Excellent package but remove all traces of Norton / Mcafee

I purchased Kapersky as my Norton subscription had expired and all the"experts" rate Kapersky versus the resource hungry Norton. The install process is easy but internet access went from fast pre Kapersky to dead slow / stop post Kapersky. I was on the point of binning it altogether until I found a post on the Kapersky support forum which detailed how to remove all traces of Norton Mcafee antivirus / Security packages from your system. This I have now done and my internet is once again fast with Kapersky knocking on the head a couple of"suspect" programs which Norton never picked up. In short if you are going to install this product make sure you purge all and I mean all traces of other vendors products.

WELL WORTH IT.

I too searched the net for anti-virus protection as McAfee was annoying me no end and cam across this, I was going to dismiss and but decided to search for reviews on google and the lowest it got was 4 out of 5 so I bought it, the interface is a little naff but it does the job to a T.

The little Panda in the corner

I've been a Panda user for several years now, and after all that time it's still the antivirus I keep going back to.

Like most anti-virus programs some are bound to conflict with certain software or hardware configurations, but after about 7 years and 5 computers I've still not had that happen to me as yet.

It works quietly in the background, has a simple installation, a reasonably well designed user interface suited to basic and advanced users alike, gets daily virus updates uses very little in the way of computer resources, doesn't have any major impact on load times (booting up the computer does take slightly longer) it covers pretty much everything you could want from an antivirus. It also cleans infected files without you having to even think about it, the only time the user has to get involved (unless you want a more hands on approach) is if it has to quarantine a file that it can't manage to disinfect.

A good price, great software and well worth having, I've never had the need to contact technical support, so I can't comment on the previous reviewer's experience of their help.

BEWARE - USE A TRIAL VERSION BEFORE BUYING.

I have used Kaspersky Internet Security V 6.0 for 18 months and have had no problems. Tried to renew my licence but Kaspersky will not renew V 6.0 and you have to upgrade to Internet Security V 7.0.

Being cautious (from a previous similar incident a couple of years ago with another AV provider) I downloaded a trial version of Kaspersky Anti Virus V 7.0 first. The problem is that it now seems to work by totally preventing you from accessing the web or your emails!!! Very effective but not much use and I can do equally as well by simply not logging on.

For example, whilst it will open a website - BBC for instance - if you try to open one of the sub menus - TV- the whole thing hangs. Tried to open Hotmail Live from Messenger and it just keeps on trying to connect. This happens on other websites I have tried - even Kaspersky's and there as is no support for trial versions so you cannot resolve it

I have not tried it with their Internet Security V 7.0 but as the programme is basically the same I presume the same problem exists.

Unfortunately I now have to look for an alternative solution - so Kaspersky have now lost a [once] happy customer.

Be Warned - McAfee ISS is better

I purchased this from Amazon, having previously purchased the McAfee Internet Security Suite (which I would rate as 5 stars based on my own experience), mainly because of the number of adverse reviews for McAfee ISS 2007. Wish I hadn't heeded these reviews and remained loyal to the McAfee ISS, as this software is not as good, slows my machine down much more and interferes with the functioning of other key software loading on start-up, requiring me to manage the start-up procedure manually rather than relying on the auto start-up. I also needed to contact the HP helpline as it identified files as PUPs which were part of my computer's basic software [thankfully HP were very helpful in resolving this problem]. I will not be updating this next time around, but will go back to the trusted McAfee ISS. I had Norton installed when I bought my PC and quickly removed it, as it was appallingly slow - I switched to McAfee which I believe is much better and have most confidence in. I also believe my start-up problems are not solely due to McAfee VirusScan Plus, but also to interference with the AOL Spyware Protection which my current IP insists I need. Hence, I have decided to stick with McAfee but change my IP in the next few months - too many software suppliers want to cash in and cover every aspect of internet security. I have found the best spyware protection to be Webroot SpySweeper which I have had for the last 3-4 years with no problems. McAfee ISS and Webroot SpySweeper are all you need and they work well together.

Not compatible with Vista Premium

I bought this to run on a new laptop as I'd used the earlier versions of Panda (titanium 2005) with the XP operating system and found them to do a good job. I specifically searched and bought what I thought was a Vista compatible product so was disappointed when a few seconds into the autoplay/installation an error message appeared saying"You are trying to install this product under an operating system that is not prepared". I'm sure it's great if it works on your system but with Vista premium you're best looking elsewhere or waiting until a real vista version is available.
