A fantastic idea - a 2-in-1 hand-held plus stand-up vacuum cleaner

We, like everyone else, own a big vacuum cleaner and also a small hand held one. Then we came across this fantastic 2-in-1 from Electrolux. It is basically a solid rechargeable hand-held unit that is nested in the side of a lightweight standup unit. So standing up, you can wiz around picking up dirt and crumbs with a very maneuverable carpet-cleaner-like head. Then you can detach the small hand-held unit to get at all those odd places. So-basically the stand-up bit is like a big accessory to the hand-held unit. The whole thing then just stands on a base to get re-charged. They claim 18 minutes autonomy, but we have never tested it because we use it for 5-10 minutes and then put it back on its recharging stand. The capacity is limited because it is fixed by the size of the hand-held unit, but it opens and cleans easy, and it has a good cloth filter inside that can be washed. It also has a so-called evacuation lid in the hand-held unit, but we never use it. I have seen them in a nice Cayenne colour and also in a kind of light green colour. The impression in the hand is that it is solid and well made. I can wholehearted recommend this Electrolux unit, it is solidly built and really is a perfect hybrid vacuum cleaner when you don't have, or don't want to get out and unfold, a big vacuum cleaner. We found our one in Spain, but it is not a common item on shop shelves. So buying on the Internet is a great idea, and it comes as 3-4 pieces in a box and takes about 2 minutes to put together.

Absolutely awful

One of the most disappointing products I have ever had the misfortune to buy. The hard floor setting does absolutely nothing. The dial on the base for changing settings for different floor types is just a piece of plastic that does nothing but spin around. I am simply gobsmacked that this made it into production. It's quite frankly appalling.

The best Vac I ever owned!

Just got this vac as my new Morphy Richards 73362 had to be returned due to a fault - it was terrble, very heavy and gave off an alarming amount of heat. This vax is like a dream, it's a bit noisy but its really lightweight, has all the tools conveniently located onboard and cleans really well. It also seems to blow out cold air when in use, which is an added bonus as most vac's get hot. Would recommend this to anyone, very sad to rave on about an electrical appliance but it's brilliant.

Very good vacuum

I have had this vac for years now and it is still great. It's not great for stairs, as the hose doesn't extend easily at all & the vac wants to follow you up/down the stairs, so that is only reason not got 5*'s.
I just wish vax did a good non upright one, as I find them easier to use.

Better than a Dyson

A brilliant idea - the lift off cylinder! Cleaning the stairs has never been easier. My only problem with it is the cylinder, which fills up very quickly (or maybe I have very dirty floors!!) and consequently has to be emptied on a regular basis. However, overall a good machine and much cheaper than a Dyson!

Dirt Devil Bagless Upright Cleaner 2000W

Recently purchased this model as I wanted one with a good suction and I am pleased with it. The style and colour are very modern and its easy to use. Its less noisy than my old one, which is definately a plus, the only downside at the moment is its heavier, so have to be careful taking it upstairs. Not tried changing filters yet but instructions look easy. Would recommend!

The Animal of all Cleaners

Since receiving the DC07 cleaner we have virtually eradicated all cat hairs from every area off the house. Our cat casts a lot! and I mean a lot, we thought our old vacuum cleaned quite well till we tried this dyson, it virtually pulls out all grit dust and hairs at a couple of sweeps, we find the attachments very easy to use and the animal turbo tool is superb. We would highly recommend this model to all.

A FEW YEARS BACK I SPENT A BRIEF TIME AS A VACUUM CLEANER SALESMAN. THE CLEANERS I SOLD WERE MADE BY VORWERK AND WITHOUT A DOUBT ARE THE BEST ON THE MARKET. HOWEVER THEY RETAIL AT OVER £450 WHICH IS MORE THAN MOST WILL PAY FOR A 'HOOVER.'

THE SEBO, IN MY OPINION, IS THE BEST CLEANER UNDER £400 AND IS HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE IT'S COMPETITION. IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR THE JOB:- GOOD SUCTION, AUTO-ADJUSTING ROLLER HEIGHT, EASY TO USE TOOLS AND A FILTER THAT EXPELS CLEANER AIR THAN IT TAKES IN.

TO FINISH, I WOULD SAY THAT EVEN IF YOU DON'T BUY A SEBO THINK LONG AN HARD BEFORE YOU FALL FOR DYSON'S GIMMICKS.

Light, powerful and flexible

We've used the same Sebo for more than eight years without a single problem. But we wanted something lighter and more powerful for a bigger house with lots of carpet, some lino, two kids and a cat.

Dysons are all heavy and we had concerns about reliability - I don't know of many that are still going strong after eight years of heavy use, anyway.

This new Sebo is light but really powerful. We bought the duster brush too, which is excellent at stripping dust and webs from venetian blinds, curtain pelmets, picture tops etc.

The two floor heads (one for carpet and one for hard floors) interchange easily. You can leave the heads off and just use the hose and body for the stairs, which makes light work of it. The height on the carpet head adjusts for optimum performance and the power can be varied, too.

The handle height is adjustable. It's really easy to steer and one side of the head sticks out like a hammerhead shark's eye, so you can whizz easily along under radiators.

Don't be put off by the fact that this vacuum has a bag - it has more than enough power to deal with the job in hand; power is what used to let vacuums down but Sebos are good in this department.

Finally, this Sebo comes in a choice of designs that look either groovy or just neat. That doesn't really matter, since most of the time it's tucked in a cupboard. But a Dyson is a pricey-yet-tacky, plasticised cross between C3P0 from Star Wars and a traffic cone. Yuk.

Can't belive the hype

I have had mine for a couple of years and hate using it. Every time I get it out I really want to give it a good kick and then get on here to tell you all about my frustrating experience. So it sucks hard but most cleaners do. And do you know what these things do have filters that need cleaning!!

This is a real chore to use. Considering it has awards for the design I can point out quite a few design flaws. It is heavy and very unfriendly in every aspect of it's function around the house.
If you have stairs forget it. If you don't hurt your back carrying it up and down stairs then you are sure to be disappointed by the extension hose for cleaning by hand. It is not long enough and as with a lot of cleaners it has the tendancy to want to spring back out of your hand. The attachments for the end of the hose don't fit properly and will often come off when you scrub the stairs. Also as with other cleaners the hose wants to pull the upright over. Taking the tube out and putting it back is also a very poor design and completely un-user friendly. It really makes your life hard work as you will often want to switch between upright and hand hose operation. In fact all of the removable parts fit poorly and sometimes you can vacuum away without realising the dust container has not sat back in place properly after emptying. When putting the hose back to clean in upright position you can often find you loose suction as you haven't slid the part over where the hose fitted to the extension.
All in all this is a real bind to use and I shall be staying away from Dyson in the future. I hope you find this useful and I can save you some real headaches.
