I haven't stopped hugging it since it came through the front door!

We waited for some time for just the right flat screen TV and the wait was worth it for this one. Aside from changing the default colour settings, the only thing you need to do is take the TV out of the box and connect it. Set up was simple, quick and straightforward. Picture quality is excellent, sound quality from built in speakers is very good and we haven't felt the need yet to connect separate speakers. Definitely a top buy and well worth the price.

Very Disapointed

I bought this television on the grounds of reading the previous two reviews and above all samsungs reputation.
The build quality and looks are obviously not going to disapoint, however my personal opinion of the picture quality and sound through standard digital reception is well below my expectations.
I was running this tv through sky and the picture appeared muddy and response time was terrible, it also was an absolute nightmare getting the picture settings right (far too many optional/unnecessary tweaks).The sound was also very poor.That and a pixel blowing out after 5 weeks just about put the cherry on the cake for me.
I contacted amazon for a refund and there impeccable customer service took over and i got a swift refund.
I opted for an LG instead and couldn't believe the difference in picture and sound quality..my advice to anyone is if your gonna buy an LCD television go for an LG you won't be disapointed.IMVHO.

smashin' set

Very pleased with this set-sound is fine-32'' more than adequate for medium sized room and picture quality excellent.X-box 360 games have taken on a new life.Very happy to have made move from C.R.T screen-this set is much smarter whether on or off and very simple to set up.Remote control makes sense and tuning options all seem user friendly and intuitive.Thoroughly recommended.

is this any better than the competition?

I bought this tv for the kitchen, In my living room I have 37" version of this tv.Although its a samsung a so called top rated tv manufacturer I am not that impressed with the picture quality,my main tv is superb, but the 19" version is a bit ropey! I was banished to the kitchen to watch the football,in my opinion it is pretty dreadful watching live sport, if your into watching soaps etc the tv was ok but the colours wasn't good and there are too many shadows.the tv looks great but I am not yet convinced,i paid 40 quid extra for the samsung when the polaroid is probably just as good for your kitchen/bedrom etc. In my opinion I would but a big samsung but not a smaller one!

Disppointing

Firstly, as a previous reviewer said, this is a great looking TV. I checked it out in the flesh before I placed my order via Amazon and I was excited about it being delivered. Unfortunately, that is where the excitement ended.

Upon arrival I attached the tv effortlessly to the wall mount that I had purchased along with it. Fitting the wall mount was simple and effective and I was up and running in no time. Within seconds of turning it on however I noticed that there was a large luminous pair of"dead" pixels just to the left of the centre of the screen. I immediately packaged it back up, contacted Amazon, and ordered a replacement. A few days later the replacement arrived. I turned it on and...yep, the new set had a similar problem. But on this occasion the picture was only affected by one slightly less noticeable red"dead" pixel, again to the left of centre. Not only that but this set appeared to suffer from a dim humming type noise whenever the set was on. Extremely unhappy, I packaged this set up too and proceeded to cancel my order. I am in the process of returning this item too and am expecting a full refund.

In terms of other aspects of the product, I found the screen to be capable of displaying decent imagery and colour from head-on, but if you are slightly to the side, or even above or below, a direct line of sight view the images darken and become difficult to distinguish. The sound quality is also not class leading: I'd expect better from even a 19" TV.

In addition to the screen quality gripes I found the remote control to be poorly laid out and totally non-intuitive. The channel buttons are fine and of a nice size but the additional service buttons (such as those for selecting text/digital services, sound and picture modes) are too small and somewhat unresponsive.

OK, so I may have been the unfortunate recipient of tvs from a faulty batch but I suspect not. I also don't think I have been overly picky. With so many reliable sets on the market we have no responsibility to accept second best or devices that are not fully fit for purpose; especially when they are brand new. As anyone knows, faulty pixels are irritating at the worst of times, but on a tv as small as this they are very, very easy to spot, and detract from the overall quality of the viewing experience.

In summary, I was wholly disappointed by this set and am looking forward to receiving my Samsung replacement.

Sony KDL-40L4000 Mixed Feelings

Bought this model nearly 3 weeks ago, and love the styling, quality build and what sold it to me was the Bravia 2 engine and 33000:1 ratio, which is better than most more expensive top range models. Obviously Sony's outstanding reputation is speaks for itself.

Unfortunately I have been experiencing blurring pictures, white lines and not matter what I do trying to get a clear and sharp picture is becoming tasking.

Every day I have fiddled with the settings but always get pixelation or something when watching football or sports. I just cannot get a consistent picture, even with my Sky digibox linked up with a gold Ixos scart lead. I will now work through the Bravia handbook for help.

If anyone can recommend settings for a good picture on this model I would be ever in debt to them.

Maybe I have a duff model, or setting wrong I just don't know.

Don't be put off with this review, as I may be the only person currently having these issues.

The Best

Two of the best companys'. I bought a Sony & it has been fab. Colour, sound, pic quality, ease of set up, infact everything is so good.
Amazon give confidence because they care about customer service are fast and efficient. You will not be disappointed with Sony or Amazon.

Excellent value for money

This TV is excellent value for money, not stated in technical details but it comes with 30,000 contrast ratio and also the 100Hz motion plus, DNIe Pro and Wide Colour Enhancer 2. Been using it for PS3 gaming and started my Blu Ray collection with the Godfather box set. Would highly recommend purchasing this TV.

Great 19"

Like most samsungs fantastic picture, crystal clear on the digital tuner. 720p is all you need on a 19" 1080 would be wasted anyway. Only bad point about it, is it doesn't have an s-video input so connecting you laptop/ pc up doesn't do it justice unless you have a dvi/hdmi output. The sound like most samsungs isn't the best but on a small tv like this the difference isn't noticeable unless you put it in a really big room. I think one of the best 19" sets on the market.

Cracking LCD TV

I've had this TV for about 6 weeks and although I have connected it to an arial I primarily use it with a Humax PVR set top box. Its performance with both is excellent and it looks great. The best bit is when we connected it to an up-scaling DVD player via the HDMI lead, the quality of standard DVD's is brilliant.

When in use via freeview the menus load very quickly and are very straightforward to use. The set up is simple and take about an hour from opening the box to having a picture (I don't know about wall mounting though).

We did not want the TV to dominate our room and when the set is turned off it still looks smart and fairly unobtrusive.

All in all we are very pleased.

Superb

I too was a little wary about buying without any reviews but my last LG (RZ17LZ50) gave me 2 years hassle free use, and am only upgrading because its 17" so took the plunge and bought one.
Looks great, brilliant reception on freeview even with a portable ariel, EPG has a video preview window and is very easy to follow. Sound from the hidden speakers is far better than my last one. On the hole picture quality through the non HD freeview channels is good. Looked a little unnatural with a brightly coloured set on one chatshow but everything else was great.
Then I tried my xbox 360 set it to max resolution 1080p and can honestly say I was amazed at the picture quality. Colours look fantastic and warm and no lag whatsoever.
I cant say if this is better than a Sony, but I can say I wouldnt be at all surprised if it was.

Absolutely superb TV

Have just taken delivery of the TX32LZD85. Ordered through Amazon at 16:00 one day delivered at 09:25 the day after. Amazing!

The TV more then lives up to it's reputation in that the picture quality, even on non-HD Freeview and Sky is absolutely faultless. Initial set up, as other have stated, is dead easy (30 mins to get everything connected and for the TV to auto-tune). Setting individual parameters is also very easy. Having no previous experience of digital/HD TVs other than seeing them in retailers and being a bit dubious about the quality that such demo models display, we were a little bit wary of going digital. Our previous TV - an old analog Samsung, had a great picture but the Panansonic knocks spots off it. The depth of colour, the picture quality and the sound are all in a new dimension. Basically, if you were having any doubts about buying the Panasonic, don't have - just buy!

Great TV...but arrived ever so slightly damaged.

This TV is fantastic. Compared to others of the same spec, this TV is more than reasonable on price.
The picture quality is good and so is the sound. It has lots of functions that are easy to use. Watching film and sport is heaven.
It comes pc compatible, and there's even a usb drive, so you can view your pictures on this TV.
The size of this TV is more than sufficient. We have a huge lounge and a TV any bigger would be crazy!

On the downside...

We ordered this from Amazon and it arrived with one or two scratches and a poor finish in a wee section of the TV.
Not going to return it, as these are unnoticeable when watching. However, if those kind of things bother you, bear it in mind.

PS42A457P1DXXU - GREAT TV

I have just purchased the samsung PS42A457P1DXXU and what a great tv. This is the first plasma ive bought and I had a normal tv before. The picture is great,tinkered about with the settings and in the end settled on the original settings but changed it to the movie mode and WOW..... a clear picture for watching anything from emmerdale to england footy. It was the price that swayed me to buy this but i'm not at all dissapointed. Lovely looking tv, adjustable screen angle and massive screen. Would reccomend to anybody wishing to spend 500 quid on a tv.

HDTV HUNTERS...LOOK NO FURTHER!!!

If you are after a 32" HDTV for a low price, energy saving, superb quality picture, brilliant sound quality with a sleek design, then this is the TV for you. I bought this TV about 4 months ago now and I am still amazed with its results. I can still remember spending hours looking at different HDTV's and wondering which one to buy. But this IS the one. Not forgetting this will produce 1080p, which looks outstanding with Xbox 360 or PS3. Honestly, this is a perfectly designed LCD TV - made to excentuate which ever room you decide to put it into - believe me or not i have this TV in a room 9ft by 6ft and it still looks great. The only possible downside to this TV is the fact that if it is in an enclosed space it can heat the room up but hey, you wouldn't need a radiator!!

Panasonic TH-42PZ80B - 42" Widescreen Viera 1080P Full HD Plasma TV - With Freeview

I Bought this TV a week ago - It's Incredible

42" Plasma - Beats LCD Easily - Always easier to tell when you get it Home! - Remember - Some Major Eletrical retailers have HD Disks running permanently in Shop Display Mode

This TV Obviously wasn't hooked up to HD - to make it look better on display - as Picture Looked awful to be honest - shared through one connection with about another 20 other TV's I would imagine

BUT.....I Had done many weeks of research prior to purchase and saw this TV in many different stores - Specification beats all others hands down!!!

If you want 42" Plasma (Much better than LCD) - Worth the extra Money easily++ - This is the one to buy

Works ok with Sky & Sky+ but is not best picture by a Long way - Need Sky HD for that as Sky HD Box has an HDmi port whereas Sky & Sky+ Dont! - so you have to connect to Scart for these - NOT HDmi Cable - Only then do you notice the true difference!

PS3 Games and Blu Ray DVD Discs played through PS3 Are Amazing/Incredible with HDMI Cable!

I Dont want to knock this TV Down (I Can't!) - as all Tv's regardless of £500 LCD or £2000+ Top End Huge Plasma will suffer same problem regarding Sky Connection

I Really can't Fault this TV to be honest - Auto Setup etc - I Did Buy 3 Years Insurance (Never Done this Before) on any TV or Appliance - But a TV Repairman said to me a few months back - That these are reliable BUT....IF and When they Go wrong - He cant do anything with them - as New Technology and Electrical Diodes/resistors etc - He can't fix that!

But told me Plasma is best - Forget LCD - The 2 Top TV Manafacturers Produce Plasma - The rest Produce LCD as they are cheaper from the shelf!

Ive seen friends 40" plus LCD TV's - and thought OK - Nice - Really Nice

You Buy this and you will think - Jesus Christ - WOW!!!!!!

There really is No Comparison for Picture Quality to be honest

If anyone tells you different - then they have just spent £500 on a cheapo 42" LCD when for an Extra £250 you get something REALLY SPECIAL!

I bought this tv after having a couple of 32" sony crt's and then a decent (or so i thought lcd) but this absolutley wipes the floor with anything i have ever had! It has superb picture and sound with no blurriness and no ghosting whatsoever! Its better than any plasma i have seen on the market for the comparable price and would receommend it to anyone! it looks great too 5 stars thankyou!
