are superb.Just need more time to get use to all it can do, the instruction manual is packed with the extra features.

Wow this is the Biz

Panasonic TX-37LZD800 - 37" Widescreen Viera 1080P Full HD LCD TV - With Freeview. Arrived last thursday, A breeze to set up, then a bit of my tinkering with picture and sound levels. All i can say is WOW what a picture, also the sound is one of the best i have heard, i thought my 3 year old 32" JVC was good.

Also a major + is, Amazon were by far the cheapest, beating Curry`s by a mile.

If you are looking to buy a 37" TV, GET THIS ONE !!

Great picture, poor sound

I purchased the TH42PZ85B about a week ago, this review is based on my initial impressions.

First of all I am very impressed with the picture quality, both standard and high definition look good. The range of colour is also excellent. The set has built-in freeview, this is the first time I have watched freeview and I am also very impressed with the picture quality.

The remote control is well designed and the menu systems are fairly well laid out. The built-in freeview receiver means that you can look at the programme guide with the touch of a button. One issue that I have with the TV guide is that there is a large advert in the TV guide on the left of the screen. I am not sure whether this is related to panasonic sets only or if that is a characteristic of all freeview sets.

The reason that I have given this set only 3 out of 5 is the sound performance. When connected to a Sky High Definition box, I can watch both HD and SD channels. As mentioned the picture on HD channels is excellent, however, there are serious lip sync issues which are very irritating. Note this is only an issue on the HD channels. A search of the internet of lip sync issues for panasonic sets confirms this is an ongoing issue, so buyer beware!

Brilliant display for the price.

I originally bought a Samsung PS50Q97HDX but was so disappointed I sent it back. The Philips is in a different league and is a winner. I am only talking about picture quality here, sound is crap but I use theatre surround so not a problem, the remote has to be seen to believed, totally cheap nasty garbage. But the important point is the image quality and this far out ways any other misgivings. I was amazed at the difference between this display and the Samsung. The image is virtually artefact free, unlike the Samsung which was like watching a piece of cubist art! As I have hundreds of DVDs which I have no intention of replacing for Blue Ray, this Plasma fits the bill. It has progressive scan and 1080i signal, none of which the Samsung has. This all adds to the quality. I would highly recommend this display for the price. So turn the lights off, crank up the volume and experience the nearest thing to cinema, fantastic kit.

Superb TV. Outstanding HD picture, turn on the BBE ViVA HD3D Sound and enjoy the ride. Ordered on Weds 4:00pm, delivered 3:00pm Friday. Excellent service from Amazon and Pixmania. Set up is a doddle and tested with upscaled 'The Matrix' on scene 29. SD delivery is also good, Freeview depends on what is showing. Adverts tend to look good... only con is the AV input has to be input manually.

Suprised at how good it is

I bought this tv for my family as a present for christmas, and was suprised to find how good this tv is for the price.

I looked at it in the shops first to ensure that the quality is good, and its better than some of the much more expensive 42" plasmas made by other companies. Overall, the picture quality is excellent, especially with the new upscaling dvd player I also bought from amazon.

I would agree with the other reviews that the only down fall is the freeview, its not that bad, but I have seen better. This doesnt really affect us though as we have sky and rarely use the built in freeview.

Looks very good, has great picture, is HD ready and the sound is also very good. I would definatley reccomend this tv to others for its quality for price.

the best

I own the pdp508xd.. nearly same tv spec wise, excellent plasma and with 1080p/24hz engaged its unbelievable.. black level is better than my panasonic crt!! there expensive for a reason there the best. buy one!

Fantastic set, fantastic price

A step up from the 42PG3000 in price, it's worth every penny. Looks alone make it worth the slight difference - the panel and frame are all level with one sheet of glass on it, giving it a really nice slick look. The base looks more classy, not just cheap plastic. Sound quality is incredible, USB slot is handy for slide shows (jpegs). All in all, a fantastic TV with a 30,000:1 contrast ratio, unbeatable!

THINK before you buy

As with many of the other reviews initially I was absolutely delighted with the LG42PT85. Picture quality and features of TV for price was very impressive, and set up of TV to run with my PC was childs play.
The TV worked with no problems for first six weeks then I started to have screen lock up on channel change I contacted LG who intern had they're service contractors contact me.
It took more than a week for them to collect the TV and then after another four weeks and numerous phone calls to LG service department and in the end to LG's PR department ( I had to contact PR Dept LG have no customer complaints Dept ) I've finally been told that the TV is not a viable repair.
I fully understand that defects occur in high tech equipment but it is at times like these when you experience these problems you find out the true worth of the Quality and service behind the brand name, but sadly LG is the worst customer service department I've ever dealt with. LG is not a brand that I will be purchasing or recommending again in the future
