Not Happy

Bought this webcam for my laptop, as it was small. Disappointed - poor picture, doesn't handle low light well, as there is a lot of noise. Fits well onto screen. Would not recommend it.Try the Creative offering instead.

Bad! Bad! Bad!

The sound quality on this is insultingly bad. The outgoing sound is quiet, muffled, distorted, fuzzy and the mic picks up background sounds loudly. I've done everything the weak support documentation suggests (images show a different headset on the installed help) without improvement. The incoming sound is acceptable at best, it does the job but is not the 'Crystal Clear' Microsoft's documentation promises. Overall I am very disappointed with the quality of the ZX-6000.

Does the job for a good price, but not an iSight

This camera does the job at a keen price (£13.94 on Amazon 30Jan2007: spend another £1.02 on something else and get free delivery!)

It is low resolution (288 x 352), but what would you expect for the price which is at the"so cheap I'll try it" level. Very portable - you can easily put it in you laptop bag. Seems sensitive enough in low light conditions.
In some ways low res is an advantage, because it is less of a load on your internet connection (which in our case is 512k ADSL).

I use it with Skype on an iBook G4 - it works fine within its low res limiitation.

Before Skype video was available on a Mac, I tried it with Yahoo Messenger and iChatAV. It worked, but using this software required an extra piece of software: iChatUSBCam from ecamm.com, but that is only 5 dollars to download if you give the IceCam serial number. I don't think Skype needs this software (but I may be wrong!). Anyway, now Skype video is available for Mac, that is the cross-platform software of choice.

Why not 5 stars? The flexible neck is not quite long enough to easily reach the middle of the top of the screen on the iBook - 5 to 10 more cm would make a big difference. A lever on the focusing ring would be useful, so that the position is more obvious and to be able to focus without your own hand getting in the way. Of course higher resolution may be better (assuming the software and link can keep up).

Not good enough for its price

I bought this item as I have Windows vista and needed a webcam which was compatible. I chose this and was expecting it to be brilliant but was very disappointed. When I record a video the picture is not at all in time with my voice and it is no better than the webcam I had before which cost about £20. Very disappointed. For this price I would expect it to be high quality. The picture isn't even that great. It does have some good aspects- its flexible and can sit easily on your computer but I'm not impressed at all!

good value webcam for skype etc.

This is a simple to install and use good quality inexpensive webcam. Works very well on my PC with windows XP Home using Skype, MSN and Yahoo Messenger. I tried to get it to work on my Macintosh running 10.4 but even with all 3rd party drivers installed I could not get it to work (it does state on the packaging that it's for windows PC only). It's very compact and simply clips to a flat screen or fits into a little plastic stand supplied. I comes with software that allows you to alter the webcams image (colour balance, saturation, brightness etc. along with other fun effects; zooming and various graphic overlays). The clip on earphones with inbuilt mic are more than adequate for skyeping etc. All in all a good value webcam from HP.

Skype 5.2M web cam for Mac

Picture quality is reasonable. Camera cannot be locked in position on its mount so it turns and swivels too easily due to weight of the heavy cable on its back and you have to touch this to adjust the LED lighting level. Mount does not fit on an Apple display - you would need a tripod. Microphone does not work - at least with OS X Tiger.

Very good camera. Excelent resolution, nice speed. I'm very happy with my new camera. I was a bit scared about the fact that people on their reviews wrote that the camera didnt fit well. However in my compaq presario it fits absolutely well. If you are looking for good quality at a reasonable price dont hesitate.... Go for it!!!

For Microsoft nerds only

This camera only works with Microsoft PCs running Microsoft Internet Explorer. That is not just for setting it up but for viewing on the internet too.
Use a Mac or browse with Firefox or Opera and you cannot see the camera at all. Given how many web users do not use IE any more, that is a huge audience missing.
To claim it can be seen on the internet is, therefore, an exaggeration.
The Dlink technical help desk is pretty useless too.
Avoid buying this product. It does not do what it claims to do.
