Review for Norton Antivirus 2007 (PC):
I would also like to complain about the large number of so called reviews that read suspiciously like adverts for anti-virus programs. Anyone who has used this product could not reasonably give it five stars. What proceedures does amazon have to prevent interested parties writing fake reviews?
Many of the five star reviewers seem entirely certain that 'norton protects against all viruses/spyware etc - how can they know that?
The basis of the service 'norton' provide amounts to extortion of money by threat/fear. They should be in prison.

Review for Norton Antivirus 2007 (PC):
This product is rubbish. - a con.
A agree with all the others who posted negative reviews - not only did it slow the computer to a standstill, performing scans constantly, but after un-installing it I found that it was still running a process in the background with I had to remove manually, along with a lot of other files the uninstall had failed to remove.I would also like to complain about the large number of so called reviews that read suspiciously like adverts for anti-virus programs. Review for BitDefender Antivirus 2008 (PC):
Disappointed
Bitdefender has a good reputation but unfortunately I have had several problems with this product. First, it doesn't seem to easily coexist with my 3rd party anti-spyware product which I have had to switch off. Secondly, I have also found it to be unstable and it crashed again today, which prompted this review. Thirdly, the interface sometimes doesn't seem to respond when I try to click on the buttons. I hope that other people have had a better experience but I am sorry that I switched from my previous antivirus product.31

An essential extra
This is an essential add-on to your normal internet security. It works on the basis that it challenges you when there is a potential threat. It seems to run in the background with minimal system overhead.32

Review for Panda Antivirus 2008 (3 User License) (PC):
Like most anti-virus programs some are bound to conflict with certain software or hardware configurations, but after about 7 years and 5 computers I've still not had that happen to me as yet.
It works quietly in the background, has a simple installation, a reasonably well designed user interface suited to basic and advanced users alike, gets daily virus updates uses very little in the way of computer resources, doesn't have any major impact on load times (booting up the computer does take slightly longer) it covers pretty much everything you could want from an antivirus. It also cleans infected files without you having to even think about it, the only time the user has to get involved (unless you want a more hands on approach) is if it has to quarantine a file that it can't manage to disinfect.
A good price, great software and well worth having, I've never had the need to contact technical support, so I can't comment on the previous reviewer's experience of their help.

The little Panda in the corner
I've been a Panda user for several years now, and after all that time it's still the antivirus I keep going back to.Like most anti-virus programs some are bound to conflict with certain software or hardware configurations, but after about 7 years and 5 computers I've still not had that happen to me as yet.

Review for Kaspersky Internet Security 6 (PC):
Excellent product
Have been using this for a few weeks now, having been a loyal user of norton. Was compromised a few weeks ago whilst using norton so I did a scan on my desktop pc, but found no viruses or trojans, so i downloaded the kaspersky trial software and it found 11 agent trojans, so i bought it the same day. Will never go back to Norton ever. Feel very safe with this product. As a bonus I could upgrade to version 7.0 for free.38
Review for Spyware Doctor with Anti Virus 2009:
Recently, I took out a subscription for Spyware Doctor . I had had a previous version of SD with Antivirus, but didn't want to pay for antivirus software I don't need/want, so I uninstalled the old version and bought a completely NEW subscription of SD (ONLY). I downloaded the software and ran the executable, following the instructions, but when I click on the 'Spyware Doctor' shortcut (or go through start>programs), I am told that I need to perform a Smart Update to download the malware removal databases (it doesn't open up the regular SD window). If I click on this it tries to go into a smart update and then tells me that my subscription has expired and I need to renew it! (It takes me to the web page to do so, of course.)
I have so far had SD for SEVEN days (for which I am paying, of course) but cannot use it, of course. I submitted a customer help request - literally seven days ago (so much for the 'we endeavour to reply within 24 hrs' message that comes back) - and have heard absolutely nothing. I am not a PC idiot, but am completely stumped by this problem and it seems that PC Tools are happy to snap up my cash, but then provide NOTHING in the way of support.
I have now e-mailed the support folks, but am not optimistic. I am truly frustrated and intend to resolve this and then go elsewhere for malware protection - I've been a loyal customer of PC Tools for some years, but am thoroughly cheesed off. I see on the WWW that they have been bought out by Symantec - I wonder if that has made the difference?

Buyer Beware!
SD is, in my opinion, a great product, but I have established (after many years of use) that their customer service is truly dreadful.Recently, I took out a subscription for Spyware Doctor . This is surely not the answer for protection on joint Mac/Windows running?
The issue of likely growing interest in viruses being written for attacks on Macs is an accident waiting to happen - as Mac User magazine (11th April 2008) recently wrote the fact pattern with growing use of Mac computers means that in their estimation 2008 will be the year the Mac hackers finally break through and recent experiments at the CanSecWest security conference demonstrated in an open competition between hackers how easy this is!The problem with this offering is that it is Mac OS specific and so a system covering the Windows"side" if that is your set up through using Boot Camp or more likely Parallels or a comparable system on the same computer is left open to viruses. For such joint users this product will be of minimal value I concluded when researching to buy such protection!
