well good

this tv is really really good ,picture quality is awsome i have a 360 and it look amazing i also use it for my pc and that is cool as hell too ,all in all its amazing really really pleased with it.

great value for money

Have to say I wasnt expecting that much from this initially but Im very impressed so far. Even with a cheap indoor aerial I bought more than 10 years ago it works great and the freeview is really good. So easy to set-up and install (it does everytthing for you more to be honest) and it looks great with its glass stand. All in all definately the Tv for watching movies and sports. Philips get a thumbs up from me!

Great set

I have had the TV for about 3 weeks. It already feels like a member of the family! The picture quality is great. Sound quality is fine, though the bass does boom with some inputs.

My only real complaintis the menu lag. There is no shortcut for scrolling through the sources you plug into it - instead you will have to click the source button 6 times to get to the DVD player in the sixth slot etc. This gets tiresome really quickly.

The only other caution is that you'll find that once you upgrade from an old style CRT tube television to a hi-def LCD, you suddenly want to plug other HD stuff into it. It really brings out the flaws in an ordinary DVD, or even the Wii which looked better on a CRT.

This leads to a need for PS3 with Blu-Ray, a surround sound amp & speakers, and, crucially, good wiring. But then again, this is the curse of upgrading any of your kit!

Brilliant display for the price.

I originally bought a Samsung PS50Q97HDX but was so disappointed I sent it back. The Philips is in a different league and is a winner. I am only talking about picture quality here, sound is crap but I use theatre surround so not a problem, the remote has to be seen to believed, totally cheap nasty garbage. But the important point is the image quality and this far out ways any other misgivings. I was amazed at the difference between this display and the Samsung. The image is virtually artefact free, unlike the Samsung which was like watching a piece of cubist art! As I have hundreds of DVDs which I have no intention of replacing for Blue Ray, this Plasma fits the bill. It has progressive scan and 1080i signal, none of which the Samsung has. This all adds to the quality. I would highly recommend this display for the price. So turn the lights off, crank up the volume and experience the nearest thing to cinema, fantastic kit.

TH-50PZ800B UK Version NOT ---> THX <---

After reading a few online reviews and seeing online retailer's product descriptions it does seem the PZ800 is a very nice plasma indeed. But, the US version the TH(42-50)PZ800U is THX certified and the UK version the TH(42-50)PZ800B"isn't". What a lovely kick in the teeth from Panasonic. After phoning Panasonic UK's customer services they confirmed the 800B's are not THX certified, and was glibly informed THX isn't a UK standard, to which I added"you better start telling all those UK cinemas there needlessly spending thousands of pounds to be THX certified then". Yes sarcasm, but it had to be said. When I pushed the telephonist I asked,"so did Panasonic just not bother with THX for UK customers?", he replied"it doesn't look like it".

In my humble opinion the whole point of having a high-spec"huge" screen (try not to think of a freudian explanation) in your living room is the"home cinema experience"

So why wouldn't Panasonic"a maker of impressive plasmas" put the 800B's in for THX certification?.

Panasonics UK customer services informed me that the specification on the 800U & 800B are different. It does beg the questions,

How much difference is there?
Would the 800B not pass THX testing?
Or are Panasonic just saving money?

The main problem is there are a lot of online retailers who are mixing up the specs in the"Product descriptions" Including Amazon, there listing states"THX Certification on PZ800 and PZ850 series", true enough just not the 800B, the UK version.
If I had spent a whopping 2k on what I thought was a THX plasma, and then later found out it wasn't, I would be a lot more than cheesed off. Buyer Beware!

excellent value - arguably as good as it gets

I opted for the 20 inch as the 19 inch was in short supply. For around £200 this screen punches well above its weight. As commented previously the sound is a little intensive on the treble when used as a TV , a bit better when used as a monitor. Other than this (and its quite acceptable really) it is very hard to fault this monitor which seems to bridge the gap between Monitor and TV admirably well. In TV mode the picture is good when attached to a freeview box (did not try inbuilt tuner). On DVD input it really is excellent. Unable to try on an HD source but given that DVD is part way there it should be close to perfect. As a monitor it is very good (Bioshock in widescreen is awesome), I got this as a present for my son and will part with it reluctantly. A positive battalion of inputs on the back (only one scart but multi scart plugboxes cheap)). The screen surround is a nice dense shiny black that looks more expensive than it is. Overall a very good buy. a perfectionist might quibble at 5 stars due to the sound but a definite 5 on overall quality and value.

5 star value - 4 star performance - 4 star style

Bought this model at the start of May, replacing a 28" toshiba flat screen.

For the price, it's unbeatable, if you've had a end generation CRT toshiba before, then the menu is the same and the remote aswell - so an easier change over. Menu speed is good unlike Samsung lcd's which take forever to flick between channels.

The picture is good, dependent on what you have connected - I have an xbox360 connected with compnents, which makes the picture very dark indeed
(probably needs hdmi cable). Yet to try anything hdmi, but the freeview is brillaint.

The sound is good, but could do with surround sound (as they all do).

Very similar to the samsung range in apprearance, although this has a slightly more squared edge to it, but still nice.
Attracts dusts like nobodys business.

Doubt your'll find a better 37" top brand LCD for this price

I would love to write a review about the Toshiba TV BUT I HAVENT RECEIVED IT.I ordered on the 17th and payed extra to have it guaranteed delivery on the 19th. Delivery by CITY LINK.

It appears i am not the first person to be let down and will not be the last. I only ordered this set because it was guaranteed on the 19th.

Excellent Tv/Freeview/DVD for bedroom, study or kitchen

I purchased two of the above TV's for bedrooms in my house. Got an aerial engineer to connect to existing aerial. A lovely clear picture. Easy to operate the DVD. Easy to switch off and turn over channels.
It can be a little slow picking up a full signal at times but it comes through very clear when it does.
Sleek piano black colour. Came with an attachment to fix to bracket on wall as well as on a stand. Cloth to clean screen. Packaged well.
Amazon delievery as always excellent.

Great value and good quality lcd TV

Just bought one of these from Digital Direct. Set-up was quick, with search for analogue, digital and radio channels being taken care of automatically. The remote control is easy to use, and the EPG very comprehensive. Lovely picture and sound. I'm very pleased with this as it is such an improvement over a separate TV and Freeview box. The TV automatically adjusts picture ratio, so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy!

Very good value

I was thinking of getting a Bravia or Samsung, but went for the cheaper option and so far no problems!

At this price, a 42 inch FULL HD LCD TV makes this tv very worth the price. After some tweaking with the settings standard tv (Virgin Media) looks very good from about 8 feet away. PS3 with HDMI cable looks amazing! The TV itself looks nice, rounded edges and is shiny.


I had to set up the stand myself which took about 30 mins.NOTE: the stand for this model is SILVER, the 505 version is BLACK stand and looks better, but it doesn't really matter.

For this price, it is a great buy!
